ex-Nix: Where/what are they now?

That is an awful tragedy. About the worst thing ever.

I see the appeal is closed now but wondered if YF and the Club could send a message  of condolence and support. Its well warranted as he was part of the original nix line up and very well liked at the time. It would make a difference for him and his family to know that we were thinking about him. 

Phoenix posted it on their Facebook page, safe to say they sent their condolences.

Maceo Rigters. The striker scored four goals at the competition and was signed afterwards by Blackburn Rovers.

But Rigters never truly came good at Blackburn. He failed to score a single goal in his three year spell at the club, during which he spent time on loan at Willem II, Norwich City and Barnsley.

Upon his release from Blackburn he joined Australian side Gold Coast United, but was released in 2012 and his whereabouts now, was fairly unknown.

To be fair to him he simply had a good summer back in 2007 and at Blackburn he never looked up to the task.

Now a photo has emerged of him, courtesy of photojournalist Jeroen de Kock from Het Amsterdamsche Voetbal, in action at amateur level in Dutch football. It is also fair to say he is no longer in the best of shape.

The picture has been confirmed by Algemeen Dagblad as the former Blackburn flop in action for his current team, Amsterdam ZSGOWMS - who play in the eighth tier of Dutch football.

Just for the record, he wanted an obscene amount of money to come here.

Probably so he could buy enough KFC to get him up to the size he is now...

I remember being pretty gutted that he didn't sign for us.

To be fair no one would look good in that gold coast team.

I remember him scoring a goal vs Brisbane at Forsyth Barr Stadium in a 6-1 loss or something. He was playing up front with Billy Mehmet. I was so hopeful we would sign them both haha

If Terry wasn't short of cash at that point I'm sure we would have signed him.

I loved the excitement of all the preseason trialists under Ricki, it's even greater thinking back about them now.

For memory Gold Coast had just signed Alex Smith, then released him to sign Rigters.

Then we signed Alex.

Alex now captaining Far North Queensland Heat in the Queensland National Premier League.

Banging the goals in too apparently. Wiki has got him at 18 goals from 22 appearances.

I look forward to the day he turns out for the resurrected Furries.

Did score one good goal for us; think it was in a loss though. Was never quite sure if he was supposed to be a midfielder or striker.

Not a striker. Much like McGlinchey, just less so.

Scored a cracker with the outside of the boot against Victory in a 3-1 loss I think it was.

Signed at Gold Coast as a striker and had played striker prior to that.

Came to us and Ricki needed a midfielder.

Wasn't Sanchez a midfielder but Ricki needed a striker?

Top bloke Smithy. Vinnie Lia Lite on the park though.

Better tackler and passer than Lia, much more attacking.

Works hard, contributes well.

Will only do something by default cause the jets have nothing else.

That I can agree on. If we were looking at a Jason Hicks, Ridenton or Rufer, Smith is more ready than they are so in that respects, he is an upgrade. The only thing is that he offers less upside and like you say, definitely not worth an import slot.
