Or secretly trialling in Europe, and Jets end up getting a nice transfer fee without him playing a game for them aka Devlin.

I'm sure his being injured is a more likely scenario, but he did stand out in the All Stars verus Barca game.

Saw a comment by a jets fan that Piscopo was sitting in the stands. He only played 50% of games for us while he was here and missed out playing at the Olympics due to injuries.

Not entirely sure if he counts, but Raphael Lea'i, a former Nix academy player, is going to Turkey for a trial with Turkish Super League side Antalyaspor. Reportedly playing 1 match and 2 training sessions. Huge for a pacific island player to have an opportunity like that.

Definitely. The Super Lig has the likes of Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and of course Besiktas who all have impressive history in European competitions, if he does well this could help put more pacific island players on the map.

Congrats to him. He’s a talent for sure

From a selfish NZ point of view re U20 WC qualification, hopefully means he won’t be available for Solomons now at upcoming OFC U19 tourney in Tahiti!

As any U19 Kiwis in Europe likely won’t be available either

Did I read somewhere that he had a bad long term injury last season?  If that is the case, really good to see him back playing.  One of my favoured Nix memories

Yet some here claimed he wouldnt play at a decent level again. Like a few players over the years under rated by many.

Iirc a lot of the debate around A-Rod was whether he was worthy of using a visa slot on. He was clearly A-League level, you just want more out of your visa signings than what he provided. Another knock on him was his lack of goals, something that is still true to this day.

He is a regular starter at League One level now & is part of why I judge the A-League at around that level. Admittedly I haven't seen him play, so not sure if he is a stand out or just an average player at that level.

A-Rod was signed on potential, he was captain of his youth team and was seen as a star in the making. The team probably hoped they could sell him.

Didn't quite work out for us obviously, but you can't take away his goal on debut against west-ham.

He's a foundational player, one of the first players they signed, and was key to building a club culture and identity.

He's played 2/3rds of their seasons.

In a team that young legend status might be easier to come by, but it still exist.

And, for comparison, a lot of people would consider Nathan Burns a Phoenix legend, despite him only being with us for two seasons and only being in form  for one of them.

Western united have only played 78 regular season games in total and are three years old, you can't put the criteria of a club like crystal palace, who are roughly 50 times older and play a lot more games per year, on them.

Context is important.

Dura loves the tarmac out in them there Western Suburbs! I mean Western say silly things, but you gotta start somewhere. It’d be hard to claim he was an on field legend for them, but I think we’ve had a who qualifies as a legend of the Nix debate before.

Still a legend for me for pulling his kids out of school and traveling for a year. That’s the proper way to do midlife crisis! Dura’s a legend whoever tries to claim him. Pity about some of our recruitment/pathways at various points in his mid career, but that’s what it was then and also F the FFA of the time. Our challenge will be to maintain our culture post-Uffie, may that be after cups and titles.
