Fair enough but seemed to have a lot of golf clappers in A24. I carried chants as best I could and am proud of my newbie group of attendees that got right into it (and took their shirts off too

Beware criticising Aisle 24. My friends and I are there every match (and sometimes the day before the match**. As, Brian, the stadium guy said to us on Friday "Aisle 24? That's the fever zone for old men..."    CHEEK!!

I was in Aisle 24 people were standing up, we were people didn't care. Though 90% of people wouldn't question me.

Ailse 24 are pussies!  Aisle 23 FTW

I found Aisle 24  (this match) and 25 (Perth match) not too bad for vocal projections.  I do think that over the season 23 is a good balance between getting the buzz from FZ and being able to sit (mostly) with the kids.  (language is generally pretty civil).

(that said I might see about shifting over to Aisle 24 next season)

And I explained the "We're here to watch the football" to my group (it was one of the more muted chants - as was "where were you when we were sh*t)

It's a british chant from what I know. It's always been around for us, I remember an early post I made about shouting "who are ya?" to my cat.

Season 1 I recall us doing a "who are ya" to an opposition player being sent off, it went on for ages as he had to walk from the other side of the pitch to the tunnel and we kept it up the whole length of his journey. He looked destroyed. It was one of those moments that showed the YF as being something else. Can't remember the match or the player though.

i think griffiths did his hack down our end so it can't have been him that walked the length into a storm of who are yas?

sydney's Popovic getting a red was memorable - but i can't remember why apart from hating sydney (it might have been the first oppo red at the Ring ??)

Few Points

1. Great Game & atmosphere..Ifill is king.
2. Boy it was HOT!
3. No way was there any need for a Mexican Wave
4. "where were you when we were sh*t" ooohhh trying to be a touch cool.
5. Big Props to Tony P & John McKain who when my mate lent through their little private viewing box happily returned his high fives!
6. No water? Thats woeful & dangerous.

I must have admit to have been very annoyed by a load of people standing 2-3 deep in the Yellow Fever zone (in a single aisle). It really was ridiculous.

If you're here and reading- you're a shower of selfish self-absorbed c**ts. Next time, buy your tickets early. Don't see why the two girls to your left should have been squished down to one seat's space, and you did make made it pretty hard for the people behind you to see and/or hear anything.

I can't remember a match when that hasn't been the way. If people are in your seats you're more than welcome to ask them to leave, but in pretty much every game I've been to there has been a person infront and behind me. Creates a better atmosphere.

You are guilty of this from the Perth game Dan..
Thats why I moved up a row. That and because you fell on me when you celebrated a goal by standing on the seats.

Why is it, that no matter what, I somehow manage to hurt someone and/or myself in goal celebrations? I've fallen on you, accidentally grabbed James' tits and fallen thru a seat in celebration.

There were 3-4 of them a couple of rows behind us in aisle 22!

Don't get me wrong I welcome newbies and thought it was great to see so many people there but found it a wee bit hypocritical that they then started up the "where were you when we were sh*t?" chant....mmmm, and where were YOU eh lads?

The major one was at Topor-Stanley.  Griffiths got it too, but his red-card was from right in front of the zone, Topor-Stanley had to walk for ages and it kept getting louder and louder.  It was amazing.

Stand up for the Phoenix (the first one) was great, it got louder than I've ever heard it get in the ROF.  And what's this about that chant having a tune?  I've never been aware of one from all my games in Wellington, though I guess that reflects on you lot

Yeah.  It's a lot harder when the stadium, and in particularly the zone is packed.  We ended up with the normal core well spread out and a lot of people in the zone who don't know the words and some who weren't all that keen on getting involved.

It's the price you pay for fame.  Needs an elite fighting force in Sydney next week.

There is much angst about the same thing in Sydney last night as well.  We're a bit more 'meh' about it.

Happened during the final a few weeks before that as well. Atmosphere and chants were starting from other directions, not just the Yellow Fever Zone...

Good indication of a thriving football scene developing in Wellington.
I'd like to claim those 'Who are ya' chants, in the shade in aisle 5.

I'm a bit late but re: my comments on a vocal minority in Aisle 1/36 - I see someone hinted earlier that there was a group(s) in Aisle 1 encouraged to "who are ya?".

Was this correct? What is the story behind it? Was it a group of YF or a group of newbs?

If YF was behind this then it was bloody inspired because it was freaky (and awesome) every time something started from that end. I even turned to my friend (2nd time attender, 1st game Bahrain) and marvelled at how/who had orchestrated the group down the other end.

(Go West) Life is peaceful there
(Go West) In the open air
(Go West) Where the skies are blue
(Go West) This is what we're gonna do

(Stand Up) For the Phoenix
(Stand Up) For the Phoenix
(Stand Up) For the Phoenix
(Stand Up) For the Phoenix

Always extending the 'Phoen' to cover the missing syllables.  If my machine had sound I'd find a video of fans doing it somewhere, but it doesn't so look yourself.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Wow. I would never ever have guessed that.
I kind of just thought it was a tuneless mash of a chant.

The inability to sing this thing properly is a constant source of irritation to me. I mean, it's hardly opera is it?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Easy solution!

Get the PA to play "Go West" pre match or at HT, and when's it's playing  - start a "Stand up" in the YF zone

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

The biggest problem with this is that the chant starts the wrong way around - For the Phoenix, stand up. It's impossible to carry the Go West tune with that word configuration, ther's just too many syllables in the first line.

Eh?

Stand up, for the Phoenix
Stand up, for the Phoenix
Stand up, for the Phoenix
Stand up, for the Phoenix

Works beautifully. Just ask my collegues, who I've just treated to a rendition.

I know Jag, but Thommo, who has been starting it usually, goes the other way - For the Phoenix, Stand up, and it doesn't work because you can't cary the Go West tune that way.

In one of the earlier games Wilso and I started it the right way around and it was one of the few times it actually worked properly.

Ah, got ya.

Sorry, EG, I forgot about the Thommo factor. Just have to make sure to drown him out by singing it properly....

Or beat the correct version into him

should be in the chants thread - but the other one is "We're gonna win the League". I'm a "and now you better believe us" person, but others sing "I know you don't believe us"..

Who were the boys flying their scarves on the last leg back into Auckland that passed us in the Jag-Wagon yesterday? Certainly made my day after a long 8 hour slog back up the country!

And that fella who held the sign looking for the one who sold him dud tickets, he wasn't a happy chap and fair enough too.

Big ups to Jag for driving three strangers down on Sun and back on Mon! Epic effort mate

It didn't take long for the chants from the Fever Zone to be out of sync with the other end. I was in aisle five and chants sounded like those round things you sing in primary.
Re. Stand up. I'm something of a noob (two games) so I had no idea what the exact words were, but I was on my feet, clapping and yelling something.
We had some really good who are yas down our end, despite most people not getting up and pointing!
I think now that most people have lost their RoF virginity, we'll see heaps more at the games next year. I don't think I can keep driving down from Thames, but I plan to move to Wellington. What a wonderful city!
