Right, got my flights booked - looking for accommodation

Smithy - you mentioned you were looking to get some venue for accommodation identified for the Fever, any luck on that yet?

We are really struggling for chch accom. Nobody gives a shit about us because it's Cup and Show week (whatever the f**k that is)...

No plans at present Eejit, I'm focusing on drinking venues and entertainment.

Och well, got booked into the YMCA in Hereford Street for $100 for 2 nights

Funnily enough I booked the same place, get in Friday afternoon. Pre match pub looks good. Hopefully we actually get 3 points in New Zealand.

This isn't the Napier thread.

Anyone know of accommodation places that aren't booked out and aren't backpackers where I would have to share with 5 other people.

It is crying out for the club to organize a day trip with Air NZ, fly down in the morning and fly back afterwards.

I wonder how much that would cost to put on and then cost us to go? Be a great idea and buses from the airport to the game.

Accommodation does seem to be a major put off for people wanting to go down, it would be the best solution. Seems JetStar did a day trip for people to the All Blacks game in Dunners. Would be great if the club could at least look into the possibility.

Brekkie at the Back Bencher, fly down for pre-match drinks, watch the Nix win, fly home and then hit the town afterwards. Sounds like a plan that would fill a 'Flight of the Fever'.

I've managed to miss the accommodation bullet by crashing at a mates. Must keep my 100% record of attending games in the South Island!

Cheers Pete. I ended up booking at Southwark Apartments, seemed to be halfway between the Stadium and the pub, so was a perfect location for me.

Think you may have found the old AMI Stadium on Google Maps (Ex-"Lancaster Park"/ "Jade Stadium") in Philipstown/Woolston. Southwark Apartments are NOT halfway between the NEW AMI Stadium and the Cargo Bar (which are quite close together down Lincoln Road).

(From previous posts, I take it that the Cargo Bar 359 Lincoln Rd is the supporters' pub for the match?)

But no problem for you, because you're not too far from both stadium and pub:

Here is Southwark Apartments on Google Maps - to find the new AMI Stadium, just click at the top left and move left along Moorhouse Ave. till you get to the Park, then turn left down Lincoln Rd. clicking appropriately till you see the new AMI Stadium off Lincoln Rd (turn right down Whiteleigh Ave. & then left on Jack Hinton Drive). About 10 mins by taxi to the stadium for you - or if the weather's good and you want exercise, a thirty minute walk. There are also regular buses down Moorhouse Ave.

Thanks Pete, I did have the wrong one. Am I still pretty close to both the pub and the actual stadium? Haven't paid yet so can still move closer if I need to.

WARNING TO ALL NOT FAMILIAR WITH POST-EARTHQUAKE CHRISTCHURCH (some All Whites supporters from out of town made the same mistake last October for the Tahiti World cup qualifier):

Be careful with Google Maps as it will sometimes direct you to the OLD AMI Stadium which is due for demolition.

Here is the NEW AMI Stadium 95 Jack Hinton Drive, Addington (off Lincoln Rd - down Whiteleigh Ave or Twigger St);

https://maps.google.co.nz/maps?ie=UTF-8&q=AMI+Stadium+Christchurch&fb=1&gl=nz&hq=ami+stadium+christchurch&cid=0,0,2775898104927116494&ei=k6ptUv3ZDMKEjAL48oHgBQ&ved=0CK4BEPwSMA4

The supporter's venue, the Cargo Bar is down Lincoln Rd back towards Hagley Park and the city centre to the right of the map.

Ten minutes by taxi, 30 minutes walk...see the Google Map link in my earlier post above.

Permalink Permalink

Lots of match publicity on the stadium mangement company VBase's website, including a "march" from Cargo Bar to the stadium:

https://www.facebook.com/VBaseChCh

Looking forward to seeing you all from Yellow Fever - Supporters of the Wellington Phoenix FC

If you’re looking to make a day of it when the Phoenix are in town Saturday 9 November why not join the Yellow Fever down at Cargo and make the march with them to AMI Stadium!

Just how it worked out. Vbase have a good relationship with Cargo Bar so struck up a deal with them.
The Christchurch Group will be joining up with the Fever at Cargo Bar for the match and I'll be posting it all over the Christchurch Supporters Group FB page to make sure everyone knows to meet up at Cargo Bar on the day for all the festivities! Can't wait!

Yeah was mostly a timing thing. Tis what it tis. Cargo will be cranking.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Permalink Permalink

All good I'll be there!  Have seen billboards, ads on backs of buses, heard radio ads and they've had features in race week newspaper lift-outs so getting plenty of publicity.

Permalink Permalink

So. Because Chch has been difficult logistically (accommo etc) we aren't as centralised as we usually are. People are staying all over.

Can everyone help me out by: following the YF twitter for what we're doing, and by telling everyone they've ever met to come to Cargo Bar before AND after the game.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

ChCh should be Iffy's 100th game for the Nix. Hope people come out and cheer him on.

[Edit: It will also be Dura's 132nd game, beating Lochhead's record 131 games.]
