I didn't fork out a shit load of money to fly to CHCH for a weak team. Fred de Wanker strikes again. Perhaps Fred de Wanker would like to pay a full refund? I gather the players are happy to play. "They might get injured"? They might get run over by a bus too!

Most people were wanting Spoons in for Moss and Boxall in for Siggy after Round 1,  so the only real losses are Dura & Brockie. Guys travelling down from Nelson to see Brocks can feel aggrieved but I don't think we are as affected by it as previous seasons.

Not having Dura AND Siggie is the real problem I think.

Your angst is directed at the wrong person/parties. NZF are following protocol (for once) and are doing what they are entitled to do. You should be going after the FFA for not breaking for FIFA windows like everyone else. 2 week earlier KO would no longer make it the longest offseason in the world and for players with injuries, it's a free weekend.

Don't worry Jeff, they are in for a burst too. Anything to shit on NZ football it seems. Smells like someone wants to screw us over and the NZFA have fallen for it - again.

With the added feeling that comes from having paid out decent $s for me and the other half to travel down to ChCh my thinking on this went:

F*#k de Jong, what do you expect from a useless twat who thinks it's OK to charge players to represent their country.

Hang on, this is an extremely important game - getting on a plane for a 14 hour flight after playing a game isn't conducive to being in any sort of shape for an all important WC qualifier.

F*#k Dome, what do you expect from a useless twat who thinks it's OK to turn the Wellington Phoenix in to the Romany Phoenix and give away home advantage and points to sell an extra 500 tickets and a few shirts.

Calmer thoughts: The NZFA are well within their rights to demand the release of the ALL Whites and the importance of the game justifies the exercising of that right. This whole shambles could have been avoided if the Nix game was scheduled for the Friday night i.e. outside of the FIFA window.

This incident will also change the nature of the future relationship between the NZFA and the Nix - it will result in a more distant but professional relationship - that will be no bad thing.

Bottom line - Nix / FFA fucked up scheduling the game in the FIFA window when they should have scheduled it for the Friday.

Also worth remembering, iirc, clubs received US$100k for each player they had playing in the last WC so qualification could be worth around US$500k to the Nix.

You have hit on something there I think.

The Phoenix could have gone to the FFA and said 'ok so you won't break for the window, can we pick our game time then?' Had they played on the Friday, I think that would work

Friday night would have meant next to no travelling Fever would be at the game, and the Phoenix wouldn't be able to market that side of things anymore.

Also Fox Sports would've been very unlikely to approve that, as it would have meant that the game would be showed at about 2pm on Friday afternoon in Perth, which would hurt the TV ratings immensely.

surely this is not a surprise that 5 days out from a wcq you would not want your squad playing, surely the nix could have anticipated this. I feel the blame lies with the Nix management here, they have known the date of the play-off for some time, I don't think it is unreasonable what NZF are asking for.

Smeltzy on bench tonight for Perth. Commentator reckons he'll being starting next week but he'll be in the same boat as our All Whites.

I thought their was no obligation for a club to release a player for National duty/games outside the FIFA windows

WC Qualifier. You'd think there would be some rule there. 15-19 Nov is a FIFA window.

so why are we playing on the 20th - oh that's right some where in the world it's the 19th. And what date is the first leg again .

with due respect to your point, a Phoenix win with their AWs is more important than how many YF turn up

I think the point that Patrick is making is that the Yellow Fever coming to town is an advertising angle that is being used to promote the game and if the game was on a Friday and the Fever couldn't make it then that whole advertising campaign would be non-existent.
It all adds to the atmosphere, hype and success of the match.

I think this whole situation came about when the game got switched to the 13th, I think originally they had it for the 14th before Mexico was known as the opponent. I don't think you can really blame the FFA/A-league for scheduling the Phoenix to play on the weekend before the international break (yes they are still inept for playing through the break). I think players need to be released for internationals 5 days prior to and including game day. by having the game on the saturday there would have been 5 days if the first leg was on the thursday (1. Sunday, 2. Monday, 3. Tuesday, 4. Wednesday, 5. Thursday). If you were to blame someone you'd have to blame fifa for scheduling the window within 5 days of the preceding weekend, but then I don't really think they had a choice with the length of travel between the two legs.

gotta give kudos to NZF for picking up that they can stop the Nix All whites players from playing, so they're fresher. didn't think anyone there could put 2 and 2 together let alone figure out this technicality.

Yeah, good point actually.  I guess that the best chance for a win would be to play the game at Westpac. The Phoenix gave taken this game away from Wellington so are accepting that it'll be harder to win (extra travel etc), and are doing it for marketing and exposure reasons.

Their is also a rule the the away squad players have to be in the country the game is being  played x number of days before the game to be eligible to play.

Wonder if NZF will have the balls to tell West Ham, Ipswich, and Leicester that Reid, Smith and Wood can't play next weekend.

Regarding the actual Fifa Dates. the intercontinental dates are the 13th-14th and the 20th. then there is the separate window that all other countries fall under which is the 15th-19th. the international windows usually start on the friday, which is why the 5 day period usually isn't a problem.

So basically the Nix management f*cked up big time.
1. Was there any reason to have this home and away straight  after the Napier one?
2. Notwithstanding the time difference with Perth, could a Friday night game at Westpac (7:30 pm ko) have been feasible?
3. Marketing reasons will mean diddly squat if we lose with a weakened team.

No one is going to come out of this smelling nice. Fans though are the ones getting ripped off. We don't pay a lot of money in travel etc to see a weakened team because of a bureaucratic scap between Fred de Wanker & the Phoenix. I gather the Phoenix have said that those players involved will be in Auckland in time to catch the flight.

I hope Ricki isn't pushing for this. Plenty of time to get to Mexico for the game.

This whole business has put a sour note on what should be a trip to CHCH with everyone in high spirits, not in Fucked Off mode.

So, no All Whites for the game in Christchurch...

I'm absolutely FURIOUS!!!!

I've been looking forward to this game for a long time, got 15 mates to come along, and as I live in Christchurch this is one of the rare occasions I get to see the NIX live.

And now they're telling me it's all happening with an understrength squad!!??

Wonderful, looking forward to another dull draw or even worse another loss on "home soil..."

They seriously think they can promote an already struggling Phoenix team in another city, and now it's even without some of it's best players???

What a disappointment...
