I imagine a few ITM Cup teams  may be watching this experiment with great interest. Cool idea, Hutt Council have traditionally been pretty good at getting behind these type of things and it has reasonable public transport links. Parking will be an issue but I imagine they have a plan in place to solve. Will be interesting from an atmosphere persepctive, because while the ground will likely be pretty well enclosed I would guess you will lose a lot of it from it being open air.

Is there some reason why they are not using the basin for the cricket..or are they using the basin and the westpac?

Basin is a training venue.

I'm going to be selfish and say, dont move any of the first 7 games out of Wellington. I have taken annual leave for each of those games and got it but anymore than that and it gets nasty, especially in December with everyone else wanting Christmas off and December basically being a name out of the hat situation.

Would be nice if the Wellington Phoenix actually had a whole season in Wellington. See if we can increase the number of fans with consistently having games here or is that too logical thinking?

Capacity, and food and beverage facilities revenue opportunities.

It's the World Cup. They aim to sell more than the Basin can hold, for the big games at least, so the stadium makes sense.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Interesting that there is no mention of a game in hamilton. a sauce at the stadium there told me that they had a game booked in...

They were hoping to have a game in the 'tron but that was subject to stadium availability and sounds like the Chiefs had been given a home game the same weekend.

One big plus about going to the Hutt Rec is its a 'clean' stadium, so the club will be able to offset some of the costs of the temporary stands with the increased advertising options and food & beverage sales.

It'll be 9000, and a ticket to the game will be included in all the season passes.

Will they arrange the seating in the shape of an oval just to make us feel at home?? :)

Is this some sort of trial run for another shot at a purpose built stadium in the Hutt valley, at Hutt Rec this time? Following the shambles that was the Petone Rec proposal maybe the club have learnt some lessons on how to manage the public and media around the bid. And if these games draw big crowds and locals don't complain then the club is in a better position to lobby for a new stadium at Hutt Rec next financial year.

So these will obviously be day games...and and extra work to the pitch will be another cost.

Heard North Harbour will be hosting a game the day after a concert...

Fuck this stupid game

Great idea keeping the games in the Wellington region. i'm sure the novelty value will bring loads of Hutt Valley people to the games.

I hope they get someone who knows about football designing the stand layout. In the photo in the Doom post of the temporary AB's game at the Hutt Rec the stand on the bottom of the photo is at least 25 metres from the touchline. FFS what is it about NZ stadiums designers  that they don't seem to realise that its better to sit closer to the action.

Would love to see the financial breakdown of the whole operation. If it makes money then bet on it being repeated for part of each season.

I just realised, given the picture of the mocked-up ground on the Stuff website, that we might sell this out. And if it turns out to be a better atmosphere than the RoF...?!?

Only concern is if it is pissing down with rain.

Could make it unpleasant.

Otherwise the atmosphere will be fun, and the view to the pitch should be great too.

The surface at Hutt Rec is superb. For the Rugby Club Finals they played 3 games on the trot after a very wet week and the ground was bone dry.

The All Backs have also trained there for all of this week. It is also in a very attractive setting.

How many people from Kapiti will be able to get to these games?

We really need a road through transmission gully.

Grays Rd, Haywoods Hill, turn right, turn off at melling under pass, cross over at spagetti junction, round the round about, park up at the front of the Belle Vue. not a problem.

Need the Petone - Grenada link, but Hutt council prefers upgrading Haywards (Idiots)

You know it, I know it and most everyone else on here knows it. The Nimbys will be out in force should the way long over due road between Petone or Kelson to Whitby or Waitangarua ever get to planning stage.

I can't understand how they think that upgrading Haywards is the right answer...just a head scratcher...

I think they both need doing to be honest. Especially once transmission gully is finished, the Haywards is going to get a lot more traffic which its not presently able to handle.

Now there is 33 days to go?  FFS.

I am back in NZ in late Jan, early Feb so actually had a look at the fixtures for the first time - what a fucking mess.  Is this correct:

  • no game at all between 8th Jan and 1st Feb
  • no game in NZ between 8th Jan and 14th Feb

I realise that this subject has probably been done to death, there is a cricket world cup, etc, but that is a shambles. It is like a mid-summer break.

Sadly (for me) I will not get to a live game when back.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight
