I'm considering getting Hogg's name and number printed on the back of my Timbers replica kit. Anyone know of a way to get the official MLS kit font without having to send it back to the US?

Thank you, your holiness from taking time out of your busy schedule to comment on my humble post.

You really are pompous HN.

IMO opinion YF has become elitest. There is a small group at the top who give out an air of smug superiority. Its bad enough putting up with all the "in" jokes and references. Now with the posting, any one who does not toe "the party line" often gets slapped down in a condecending and patronising way. There is a sort of "well you wouldn't have posted that....if you knew what I know....because I'm on the inside...and I get special stuff from my mates Rickie, Domey and Greenie"

These forums used to be much more egalitarian...there used to be a wide range of very diverse opinions. The opinions varied from the wierd to the wonderful but at least everyone got their say. It was often thought provoking, very entertaining and often very humourous. It used to be fun....well it aint some much fun anymore.

No need to reply to this because I won't be reading it...I'm out of here. lots of my football mates have given up on the YF Forums....I'm joining them

So much of this is true though

What is?

There seems to be some idea there is a cabal of people supporting one opinion only.  All I have done here is point out what I believe are inaccuracies in what was posted.  I didn't get that checked by some forum illuminati that it met 'the message'.

I did nothing more than offer an opposing point of view.  My views are not worth more than anyone elses but there is a perception that because I help run this place I'm dictating my views and telling everyone else to believe them (ignoring the laughable allegations that I have a relationship or inside knowledge of anything to do with recruitment).  I don't think that when zinidane or James Deam post an opposite view to me it's a personal slur on me, nor do I assume straight away it's not a valid opinion.  Although it would appear I do not have the right to offer an opposing view myself.

I do notice that when I have a tantrum about recruiting the undercurrent cheer me on, but when I defend decisions made by the club I'm part of the old boys network.

I don't know if smug is the right word - but I have seen it many times where a new or younger user says something a little naive or opposite of other's opinions and they are made to feel very stupid for it.

Its a shame because it really deters people from having the same sort of propper discussions this forum should be for.

Thats just my opinion obviously

Thats completely different to what Zinidane was saying though. But I do take that point, though I also think thats very rare, I've only seen it happen a couple of times in 5 years - and in no way has such a thing happened more often than it used to when the forum first began.

Just my opinion anyway, it may or may not be shared by Ricki and the team.

It happened to me when I first started posting here, I posted a stupid opinion when the Adults as child tickets thing was going on and got justfiably ripped apart. However, I stuck around and am glad I did, and I didn't take it personally that someone disagreed with my opinion. I haven't seen it happen since.

Just looking at the situation at Portland for background on the Hogg signing and their new first-choice keeper Ricketts (Gleeson will have to bide his time). Just noticed former All White Gavin Wilkinson is now interim head coach till end of the season (as well as retaining his General Manager position) after the club sacked John Spencer, the  former Chelsea striker a month ago. They are last in the Western Conference with no hope of makng the play-offs.

Most fans seem to not be happy with Wilkinson and what they perceive as his empty promises of future success based on a philosophy of "I'm signing players now with an eye on future long-term success, even if we struggle short-term..." Hogg will be seen by supporters as part of this problem of signing unproven players who don't fit in. With a new coach next year, Hogg and Gleeson could be in for a rocky road...

Informative fans' discussion on Wilkinson (and a model of reasoned debate re: comments above on lack of tolerance of different points of view in Fever forums) from this excellent Portland fans' forum:

http://www.stumptownfooty.com/2012/8/10/3234283/gw-really-bad

Next, a point of view from the Portland equivalent of the Yellow Fever supporters, the Timbers Army, who seem to really have been involved in a long-time conflict with Gavin. He seems to have been hostile to them since his playing days. He has started an official supporters club in opposition to the Timbers Army in an attempt to freeze them out.

Phoenix supporters have it sweet- Wikinson has had fans banned from games for posting negative comments online or carrying anti-Wilkinson banners:

http://sliderulepass.net/why-we-hate-gavin/

Someone has posted that actually, it's common for US sports franchises to be hostile to organized supporters groups they don't control and usually discourage contact of players and staff with groups...

A fan's opinion of Wilkinson:

Papez107

Gavin’s record is speaking for its-self. Which is to say I don’t see him staying for long. I’m not seeing improvement in the young players or better consistency. I’m not seeing our newly acquired players vastly improving the team. I am however seeing the MLS improving and leaving the Timbers behind. Gavin isn’t keeping up with the pace of the league he is playing in. Leaving the personal politics aside the facts are not in his favor. We need a GM and a coach who want to compete on the world stage because the MLS will eventually have world class teams. I don’t think anyone here thinks Gavin is the man to get us there.

Keep an eye on this excellent site for Portland news and opinion:

I do think that there are less opinions on here than on the old forum but that's just cos there are less regular posters I think. And sure sometimes responses may seem smug or condescending but how much of that is the issue of debating through text - no tone, no body language, no facial expressions (except emoticons)? However, Zinidane's throwing the toys out of the cot seems like an extreme reaction to what are basically issues that any internet forum ends up with after a while.

apologies to Hogg for claiming he was the one who got donkey flicked. It is in fact Smith who should consider retiring.

I didnt even read Zidane's original post that must have been chopped up to little bits and disseminated by the sounds. I have to admit though, maybe it is my own insecurities on my lack of true football knowledge over my emotional love for NZ football but I do sometimes have this underlying "post- posting anxiety" in fear of the "Legends" ridiculing my comment.

If they make a negative comment I feel like a bad puppy dog who just peed on the carpet in which case one of the "Legends" rub my nose it in so I dont do it again.

If they don't leave any comment I feel like my owner is pleased enough with me and doesnt need to give me a pat but leaves me happy enough with my tail still wagging.

If they leave a positive comment I feel like the little puppy dog that just got a given a sausage off the bbq and afterwards they let me lick between their toes when they were sitting on the couch after a hard game of football.

Overall I actually put it down to the fact that I respect the knowledge of the "Legends" but sometimes doubt my own theories and need re-assuring. Of course when and if there ever is negative comments most people take it on the chin and move on. Other people's level of insecurities may go beyond reason.

****Disclaimer**** The theme in the above post is in no way an indication of my sexual fantasies or intended to be offensive towards puppy dogs. However, if this interests you in anyway please call me on 021 555 WOOF.

Hogg gets the number 4 jersey at the Timbers, and has been named in the extended squad for tomorrow's match against Toronto. I'm not sure if he will have visa clearance to be able to play though. Both teams are desperate for three points, Portland are bottom of the Western conference and Toronto are bottom of the Eastern conference. Kickoff is 2.30 NZT and should be on Watch and Bet.

Exciting draw, we stay bottom and we still love it. Betting now.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

This thread is basically how I feel about Hogg.

Good start, plenty of promise.

Some really dire patches.

A couple of completely fucking mental outbursts.

Currently treading water.

Will it go now go on to greater things? Hopefully. But probably even odds that it will slowly peter out into nothing.

Here are some statistics/facts for you:

90% of people who post opinions about Ian Hogg on here have not seen him play for Auckland and of those 90%, 100% call the Auckland fans the knitting circle.

93% of those who call the Auckland fans the knitting circle have no idea why and are simply following the other 7%.

100% of Auckland fans have no idea what the knitting circle is and think that the 86% of Feenicks fans who call them such are twats.

Zinidine is correct, however, it gives me great pleasure when I get a condecending repy to my posts and so I will continue to post.

Nobody knits in Spain. Knitted goods are 100% imported from Wellinggong, a small farming outpost in South Eastern Australia.
