Great stuff.

Question for News.

1. Most teams can't get solid A League quality player sin every position with the salary cap - there has to be a weak point somewhere.

2. Perth seem to have managed it...

AND

... 3. Perth are under scrutiny for potential salary cap breaches...

Care to make a non-politician comment on that?

The pod is back to it's full complement to reflect on the Phoenix spoiling the New Year's party in Adelaide, before being joined by Roar fan, Gilbert Albertson, to look ahead to Sunday's fixture.

Todays broadcast is loud and clear. Gotta be one of the more intelligent crew than many others I have heard. Not that I have listened to a lot. But too many spend more time bitching instead of analysing. New chant?

But we wouldn't have podcasts at all if the RBB hadn't invented them.

They didn't. Podcastcast have been around for years. There's  two Spurs guys that have been around for a long time.

Oh, okay. I stand corrected. Thanks.

I wonder what that Twitter account ThingsTheRBBInvented is on about then?

Oh, ummm, you don't think it's a piss take do you?

Have got David 'Thunder' Dome on the podcast this week. Recording tomorrow so post any questions to him here.

Permalink Permalink

Questions for Domey:

1. This 4 big year's signings, Bonevacia, WeeMac, Burns, Rodriguez are possibly the most successful intake in the club's history. What, if anything, was different about the process of deciding:

(a) who to chase; and

(b) how to secure their signatures

this year compared to previous years? Or did we just get supremely lucky this time?

2. If the Hutt Rec. games are successful will the club look at building a rectangular ground again?

3. This year's season memberships are a club record, which is fantastic. However we still have by far the smallest number of season ticket holders in the league. What are we doing to grow these numbers even further next year?

4. The current form, 2nd on the table, 4 points of first with the equal most goals and equal best defence, and 19 points from 21 possible points in the last seven games - this is dizzying stuff. Even the Aussie media are starting to talk the Nix up. It's a pleasant change. Is this helping the license renewal discussions with the FFA and AFC? Can you give us any kind of update on that process?

Will the crowd figure for the Eden Park game make you re-evaluate taking a game there every season? Any chance of a game in Hamilton next season?

When you see the crowd upswing and a correlation to performance, has that given you pause to work more on the onfield product and less banging on about the crowd sizes or lack of in the media?

Has the club considered offering season passes that include discounted train fares on game day?

Not a question but you could mention that the club website and communications are great this season.  I suspect that there is some individual brilliance and good thought processes going on.

Can the Phoenix have a word to Sky about their cov...... everything?

  • Commentators (Jesus please we need new commentators), There has to be a way to have a combination of GGW, Piney, or even give Ifilll a gig but please - enough of Dewhurst. Informed commentary may help more people tune into the game. Just even suggest that Sky canvas the market. ANYTHING! I'll even take Steve-O and Leggy doing a Waldorf and Statler schtick
  • Post game interviews with players on field. It may be cut and paste but let the fans hear the players. That's how you help to create 'sporting icons' that fans can latch onto. Football in NZ does not really have that like rugby and cricket do.
  • Perhaps some in-studio analysis. Devlin would gag for that gig.

Fan engagement and growing the product is the key and they can do so much better with that because Sky face it to the rest of NZ outside of fans at the stadium and don't do a good job of it.

Considering they rumoured to have paid $100k for the rights, Sky are making a dollar out of a dime.

Is this a product of them being "the only show in town"?

One game broadcast on TV a week for one commentator.

Will Krishna definitely not be an import next season, and how likely is the decrease to four import spots?

Will the Phoenix reserves have a fixed amount of first team players in next season's ASBP?

Will you please sign Ivan Franjic?

You know we belong together...

Can he stop banging on about the bullshark 10k requirement. A solid, consistent 8k is absolutely acceptable for the region. No doubt we want more but bitching about it and threatening for it to be taken away doesn't help with public sentiment to get behind a team that possibly won't exist in the near future (in their minds). Talk the club up at every opportunity and more people will want to be part of it.

Are there any discussions at all about strengthening the squad in the January window and is it something that is likely to happen?

If so what position/s would you look to fill and if not why aren't you chucking a cheeky bid at Franjic? Go on you know you want to.

Also can we find out what the clubs break even attendance point is and if it has changed? Wasn't it about 7.5-8k?

How do the clubs books look this year and do you think we can break even?

How financially viable are the Hutt Rec games and does the club stand to make a reasonable profit if they are sold out?
