yeah. lets rip the guy who travelled two hours each way to watch a Phoenix game, and then took time out to try report back on the game. He's a fan. Not a broadcaster.

Exactly!

I challenge anyone who is not a broadcaster to do an interview that long and not umm and ahhh, or repeat yourself or use terms like "if you know what I mean". I thought he was great, and big ups to him for having the balls to go on a podcast and give the best eye witness account many of us have had, knowing full well he was likely to have people take pot shots at him.

I enjoyed it.

And kudos to the pod for taking a punt on a fan account. That's the sort of grass roots engagement and ownership that makes a movement more than just a franchise with a shiny corporate front end. Brilliant stuff.

I actually think it was excellent to hear from someone who was at the ground.

I'd be tempted to see if we can have a reporter on the ground at every Nix game this season, adds a different view of the away games.

Thanks for getting him on, and bi ups for him doing it.

I think you might have missed the point (which is okay).

Yes we will see it in TV, but TV only shows one view of the game. People at the ground regularly have a different perspective to add. They can talk about the crowd, the ground, the atmosphere, the interaction with the opposition fans, things players did off camera like thanking the supporters etc. I think it would be great to get more of that sort of thing. Don't you?

Brandon has got it, yes we'll see it on TV, but there are things that TV doesn't do justice, adds a different viewpoint

Ha fair play lads. I'm not saying ya rip into him but letting him get away with Ry-denton goes against Fever principles! Good on the lad for helping out but a little bit of prep might've been worthwhile.

The thing I notice when at the ground is how little or much players do without the ball. E.g. While ADP was magic on the ball, and looked great on the TV, I was amazed watching him live to see how much of the game he spent off camera walking around doing nothing. Carlos very similar. Then compare that to someone like Riera who often busts his a** to shut down threatening situations by putting himself in the middle of it before the ball gets there, meaning that they might take another option and it would never show up on TV.

Not the be all and end all though, there is football intelligence of knowing when to bother - Brockie often busts a nut trying to put pressure on the keeper for naught, one day it will probably pay off and teach all the arm chair critics a lesson though.

Brockie busts a nut closing down the keeper because Ernie tells him to, and it is clearly about hurrying the keeper in general. Every time a keeper gives the ball away with a rushed kick it has worked, getting a goal from it is a possible lucky outcome, I have no idea why so many people think it is a blunt attempt to steal a goal.

What Lemon said... just because Brockie doesn't intercept the ball does not mean it hasn't worked... if the ball goes out, or is a rushed kick to a contest for possession as opposed to a pass to a defender/midfielder with time, then ti has worked...

Say the keeper misses his target because he's rushed, the ball falls to our midfield and immediately gets sent back to Brockie.

Brockie misses his run or is well off side because he's fucked from busting a nut a minute ago.

Hey, at least I'm not one of these people that say Brockie doesn't try and only pops up to score meaningless goals. He tries, it's just debatable about whether he tries when he should.

Please choose a different description in future.

He works hard, he does not give centre backs a pearl necklace afaik.

#InTheZone V133 is out at yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts.

The pod is back to review the Wellington Phoenix FC final preseason hit out against Canterbury United Dragons, reflect on Ben Sigumund's international career, and argue about the report into the All Whites' World Cup campaign released as part of New Zealand Football's Annual Report.

I loved the slightly cut, John Wayne-esque 'don't-take-no-shit-from-no-Indians' Smithy, particularly in the section re. the NZFootball Annual Report. Classic stuff.

#InTheZone 134 - "Fired Up" is out at www.yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts

The Hyundai A-League is upon us so the pod previews Wellington Phoenix FC's opening fixture at home, gets a Perth Glory perspective thanks to Neil Sherwin, and covers off all the other round one fixtures. With Leo Bertos back in the country for a visit, the pod also gets the good oil about life and football in India.

Leo is such a good dude.

I can't wait for our sport, which is still dominated by the '82 crowd, so start being influenced by the 2010 side.  Media, coaching, administration - the sooner the better.

It should have happened 10 years ago.  Decrepit, moronic media.

This point very much!! It is about time the media approached some of these players for there comments instead of the other team. This team did betetr, undefeated and I think even Steve Sumner would wish that was recognised and promoted more.

To be fair it would have been difficult for the media to have changed their focus onto the 2010 team 10 years ago.

#InTheZone V135 is out at yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts.

This week the pod reviews Wellington Phoenix FC opening round loss to Perth Glory, as they, and the crowd, failed to fire up as promised. Elsewhere the podders look ahead to this weekend's fixture by dialling in Josh Howe from the Central Coast, as well as covering off the latest Exodus Team Wellington news.

I really like the idea of taking the rights off sky for 180k a year, id donate the value of my sky subscription to see that happen.

I brought it up a few days ago in another thread - I reckon they could do a deal with TVNZ to play the nix games free to air, and stream the rest with all the pre-match shows.

The problem is production, but I can't imagine that production cost is outrageous anymore - you either get TVNZ to do it in exchange for free content, or you do it yourself

HD live production switches for say 10 cameras and a control panel will see you back maybe 10k US.

Cameras themselves for 4k distribution (not required, but why not) are about 3k US a pop for studio cameras

The various lenses would be 2k each maybe, with motor drivers.

Mikes for the pitch and Phoenix zone, 5k for five.

So your looking at setting up a complete production system for less than 100k. The above is all 4k HD professional fit for purpose gear, not web cams or SLR's or anything like that.

The issue would then be distributing the content, you'd have to talk to someone like Kordia to figure that out.

Other left field suggestion would be to contract the TAB to do it, they have those trucks that they drive around to film the various race meetings and are pretty much full mobile broadcast facilities.

If I had the dough I would seriously consider doing a premier league pass style thing with an online stream, do deals with everyone for free content. For a total outlay of say half a million you should be able to support it via adds or premium subscriptions for on demand content. If you streamed it you could also geo block IP addresses resolving from the Wellington region.
