Kosta was good- Marco has dominated defences on two or three occasions. He went through 3 Jets defenses on the weekend...Kosta simply didn't show the same that Marco has.

What do you want, a game by game comparison? I don't want to go this way because it's not fair on Marco to look at it in this way, I love Marco, thought he had something special about him the first time I saw him play against TWs a couple of years ago. I'm very happy Marco got his chance and even happier he's making the most of it.

But you tell me this - do you think the Phoenix would have been a poorer team if Kosta had played instead of the likes of Daniel and, let's say, Caceres during his time here?

Kosta doesn't run through 3 defenders now either, does that still mean he's not showing as much as Marco?

well this is a completely different argument to the one I was offering. And why arent you saying Ifill, Greenacre or Dadi rather than two fringies?

So now you're saying Kosta's a centre forward? Anyway, all those 3 were only here in Kosta's last season - Ifill was clearly superior last season, and star of the team. The other two don't really play in Kosta's position.

OK, take Leo instead of those other two (although Daniel had a lot of playing time while Kosta wasn't even on the radar, so hardly a fringie).el grapadura2010-12-20 23:48:22

Marco will prob dribble round the whole oppo team twice when he signs for the Raw next season

And get the ball to the goal-line after rounding the keeper the second time, do some free-style Greason-stylez and score while getting the number from Natalie Imbruglia.

well depends if Ricki wanted to structure his team around Kosta. And I would have taken Leo, Bertos and Iffy over him at the time.

I guess this is kind of the main point of contention - when there was no Ifill, and even when there was no Bertos (for example, late in season 1) did we really have great options that justifiably meant that Kosta shouldn't get much of a look-in? Because if he did, maybe, just maybe, he could have been doing a very similar thing for us as he's doing for the Roar now...el grapadura2010-12-21 00:03:04

Tell you what though, the way Fallon is playing at the mo, it would be sick to see him setting it up for Marco and Kosta in the AWs.

well at the tail of last season we did pretty well without him. Its hard to generalise even looking back as every game is different as to who we have fit, oppo, and whether the team/formation needs to change. I think Kosta was only just missing out on game time - but I dont think the stars ever aligned with those factors to give him more luck getting game time. And he never stood up so much as to make himself undroppable. Marco has got a sniff and taken his chance very well.

We had Elrich and Christie, Ferrante played on the right a lot in the 1st season. Do remember Kosta looking good against CCM in the rain right at the end of the 1st season.

Is this to do with the infamous t shirt debacle, Smithy?  Or the fact that he's a big donkey?

Well that's just it Jag - put the two together...and add in the fact that signing him would be a strong indicator of impending larry-longball-style football...and you have a perfect storm of ingredients that would push me over the edge.

I'd probably spend home games pre-match at the bencher, before walking home to watch the game, and then back to the pub.

I don't think we need to sign Fallon. I'm sure D-Mac can jump on people's backs and throw his elbows about as well as Fallon can

"It's not so much the money, it's where can he improve his football. At the moment he's doing quite well with the Phoenix but at the end of the day it's about where can he improve, that's the main thing.

I'd like to see Rojas stay another year, cement his place on the team sheet. Help us win the A-League, then consider his options.

I think Kosta was lucky with his move to Brisbane and the style of football they are playing suiting his natural speed.

But not all moves are always so lucky... the club-hopping of current All Whites in the UK shows that not all that smells are roses.

yeah another couple of years would be good for everyone. think he'd be more suited to an Oar/ Leckie type transfer if he does get that good. Fingers crossed!

Would be great if a dutch team came in and signed both Marco and Kosta together as they did for Oar/Sarota/Zullo.

Or even give Ipswich a ring and get Tommy onto it haha

Him going to the Roar would be a dumb move. His game is built on running with the ball at the feet. The Roars game is built very much on pass/move in the left or right side triangle. His game style would not be suited in that system and he would be wasted there, plus the Roar track back as a team, Rojas does not.

I just went and had a hair cut and when I walked in people were talking about "that kid Rojas" and how exciting he was to watch.

I then went an bought some strawberries from New World Metro on Willis and three people in the line in front of me were saying that "they got goosebumps everytime he got the ball".

And they were talking about the Nix in the supermarket.

Erm, it's English - if you can't understand it, not my fault.

What I'm basing this on is the fact that Kosta has always been a good player - here or at Brisbane. The difference? He has more appearances for Brisbane in one season that he's had in 3 years with the Phoenix. How many goals did he have in his first 10 games for the Roar? He was given continuity, and the club showed faith in him and allowed him to build confidence. Obviously Ange's style of play helps him, but do people really believe Kosta couldn't have done this for the Phoenix? Do people honestly believe that Kosta went from a guy who shouldn't start for the Phoenix to one of the key players and goalscorers for Brisbane in just a short few months, just because of Ange? You really believe this?
I do

The Phoenix game has been by and large been built on the cross in from the flanks to a striker to score. We rarely come down through pinball alley and strike direct on. Why Kosta never worked or would never have worked is because he was played centrally and was also 5 nothing up against 6 ft guys. Is he having to win aerial balls for the Roar? Nope. However thats how he was and I suspect would have been used here had he stayed.

So no, he was not going to succeed in our game style and the best thing he ever did was move to a team that played him in the right place and the right style for him. You can say what you like about it but its all there on the replay.
