Hey question for the statisticians out there... Is this the highest scoring round in A-league history? Must be close something like 27 goals this weekend!

sadly for us not all teams win at home and get nothing away from home - that and the fact that your table above only gives heart one of their two home wins means we need a new theory!

i reckon we can do it and a point or win at Sydney might be the key for us

Yes. if we win all our remaining matches then we'll probably be sweet.

Its great the way the playoff system works......it keeps the interest in the comp going right to the seasons end. 8 teams are still in the runoff to make top 6.

I still think we will need a point on the road to qualify. There are too many weird results in the League to say two wins and 6 points in the last 5 games will be enough for us.

Goal difference could also be important.....need to keep close scores in the Roar and Adelaide games. In reality the game against the Jets is a 6 pointer....its our cup final!!!!

Tigers.  My theory wasnt that all teams win at home. It was that we win at home and the rest is based on expected results. I dont expect Hearts to beat Mariners in Melbourne.

At the end of the day we are all hoping for the same result and I would gladly accept points away.

Still, the theory is there for you to prove me wrong.

Pretty sure the A-league website had a table predictor last year where you put in your predicted results.  Doesn't seem to be up this year. 2ndBest2011-01-24 12:09:09

ok - i'll sign up to your theory (primarily because I like the outcome!)

and because thinking too deeply about it all just makes me way too anxious

The jets game is definitely our cup final, and we should almost try market it that way. We sold out the stadium last year against them, so lets try bump up that crowd.

Absolute MUST WIN on Sunday since we've just demonstrated we probably won't get any more points away from home this season.

Why?

Because when we play well away, we lose, and when we play bad away, we also lose.

Based on how many points we've picked up away all season, it's hardly 'negative' to say "we probably won't get any more points away from home this season". I would've thought it was more along the lines of realism, but whatever.

What I am saying though is that we've had a few 'encouraging performances' away from home at times this season. However, it's never translated into future points, and the majority of times we've done ok, we've still lost.

Whatever the opposite of clinical finishing is, that's what we do away from home!

Still reckon 42 points and positive gd by the end, especially with Fury last up. Might even sneak 5th with that...

The baton passes to you for predictions! I had a really good run with mine until Pav's first game; there he stood five metres  in front of an open goal with the ball at his feet, gaped like a fish for a few seconds and then shot wide. This game, Pav played and......it's a long list. Is Ward ever going to speak to him again for his lack of passing? When he plays, I am not able to predict. He's obviously good with his hands- maybe he should switch to Aussie Rules?

..Yeah...with a little Adelaide and Sydney for good measure as well, and where a point or two could now be crucial. Could be close. Is very exciting climax to season.

not worried about them, adelaide and Sudney away are the issues, we need at least 2 points from those games and a win against the fury to make top 6

The evidence is overwhelming to support your statement,Stevo.
But, (in my true "glass-half-full" style), I'd like to make an important distinction about the Adelaide and Sydney games away.

Whereas EVERY Nix away game up to this point has been an opportunity to win ..sadly missed, except for the Perth game...the consequences have been something like..
"Oh well, we are still there or there abouts."
Now, with the Adelaide game and even more with Sydney the proposition will be crystal clear to every squad member: Get the result or we are out.Simple.
There will be even more intense focus as results around us affect the final outcome.

Despite that apparently overwhelming past record for away games Adelaide and Sydney represent a unique opportunity to defy the pundits, naysayers and experts and lay claim to finals football.
I'll bet the coaching staff are painting that very picture in technicolour right now.Good luck.

Gold Coast (H), Newcastle (H) & Adelaide (A). No easy points there.

The two Melbin teams have less games in hand too - 3 games vs 4 for Nix and 5 for Jets.

Neither of the Melbin teams has a particularly easy run in the last 3 games, but Jets could/will trump us for 6th if we don't keep getting points.
