Let's do what we can - win all three games - finish on 29

Bling will be tough - they are in form - but we are at home and are playing very nicely ourselves
Melbourne could be totally dead and whilst they'll play hard, it might not be good enough!
Hopefully CCM have a top-2 (or top spot) sealed by then, they might play their second unit?

Newcastle are on 25. Adelaide are on 23. Nix have 20.
R19 - We have to win, both teams play each other and draw....Planes 26, Adelaide 24, Nix 23
R20 - Let's just say we win, Jets are away at CCM, Adelaide are away at Perth, I could see favourable results for us...let's say Jets lose and Adelaide draw...Planes 26, Nix 26, Adelaide 25
R21 - Jets host Glory but lost to them last game...they should win that one...Planes 29
As long as we win (very tough), we will be ahead of Adelaide, even if they win.

Most likely scenario: Jets go D-L-W and we go W-W-W
We overturn a 6-goal difference in the process...still pretty tough
If we had won 3-1, it would only have been a 4-goal difference

Adelaide go D-D-W or D-L-W but if they don't win twice and we win all three, we will be ahead anyway

Still needs plenty to go our way, but as long as we keep playing some good football, I'll be happy

Makes you think about all those "what ifs", doesn't it. The last minute blunders, the coughed up points. Just another three and we'd still be in the mix.

Never mind. Learning from mistakes - that's the secret for next season.

Penalty conceded against Sydney at home - result 1-1 - should have been 1-0 - two points dropped
Brownlie hits post in final seconds vs Melbourne in opening game - result 2-2 - could have been 3-2 - two points dropped
Defensive mix-up at the end of CCM game at home - result 2-1 to them - should have been 1-1 - one point dropped
Vaughan heads wide against 10-man Adelaide which would have made it 2-1; instead they won 2-1 - three points dropped

That's eight points right there....the Phoenix would be third...

Funny old game.......

Also, the points we get are points they DON'T get.

JUST FOR FUN, if all these results went our way:
CCM 30, QLD 30, SYD 27, NEW 25, ADL 23, WEL 20, MEL 17, PER 16
becomes
QLD 30, WEL 28, CCM 28, SYD 26, NEW 25, ADL 20, MEL 16, PER 16

I can even go on:
R3 against the Jets we dominated but still lost with that fluke goal
R17 against the Roar where as someone mentioned, Vaughan missed a 1 on 1

I think Newcastle are going to bottle it. Unfortunately I don't think Adelaide will. I predict the Top 4 will be

1 Queensland
2 Central Coast
3 Sydney
4 Adelaide

It will have still been a good season from the Phoenix, especially if we can pick up another 4-6 points.

all those "what ifs" remind me of...
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
If turnips were watches, I would wear one by my side.
    And if "ifs" and "ands"
    Were pots and pans,
There'd be no work for tinkers!

...OK I'll shut up now....

But Adelaide have been absolutely awful the last month and with their injuries they haven't got a lot to change up. For us to get 12 points from 12 would be absolutely unprecedented in this league

Correct - no-one has won four straight games this season, although CCM won 4 and drew 1 of their first five matches and Adelaide did the same between rounds 6 and 10.

I have only seen about half of Adelaides games but to me they look like one of the best 4 teams in the competition. I don't think that Newcastle are. I just feel like Newcastle have had a bit more luck comparitively so far this season and they are only a couple of points in front. Momentum has now started to go against them and they will be under huge pressure. It's just a feeling though, almost anything could happen.

If you watched Adelaide in the first half of the season then that is definitely true! They seem to have gone off the boil a little and with the precise game they play when they are off they don't seem to be able to grind out the results. Newcastle have won a lot of tight ones, maybe a fair call that the tide is turning. They are overly reliant on Griffiths but he's been great so what can you say?

You are probably right about Adelaide. I didn't realise they have so many players out...

"However Adelaide continues to be struck down by misfortune with Kristian Sarkies expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season after being admitted to hospital with a blod clot. Sarkies joins Valkanis, Burns, Agostino, Spagnuolo, Beltrame and Ontong on the injury list.

Adelaide will be minus defenders Cassio and Cornthwaite who are suspended leaving Adelaide with a threadbare squad."

Hopefully Adelaide and Newcastle draw or Adelaide win.

Crazy old weekend in the A-League - 21 goals in 4 matches, wins for all the away teams, only Adelaide and Perth stay where they were on the table before the weekend...

haha, remember when the season started and everyone was complaining about the lack of goals making the A-League boring? Hmmm. We're up against SFC, Melbourne up against QLD... the fever boys that are going across to Ye Olde Melbourne Town could see quite a fierce game depending on the results next round.

yep, 4 away wins -  a bit strange

at the start of the season it seemed all draws for a while apart from CCM and whoever they beat

and as someone said the Mariners defence (and coach!) must be wondering what's happened to them

Yea right!  CCM are obviously part of the anti-Phoenix conspiracy this season Tigers!

So are Qld for letting Melbourne win at Suncorp last night!

So are Newcastle for beating Adelaide!

A win against Melbourne will see us secure 7th! A 4 - 0 win gives us 6th. can't see us gaining 5th though. I'd be happy with a solid 6/7 finish, been plenty of positives this year!

Actually, a 2-goal victory over Melbourne will move us into 6th...

Without wanting to appear negative I'd say we'll end the weekend with the wooden spoon.

Perth should do Adelaide at home (please prove me wrong).

After three successive home deats, I can't see CCM giving us much of a sniff unless they bottle it again.  At least Perth have to go to Newcastle I think.  Come on Adelaide!

We are in serious danger of ending up with the wooden spoon, especially with that goal difference.    A huge game next week, CCM will be desperate for a win.
Adelaide have been crap lately. Perth must fancy their chances.

You got that right. That we exist is one thing, but to finish 7th would be highher than any other nz based team has finished.
