When was the last time the Kniggits were within 11 Points of the top after 20 rounds?

Is this going to be our biggest game of the year?
CCM have been shiite in their last three games...we have'nt been much better. Can we get at least a point and hope that Newcastle roll Perth.

Funny thing is that the Phoenix are generally well thought of in OZ, even if we finish last the Aussies won't give us too much stick.

In NZ though there are heaps of people(especially in the press) who will dump on us big time if we come last....I can see the headlines now "Phoenix no better than the Knights"...
That would be grossly UNFAIR

in my opinion Perth cannot beat the Jets when hard news favorite player is playing as Perth's keeper wont be able to handle his set pieces etc.

Re Dom Post today.  Ricki is putting it down to a bad day at the office. "One thing we've got to be careful of is not to single out that 45 minutes for more than it was. Yes, we could've been much better, but I don't think it was reflective of our season."

This constant spin doctoring of our form really p*sses me off.  Yes, it WAS reflective of our season.  Too often we've been shambolic and our dreadful home form is the reason we are now on the bottom of the ladder.  We deserve to be there and two wins (against the same crap Perth team) is not nearly good enough.  Not even for a team in their first season.

Ricki has talked the team down all season and now they've delivered to expectations.  Why doesn't one of the coaching staff or the skipper just say "we were crap, we've let the fans down, we're disappointed with where we are, we're going to die trying to get a win next week" instead of the "oh well, wooden spoon is not the end of the world, it will all be better next year, look what we've achieved already, blah, blah, blah"

I'm bloody fuming we're bottom.  Isn't anyone else?

Compared to the previous 2 seasons of the Hyundai A-League i'd go as far as saying this season was a successful one and achieved everything that the club wanted to both on and off the field.

Deaker, Vietch etc need to pull their heads out of their arses and realise that the Wellington Phoenix have changed the face of NZ Football and the way Professional Sport in general should be operated!

Why do people bother comparing our performance with the Knights? Are you seriously implying that you're happy because the Phoenix are doing better than them? Any team would look good compared to them. Way to set the bar high.

Trying to be positive here, the Phoenix attack has been streets ahead of the Knights. We are currently on 25 goals with a game to go...the knights only managed 12 all season. At least we have tried to play attacking football. The defense looks similar we have conceded 35 goals so far the knights let in 39.

You can see how consistency is so import in a league table situation. You loose concentration at the end of a game, let in a late goal, drop a point here and there and it all comes back to bite you big time at the end of the season. The Phoenix don't deserve to be at the bottom of the table.

I think we kinda have to run with the comparisons to the knightz and kingz, all of the nz aporting community is compairing us - attempting to say we are the same, we have to fight back with evidence to prove the contrary - as above - we've won mroe, scored more, finished on more points, sure we are 8th and that sux but at the end of the day we were competitive and should have won a lot more - but lost due to immature errors. With time and experieince to build a stronger team we will be way better.

So after a season of great promise we are likely to end with the wooden spoon just like the Auckland teams before us.  This should be a reality check for the Phoenix. We need a strengthened playing roster another quality goal scorer, another play making  midfielder and another quality central defender.
Who has to go? In my book Old, O'Dor, Coveny and probably Elrich although he possibly gets one more season to prove himself.
Talk of us scraping into the top four five or so games ago has proved to be hype. Last place has to be a failure and I'm sure the goals set by the club, coaching and playing staff must have at the very least included avoiding the wooden spoon. I for one will be very disappointed with a wooden spoon finish. The Phoenix have not risen very far above the ashes from which they were born. At least up is the only place to go from here or is it ? just look what happened to the knights.

We know we are better so lets raise the bar higher now. If we keep basing ourselves on the Knights... Well I dont want to think what will happen.

FOR MADHOUSE.

No wonder our defence craps their pants.  If the Nix lose a couple of games - not only do we slip down the table - the very thought of a NZ professional football franchise is brought into question.

I've said it once - and I'll say it again:

f**k that f**king Brownlie bounce v Melb (and Smeltz being f**king 2cm too short).  f**k that f**king Christie f**king blunder.  f**k that f**king sh*tty Old tackle v Syd.  f**k that Coveny sitter miss v Barrels.

It's a tough league.  And we've been punished for the moments of dross.

Heartbreaking.  f**k yes.  But clear the chaff.  And I'm hoping like f**k that half of these howlers will turn good.

It's the Nix!  It's Terry's vision!  It's Wellington Goddammit!  We're not a city that needs instant gratification like some...and without sounding like a FFA spokeman: it's all about the 90 emotions with 12,000 people.  Not the Knight's two - apathy and doom - with 1,500 sucidal football diehards.

Enjoy next season.  I know I will.

No one wants to finish last, but the differance between this season and last season is huge.Forget about the Auckland/Wellington thing(if you can). The coach is far better, the players are way above the Kings and a least most times there is not a huge gap between the sides as there was last season. There have been very few thrashings and there are three or four players who are as good as anyone else in the league.
The main problem is that most of the players just don't have that football brain and also first touch. However, there is enough for me to think that the Nix can do well, although I feel that too many people expected far too much. For me, the most encouraging thing is that the support is there, and that is something Auckland never had.One has to be realistic about ones team.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

iI agree with a lot of what you say but I still think the true reflection of our suad is closer to the bottom of the leauge than the top. Still I would have been happy with seventh and now im lowering my sights for next year Ill be happy with 6th in season two.

you gotta aim high to finish high, target 6th and we will finish last, play for top four and we may get mid table or better!
