Well 4th is looking like the highest finish, with Gold Coast breaking away. I'm hoping that like Newcastle and Brisbane that one good win will get us going on a roll of 4 wins in a row or something.

Easy as that

I can't see us winning until Greenie gets back

It's encouraging to see North Queensland are below us having played one more game and are likely to stay below us after tonight's game against Melbourne.  How pissed I'll be if they get a result.

And Sydney should surely swat Adelaide.

Can I call the Mariners game a must-not-lose? Yep, because it's just that, draw would be acceptable, a win outstanding (especially at BlueTongue), but a loss would make the rest of the season very much an uphill struggle.

That's the kind of optimism I like to see, we'll suddenly start winning all our games and finish in the top 4...

14 points, that should see us through.
We have the Fury and Roar, a so-so Melbourne and Adelaide. Each one is beatable.
Now that a near full strength squad is back, I reckon we will take our chances. Gold Coast may have scored 5 on Saturday but they are utterly predictable and we have to line them up for a win.

Home games are key for us in the run home...we are still unbeaten at the ROF for 14 games, and I hope we can stretch this further.

Still have Brisbane, NQF and CCM to come to the ROF, and 7 points from those three matches would be great. We also have Adelaide in Chch, and would dearly love to beat them for the first time. Away matches will be tough, but CCM are in a big hole at the moment and we can spoil their NYE on Thursday. Perth and then Melbourne within 4 days of each other will be tough, but neither have beaten us this season...whilst we also beat Gold Coast 6-0 earlier in the season.

if we do lose, regardless of next weeks results, we will not beat last years 21 round total

We've played 19. Last year we got 26 points. We are currently on 22 points. Therefore:

He was comparing our total from when the league round robin phase consisted of 21 rounds to how we're going this season.

This is the sort of comment that I would expect from someone that knows zip.
We have been saying this all season. It is the big IF.
If we had won our drawn games we would have been top. If we win ALL our remaining games we will be the best team in the A league.
If we had 10 Messi's playing for the AW's we would win the WC.?

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Wow.  Talk about an over-reaction.

yeah, it was a simple statement of fact, merely pointing out the obvious I suppose.Probably a little more relevant given we've played two games less than everyone else. We have the last game of this round on the 31st, and a game to make up.

I was not being a down and outer.
The original comment was pretty childish.

I'm ultra scared of losing and staying at ninth on the ladder, espcially on NYE, a time for party, not sorrow.

what's childish about having hope? if you want to look and live on the bleak side of live be my guest, but don't try and drag me and those of us who want to believe in the positives.

Fact. Yet given that it also represents 50% of the wins during our season-so-far, what makes anyone but the most optimistic, think we can string together a couple of wins?

Amazing what 3 points can do to a team on a congested table!

Some other points:
- we're now ahead of both CCM and NQF and have a game in hand
- goal difference is still one of the better ones in the league, certainly better than Newcastle and Brisbane, and that could help in a tie-breaking situation.
- now have our final four home games against teams ranked 6th, 8th, 9th and 10th on the ladder.
- we don't have to play Sydney FC again, and only have Melbourne to play once more. It's been fair to say that they've been the best two teams this season.

Home games against Brisbane and North Queensland are absolutely huge now. MINIMUM of 4 points are required, with the win against Brisbane preferably. Would be a great time to break our duck against the Roar and kick off 2010 in style.
