Let's concentrate on NQF on Friday now...3 points should be in the offing if we continue to play as we have.

To be precise:
20 Feb - 3 v 6 - loser is eliminated.
20 Feb - 1 v 2 1st leg.
21 Feb - 4 v 5 - loser is eliminated.

6 Mar - 1 v 2 2nd leg.
7 Mar - winner 3/6 v winner 4/5 - loser is eliminated

13 Mar - loser 1/2 v winner 3/6/4/5 - loser is eliminated

20 Mar - Grand Final

Seems like a fair system to me.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yeah, agreed it is a decent system. Only change I would like to see would be the game between the two winners of the 3-6 and 4-5 games to be across two legs. Realise that would drag it out but think that would be a good change.

A playoff game at the ROF would be immense. 4th place would be a dream finish for me, hopefully we can keep it up.

I think they need to give some advantage to finishing 3rd and 4th if the top 6 make the playoffs, so having one legged with those teams getting to play at home seems fairer to me than having two legs.

That would be fantastic if Phoenix can secure a home semi final. Wonder what the attendance would be if that was the case

I think he means the showdown between the winners of 3v6 and 4v5 should be over two legs, which I agree would be a good idea, even if it extended the whole thing out by a week.

Also agree that 3v6 and 4v5 should be one-off games at the home of 3 and 4.

If we happened to qualify for the playoffs and win the first elimination semi-final, things could be rather rushed...because don't we play Mexico earlier in that week?

If we can somehow finish 3rd would be awesome. 2 home playoffs which I'm sure would be sellouts. Probably not that realistic but it has to what the players aim for.

Sorry - I missed the vital word "winners" that LF1 helpfully bolded.

I'm ambivalent on whether that tie is two-legged. On the one hand, it should be 3 v 4, so two legs would seem like a good idea. On the other, it could be 4 v 6 and an argument could be made that 6th place doesn't deserve a home match.

I assume that the A-League will use the "NFL" approach and not the "NBA" approach. In the former, seeding (and home advantage) is based on the highest surviving seed. In the latter (at least the last time I looked), if 6th beats 3rd then 6th takes over 3rd's rights in terms of which seed they will now play. I don't know for sure, as the A-League regs didn't commit themselves, so have allowed for both possibilities in my spreadsheet.

The Jest have now won 5 of their past 6 matches. We would dearly love them to lose a game so we can jump ahead of them. They're still in sight, our GD is far superior, and a win and Newcastle loss puts us back in front.

Hopefully Sydney FC knock over Perth...or draw.

Bloody Melbourne.....what are they doing?
They are now in danger of being overtaken by GC for that all important second spot. We now have the prospect of playing both Melbourne and GC away. Both of them will be absolutely desperate for points....they will be bloody tough games for us. Especially playing away in Perth and then flying for a midweeker against Melbourne.....then down to Christchurch...all in a week.
We can get 4th and that home semi but it would helpif the jets started losing.

Newcastle have won 5 out of there last 6, wins against the top 3 clubs Sydney, GCU and now Melbourne. they are also peaking at the right time. And still they cant get a decent crowd at there ground.

Seven points in our next 5 games should be enough for a playoff spot I reckon.

leagues least losses  most draws  and equal worst wins . still 5th spot is awesome.... win this friday and we are well and truely looking at a decent spot in the top 6.

29 goals though, 3rd best tally.  Like the table, shame Melbourne didn't help us out to keep us 4th, but like others have said, Destiny is in our own hands.George Costanza2010-01-11 12:47:26
