I would be more than happy with any play-off spot - I'll take 6th in a heart beat - no NZ side has ever made the play-offs and once you're in the play-offs anything can happen.

From where we currently sit I think the top 3 is a big ask but finishing 4th or 5th is more than achievable. It is looking more and more like we will be playing Newcastle in the 4th vs 5th game and we are in a dogfight with Newcastle for home advantage.

Still plenty of water to go under the bridge - hopefully Adelaide will do us a favour and beat Perth tomorrow night and we can get points from both the Perth and Melbourne games. If we can a win against Adelaide should just about seal top 6.

Given our record when not at home and with only one home game left, I suspect we may have to settle for 6th. Fingers crossed that our last two away games are more representative of what we can do away. Otherwise we may be looking at just 4 more points for the season - which should be enough for 6th.

I totally agree. Also hopefully we get a big crowd in ChCh, i think that would help alot after 2 games away against a Melbourne and perth sides who both have pretty loud fans.

we are only paying $1.03 at the NSW TAB to make top 6. they basically reckon we're there

Jeez....GC on top!!!!
Football Australia wil be spewing if GC get the final at home.....imagine that, a crowd of less than 10,000

If all goes to plan we will playoff against the Jets.....home if we get 4th or away if 5th. We would be favourites at home....away would be tough, but we are good enough to beat them.

Then away to probably Melb or GC. Either would be tough but I would prefer GC....they are our bunnies. They can be good on attack but their defense would struggle to hold Ifill, Dadi, Bertos and co.............this is all bloody exciting!!!!

Must not get too far ahead of ourselves. The next week is the week from hell. Whoever devised 3 games in a week including a game in Perth and a game in Christchurch with Melbourne in the middle is a SADIST. if I was not such a nice person I would suspect an Australian conspiracy!!!

Totally agree! Doesn't seem right!

First things first. Let beat DAMN Perth. We are better than them and we need those 3 points!

Not sure who is to blame, though I reckon it's the Tards for planning the midweek game.

I can see where they are coming from, given the novelty of Australia Day, and we probably agreed to have this catch-up game played on the 26th too?

Would only make victory that much sweeter if we claimed our first win away to them.

The catch up round was actually required due to the suspension of the league in October and November (1 round in each month) to allow NEW ZEALAND to qualify for the World Cup.

Your conspiracy theory is dead already.

Loving the Phoenix in 4th place.  I still think we can reel Melbourne in who have been crap to put it nicely.  Three wins from the next 3 games is very possible.  7 points is more likely but even that will be great for us.  Hoping we can exceed 40 points and I think that's very possible.

I wanted to post here the other day, but now that Melbourne did it 6-2 over Perth, I wonder what this gent's comments would be now about Melbourne's form.

Realistically, top-3 seems a bit too far away from us. If we hadn't let Melbourne in for a draw at the ROF, then we'd still be a chance. 4th and a home playoff should be our first goal, with the immediate goal obviously being to guarantee ourselves in the 6.

I have spent all season driving my other half crazy with permutations of where we will be in the table if we win, lose or draw the next game in relation to what are closest contenders are doing and it has finally sunk in that we just need to get out there and do our best to win. I am really happy with the way things have been going over the last few weeks and I've finally given up trying to work out what we need to do to end up in the top 2,3,4 etc.
Well done lads - keep it up!

Well one game doesn't exactly make a form guide does it not?

Question for the anorak wearers- If say GCU come first and make the grand final where will it be held? Because I'm sure when CCM and Newcastle played in Version 3 it was at the SFS regardless?

Theoretically the top qualifer gets a home game.  It has been the case for every season excluding the one you mention above.   IIRC, there was some fuss from CCM about giving up 'home' advantage by playing it at SFS.  Think FFA theory was that Bluetongue was too small and that both CCM and the Jets were close enough to SFS for it not to matter.

Not sure what would happen if GCU was host.  Maybe Suncorp?

CGU are looking likely to get a home game (would take a pretty epic capitulation for them not to), I hope it does get shifted so fatso can suffer in his jocks. Not much else he'd be able to do. joachim2010-01-19 13:21:48

Three for me, and two for them.

Disappointed that Adelaide didn't take something from the game (saw it at 1-0).

Hey Fellas, if we did get a home play off would the stadium be free ie does anyone know if Rugby is being played that weekend in Wellington?

And if we got a home playoff do season ticket holders get first dibs on seats or is it a free for all.

Palmy wouldn't meet the criteria, probably neither would Christchurch due to the rebuild. Eden Park may be the only way

I can remember rugby and Nix playing at the stadium the same weekend before.

I think it may have been Friday night and Sunday afternoon games. If we get a home semi, with the Canes playing Saturday night, we would have to play Friday night or Sunday pm.

It would need the grounds staff to "convert" the field from soccer to rugby, or visa versa, in less than 24 hours. I would have thought that would be possible.
