The pitch wasnt too bad from where I was sitting tbh, and also I think that Jet lag and overall tiredness played a big part in his performance last week. (I hope)

A quick question, the lith's touch was sh*t, but how was the pitch he was playing on??
The ring of fire will be in alot better state than the training pitches used for friendlies which have more holes in it than the plot in TERMINATOR 4.
Porirua Park is probably the best floodlit surface in Wellington outside the Tin.
If Astroclaus can't play on that I suggest he head home quicker than the quickest man outside Lithuania.
To be fair though he's looked fairly sharp at training from the little bit I've seen and last Wednesday he was fresh off the boat pretty much. And still didn't look bad.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I stand corrected, if you don't have a touch on a carpet, thats well lighted and your a professional... concerns can and should be raised.
Think Devine!!
Hopefully it was just a bad day.

Quicker than Devine, younger than Devine, better players around him than Devine.

I got a bit of optimism from his play against Lower Hutt where he created a decent chance and the keeper pulled off a great save. He sized up the shot and put it where he wanted but the keeper made a great save.
Contrast that to the chances that fell to Hearfield and Costa and their efforts were more a case of hit and hope.
Look forward to seeing him get better service tomorrow night and him being a bit fresher.

How longs he here for? Do we know? Can't remember hearing anything about it

He's here to sign if we want. Otherwise I presume we'll send him home in the next week or so. If he plays well tonight surely we take a punt on him.

Yeah I'd think so too. but I was just wondering if he'll stay for Ricki to have a look at. Seems almost silly to sign him up without the head coach comparing him to other players they've trialled. Esp as Ricki is the one who would have identified he wants a tall targetman I pressume.

I 'm confident Ricki and Tony have chosen competent assistants to do the job while the coach is away. This will be happening through the season with All Whites WC Qualifiers etc. so they'll need to be up to speed by then.
They'll know if the trialists have the skills required and have potential to perform the roles envisaged..and if they aren't emailing and phoning Ricki with updates I'd be surprised too.
My only regret re tonight's Porirua Park outing is what sort of quality service will they be missing out on, with key players on All Whites duty?

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

After last week performance i am quietly confident this guy could be one of the players of season if he hits his potential early enough. He certainly didn't look 100% last week but showed a few signs of what he is capable of.

Yeah.Fingers crossed eh?

funniest post of the month in my opinion. If you sang this and distorted your voice it might sound like a japanese anime jingle!!

What happened with this guy? Has he gone home?

Yeah does anyone know what happened to him? Was he not offered a contract?

Tony is online now, i do believe so hopefully he is looking around at this topic

Apparently he has gone back home untill we make a decision.
I think its just a matter of comparing him with Putter and then looking at the cap
fixed

Yea Tony confirmed it on the Greenacres thread. It would have been good to compare both of them with Greenacres against Melbourne.

Rather than take two out of three, wouldn't it be great to sign all three new strikers.
Allow us to start with two up front with one on the bench.
And with three on the books, we could still start two if one of them got injured.
Signing all three is/was the plan if they all impressed.
So far the jury is out on Astroclaus and we haven't seen Putter.

Why not keep Astroclaus in town till Ricki sees him? (Assume Ricki will be back at Nix HQ in a couple of days.)
What if Ricki gets home, we decide we want Astroclaus, but he's had a better offer while he's back in Lithuania? Would seem smarter to keep him close until we're sure about Putter.
Having all three on the same training pitch - getting some game time in the same warm-up matches - would seem the best possible way to assess their strengths/weaknesses.
Or am I missing something?

You might be missing that people have a lot of faith in Trani and Gould.

I think the week-long break in training could well be a factor in why hes gone home?

Its a long way there and back in a week!

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Thats kinds of bizarre....if he has gone home. Kind of looks like thanks but no thanks.
If they were serious about him then why would you not want him to play against Melbourne in a proper trial with the full team. Playing him against Hutt with the senior coach and a heap of the team 6000kms away in Africa is hardly a fair go.
Unless Astroclaus has said bugger this for a joke and has gone home.....time will tell what the real story is.

I heard from a good source that he was terrible and is not coming back......

He wasn't terrible. I suspect they looked at what he would cost, what they need and decided he wasn't the perfect fit so they will keep looking.
Good news as far as I'm concerned. Much better than a kneejerk Kwasnik signing.

Yeah....fair call if they thought he was not up to it. Still time ticks by. How many available strikers are floating around the globe waiting for the Phoenix to give them a call?
if Putter is a dog then what happens then?According to Tony P Astroclaus had gone home by the 20th june. Short and sharp trial.
I saw him play two trial games and though he looked a little rusty he looked to have quite a lot of potentile. He certainly looked fast....he has height. He looked to have good positional sense and worked hard on defense and attack. He certainly looked better than other Phoenix dogs like Kwasnik, George, and that other Oz striker from year one

I'd say that if Putter turns out crap then Astro will get the call back.
