Manny Muscat Re-Signs

Via Twitter:

Manny Muscat stays loyal and signs a 2 year deal with the Phoenix

http://bit.ly/ziKD7a

Such are Manny Muscats feelings for the Wellington Phoenix he has turned down approaches from both his home town clubs, Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart, to sign a new two-year deal.

Muscat, 27, admits the offers, along with the fact that his wife Rebecca is expecting the couples first child on January 30, made the decision to remain in Wellington difficult.

There were a lot of factors to consider, especially with opportunities to go back to Melbourne, Muscat said.

My family are there and I have business commitments as well, so it was a tough decision but in the end I thought if you are enjoying your football as I am, why go elsewhere?.

The fact that Dura (captain Andrew Durante) and Iffie (Paul Ifill) have just re-signed was a factor in my decision as was Ricki (Herbert) staying with the club.

Ricki is the only coach Ive had in my professional career and he has had a major influence on me.

He knows what people are all about and gets the best out of you.

Do you notice that so many of these great players who're saying say something like "Ricki is a brilliant coach"? I wonder what Danny Hay thinks of that.

Great news for us. Staying loyal to a team that gave him his first chance at a professional career.

Why are we talking about Marco all of a sudden?

Well HOO-HAR!!!

I am amazed he didn't mention the quality of the training facilities available in Melbourne too. That must have been factor in his decision!

Muscat. Legend.

(The Manny one. The Kevin one is just a c***)

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Wonder what the Ricki-Haters think of all these good players praising Ricki... I wonder if its Ryan Nelsens influence....

Terrific news. You have highly sort after players like Smeltz, Rojas and Moss leave the club, when we wanted then to stay, and you start to wonder if there is an inside perception that it is sort of a second rate place to play. And then a guy from Melbourne turns down multiple offers to go back and stay here instead. Ifill and Durante staying were good, but this is even more important IMO.

love this manny comment;

The only change Id like to see is me return to the defensive midfield role I prefer. Ive been happy to fill in at right back but hope to convince Ricki I should be in midfield where I feel more involved in the game.

Re: Ricki - didn't Dura say when he re-signed something about Ricki being open to ideas and listening to the players? This would be consistent with that I guess?

And thank God expressing my love for Dura in front of Manny last month didn't break Manny's heart too much. Certainly played a part in the delayed decision but good that in the end Manny didn't take my comments personally. If you'd let me have the chance Manny I'd have told you how much I love you too!

Dura and Manny have chemistry. They look like BFsF. So glad our Super hero duo at the back are going to stay with the club to fight Australian evil alongside Siggy Norris. ahmad2012-01-21 11:25:56

New Zealand is considered a second-rate place... by New Zealanders. We seem to think that the "real world" is anything other than here. But Manny, being Aussie/Maltese, doesn't have that inferiority complex.

Hmm. Shades of Mini Judas?

Actually I like seeing Manny as a RWB (wing backs are the dogs bollox in footy). Last few games he's been better at this than disco ever was.

Well maybe he is?

After all he's in the perfect environment to further his career. World class training facilities and watching seasoned pros like Mr GORGEOUS from the stands. I'm sure he'll be a top flight CAM in no time at all.

I think there's a stage too that airlines refuse to carry pregnant woman?

So I guess the little All White is out..

The only thing that worries me is that out of the 10 players that have resigned, 7 are over 30years old. We need some good younger players as well.Leggy2012-01-21 12:28:14
