Good article, except for the fact that he didn't pop back over and score a goal...

Yes he did. It was after Leo beat his man down the wing and put in a beautiful cross.

It's a girl so let's just hope it doesn't have a big tackle!

The Phoenix will need a women's team in a few years time, seems most of the players partners are having girls. Only Siggy's partner has had a boy I think.

Congrats Manny and Becs (players partner nicknames? why not).
What wonderful timing for his suspension, hopefully the team will do well without him this weekend and Manny can enjoy some quality time with his new arrival.
In the competition of who loves Manny the most I enter one of the new kittens at my house, named Manny after guess who.
(the others called Siggy)

ESPN is advertising Italy v Malta tomorrow morning, any one know if Manny is in the squad?

Permalink Permalink
over 13 years ago · edited over 13 years ago · History

With Malta playing Italy in WC qualifier live on ESPN tomorrow morning, was hoping Manny was still playing for Malta.

Just checked and unfortunately he's not in the squad - and hasn't played for Malta since Sept 6 2011, almost exactly a year ago. Is this due to Manny making himself unavailable or the change in coach for Malta after that time?  Manny's last game for Malta : 1-1 home draw with Georgia 6/9/11 Euro Championship qualifier (as good as it gets for lowly Malta generally).

"On 6 September 2011, Malta won their first Euro 2012 qualifying point, with a 1–1 draw against Georgia. During the years of 2010 and 2011, Malta did not get many positive results, and coach John Buttigieg and assistant coach Carmel Busittil were both sacked in October 2011."

Despite a Sam Worthington article last week in the Dom-Post saying Muscat was "in Albania playing for Malta" seems in fact he wasn't - no mention of him in any line-ups for that game:

http://int.soccerway.com/matches/2014/03/05/world/friendlies/albania/malta/1644871/?ICID=HP_MS_01_06

http://www.maltafootball.com/2014/03/05/malta-loses-2-0-in-durres/

His last game for Malta remains the 1-1 home draw with Georgia 6/9/11 Euro Championship qualifier.

Sam Worthington reporting facts that are actually completely wrong? I'm shocked.

Thought it was something like that. Worse than our overall record.

I was at the away game in Newcastle when Manny scored his first goal in January 2012! :-)

I think I remember (it had been a long day...!) that being Daniel's 100th game as well.

Manny scored a cracking winning goal in front of the away fans, and we'd just won our 2nd away game in a week after beating the Cold Toast - cracking trip! :-D

Was that the one where Daniel had five minutes on the pitch and touched the ball once? Great way to celebrate your centenial.

Still don't know what Ricky had against him towards the end of his term at the nix.

Would you rather have Daniel coming off the bench (as he seemed to for last 10 or so appearances) or the current version of Kenny?

You mean like when Ricki brought Daniel on in the 89th minute and expected to score? Ricki promised Daniel a few things that he never delivered on. For example, a place in the All Whites to see how he'd go.

Agree. I felt for Daniel, actually. He would not have gone for the citizenship - got it just when Ricki decided to discard him.

Daniel would not cope with the physicality of the Perth game.

Kenny - he might turn around yet.
