Marco Rojas - The retirement of the Kiwi Messi

We better have a good crack at signing him next season. I'd like to see him stay in the A-League for another two seasons and leave being easily the most exciting player in the league, bagging 10+ goals a season.

Strength, guts and decision making (at times) still hold him back. He should stay at victory for while yet.

One thing I noticed at the Olympics is how many 50/50s he pulls out of.  I think you're right that he needs to get a bit tougher.  I think you want to leave the A-League when you're right at the top of your game, one of the top 10 players in the league, as it's still a big step up

No, has to improve physically and also his fitness. Still think he's a couple of years off.

Is he good enough for Spain?

Right now, no. It all really depends on how he develops from now, he has talent, but Europe is a much, much tougher ask than the A-league.

His other problem at the moment is that he's not a 90 minute player - he fades badly in the last 25-30 minutes of games, he really needs to work on his stamina to make sure he can perform at his usual level late in games.

Bollocks!

Messi is a midget and competes "reasonably" well. The world is full of quality small players, they are just tougher than what he is at the moment (and in Messi's case more talented).

Messi is only short he has a good amount of size, bulk and physical presents. Missing in MR.

Messi is also 4 years older and MR needs to fill out and work on his body strength.

He has a long way to go but he does have talent that some of our AW's will never have.

Plus Messi is arguably the greatest footballer ever.

Rojas is not.

Three for me, and two for them.

Lol at the Rojas Messi comparison.

Comparing size - not skill... as good as i think Rojas potentially is... he's better, much much better.

More making the point that little players can compete... for example the new Liverpool kid who plays on the wing... the 17 year old is built like paper and does alright, Osman from Everton, Allen also at Liverpool etc etc.

I agree he needs to bulk up to help him, i just don't think its quite the deciding factor is was made out to be whether or not he could be successful overseas.

Besides isn't the A League considered quite a physical comp compared to others, this must surely help.

I had a good laugh watching the recorded game against Victory, when the teams came out noticing that the kid holding Marco's hand is bigger than him!

I think Marco looks a bit p*ssed off by the selection of child as well!

Arguably - it can be argued. That doesn't mean he personally thinks messi is the greatest footballer ever.

Melbourne Victory's hot run of A-League form has continued with a Marco Rojas goal capping a 1-0 win over travel-shy Perth Glory at AAMI Park.

Rojas' classy second-half score continued an excellent season for the New Zealand speedster as the third-placed Victory made it four wins and a draw from their past five games to move within a point of second-placed Central Coast.

Are there any rumors about a possible move yet?

Should stay for at least another season imo - Ange is obviously a good coach and Marco has finally gotten his confidence back.

I reckon his form since the end of last season for the All Whites, Olympic squad and now MV has been excellent. If he maintains his form for the remainder of the season and remaining All White WC qual games he could be in a very good position to move to a decent league and club. Which I'm not sure another season in the HAL would necessarily improve.

I personally think he has the talent now, so should go now if the opportunities arrive.

But, when looking at a club, he needs to have a clear idea of how they plan to use him and what his squad status will be. Rotation / Squad player may mean a lot of time on the bench or in reserves.

His game should improve through training and playing with and against higher levels of opponents more regularly.

Each year there seems to be a good young Aussie picked up by a German or Dutch club. Marco seems the obvious next cab off the rank.

Permalink Permalink

yeah i think holland would suit him a bit better than germany. Although germany would be good too.

Its about getting game time though.
If he was to go, the important thing is regular gametime. so even being loaned down to a lower league team could work.

Given his Rufer connections, I'm sure Germany will be the first option.

Sorry, wasn't meaning Rufer's connections. Just that Marco has connections with Rufer, so that is where he will push him.

Think Germany would suit him - Kruse is doing well there; if he can do it, Marco can.

Definitely a league on the up too.

Germany could be good. Think he should be playing more football.

I think he would definitely be challenging for a start in a European club, and I'm not sure that an extra year here will help that.

That said last year is a good example of being stuck in a team where the coach throws him on the field and expects magic. Ange is serious about the whole system catering to him and Archie- he really is the main outlet of the attack and the goal stats flatter him- he should have had more. He needs to go somewhere where the coach is going to help him.

I personally think that while he is stronger now, he was playing much better for the 'Nix in his break out season.

Really? Think he's been a couple of steps above what he did for us in the last few games tbh

It would be awesome if he was to sign in Spain or Portugal.
