I really don't blame him. I wouldn't renew for the phoenix at the moment. There are legtimate questions about the 'Santander Phoenix' and if they can't be resolved behind closed door now, moving is the only sensible outcome.

I'm not trying to be negative, but realistic.

That sucks. Youth players should be protected from being poached if there's no cost.

Rubbish. They are human beings, not the club's property.

Nothing to do with being property. Without protection why would any club - except for the ones with pulling power - ever do any youth development?

This is why in our Bosman age, youth players are protected in normal leagues. The A-League is an anomaly in this scenario.

He's 19 ffs, not a retard.

I am still disappointed by his decision but come on...

I reckon he owed the Phoenix at least another year given what they did for him. Yes, he had the skill to get where he is, but he wouldn't have been found by any other club. Personally I think he should have taken up a 1 year contract and made it clear that he intends to leave at the end of that contract, that way he could have left on good terms.

I honestly dont see what more the victory can give him, other than better training facilities and more money or whatever.

If he had left us before the start of this season I would have understood because he could he fit into the Victory youth team at the very least and get some good game time.

But he has had a good season and has had plenty of appearances and done very well. So the issue of game time surely shouldn't matter. Especially as the Victory have flown out this morning for their ACL match and it is too late for him to join.

I will just wait to see if Marco becomes a victim of Ernies drastic team changes and he ends up playing youth league all season.
He says he wants to play in the middle of the park more too.
Melbourne Midfield is made up of a strong contingent of A-League seasoned vets.
He should be taking over Angulo out wide.

Its going to be tough for him there. I don't doubt it.

Lets all just get out loads of angst, and be mature afterwards.

1. Have fun benchwarming for the victory, dick.
2. I hate you.
3. I never liked you anyway.

I HOPE YOUR PLANE CRASHES MARCO.

Okay, now, we'll be fine, we have sh*tloads of money now, so why don't we use it and get someone even better.
We'll be fine without Rojas.

We all knew this was going to happen.

Still think he made the wrong decision. And can't help to think that his Dad made him go there.

Good luck to him. I think he will be a very good player. But I have lost all respect for him NHpeter2011-02-27 18:14:19

F**king gutted by this.
Marco has huge POTENTIAL, he isnt THAT good, yet!
I hope that one day he does reach his full potential, but I'm sure it wont be with MV.
Break off all diplomatic ties with Chile. His dads a tw*t (IMHO)
If this is how MR repays the YF's belief in him?, then maybe it's better that he has f**ked off.

the way some people are carrying on, as though he is unable to make sound decisions, amazes me though.Arsenal2011-02-27 18:16:30

I think it's a f**ked up decision. A move to one of the better European leagues I might just about have aceepted but to throw us over for the Victory is almost insultingly disrespectful to so many people associated with YF and the Nix who kickstarted his career.

And until I actually see him run out onto the park in an AWs shirt I will remain unconvinced that his plans even include playing for NZ.

Ugh, bile tastes really foul.

I don't see why YF should be bother with offering the scholarship considering this is the reward for being such a good group of fans.

I'll make sure I bring rotten vegetables next time MV is at the RoF.

I see an official statement from YF coming at some time in the future.

Im pretty sure the Scholarship prize was not for the winner to join the Phoenix.
Also. Not all of you voted for him, so don't get so upset and say that he is a disgrace and disloyal.

Marco won the scholarship via his voters. Im sure that the people who voted for him (Myself included) would also be happy to see him make the most of it.

To me, all that Yellow Fever has done for him was give him the opportunity to TRAIN with the nix. He took that chance and made the most of it, and impressed Ricki and the club enough to get a contract.Stefan2011-02-27 18:23:25

Maybe a condition of the scholarship is that you cannot play for another A League team if we like the player

Whatever the semantics of it is, Phoenix picked him up as an unknown youth, gave him exposure in the league, and at the FIRST opportunity, he is off to one of our rivals.

A disloyal little dickhead, make no mistake about it.

What do you expect? If you spit in the face of someone who's just plucked you from nowhere, do you reckon they'll shake your hand or punch you?
