Who knows? Hemed takes it maybe he misses too. Probably doesn’t, but maybe does.

Are we definitely out now?
No, still a pathway if we beat Mac. Perth need to drop points and/or Adelaide lose their last game against WSW.

Butchered it.. our assistant saying “we will try to defend our 1-0 lead and hope it works” is such a wrong mentality. Davila penalty was poor.. can’t blame VAR or refs or anything.. we had destiny in our hands and we fluffed it. So sad right now
Can't we though? Their first goal we gifted them by losing easy possession. Their second was a cracker and that's it. They did nothing else. Notwithstanding the fact that we should have scored the penalty, there were two handballs in the box and a questionable tackle on Ball in injury time. Why shouldn't we complain about that? The rules are there to be enforced. We should have had another one. Lucky? Yes. But also Fairmile

Another great, entertaining game though AND, overall, for sure a memorable season. With a bit of luck finals football is still possible.
COYN.
Great to hear Ukuk calm and level headed and positive at the end there.

Did Davila’s miss help out his new team?
He didn't exactly look upset after the game...

Yes mathematically but in reality, no, as it would take some fluke results to go our way.

Freaking great strike from Sotirio to keep us in it.
What’s the assessment on Jaushy and Louis after that game?

To make top 6 we need to finish ahead of 2 of these teams: Adelaide, Brisbane, Macarthur, Perth. If we beat Macarthur we go to 38 points.

Macarthur currently on 36 points. If they don't beat Western United tomorrow night, we can beat them to overtake them.

Adelaide on 38 but we beat their goal difference. Only one match left vs WSW, so if they lose that we overtake them.

Perth on 33 so we finish ahead of them we only need them to drop points in one of last two matches, vs Brisbane & Newcastle.

Brisbane on 37 with 3 to go, vs WSW on now, then Perth & Sydney.

Would have been SO much more comfortable with 3 points in the bag tonight.

Unless I'm mistaken the absolute requirements are Western to not lose against Mac tomorrow night (lmao), and us beating Mac on Friday. Then we will need one of either:
  • Perth to lose against either Brisbane on Wednesday or Newcastle on Saturday, or to draw against both.
  • Adelaide to lose their last game against the Wanderers.
  • Brisbane to lose their last three against Wanderers, Perth and Sydney. Mathematically we can afford them to draw one and lose two, but would mean they would need to lose one by at more than one goal, or else we need to beat Macarthur by two or more.
Not likely, but not impossible by any means. Season will be over tomorrow if Western shark the bed again though

EDIT: not gonna lie I don't think this is true lol. Pretty sure if Western lose against Macarthur all is not lost, we would need Perth to drop points and for Adelaide to lose.

You are mistaken. Even if Macquarie win tomorrow there are still chances available. Also, even if Perth win & draw we would finish ahead of them if we win.

Edit: also please put Uffie’s remarks up on YouTube. We need guidance in these troubled times!

It did..but in the context of a season or a late season charge, two 0-0 draws and a 1-1 draw didnt help. The decision making around the penalty taking cost us as did the result.

Pathetic response to an obviously tongue in cheek comment. Refs can have bad days and people can complain about it, doesn't mean it cost us the game but it didn't make it easy. One of the fevers best chant is bagging the ref to the tune of the exponents.

Gutted. Deflated but really proud of this team.
Hemed is our best penalty taker. Should have taken the shot.
Can't rely on the refs for the win.
Our destiny is in the hands of others.
Been an awesome year lads.

Pretty sour way to end if that was indeed Dávila’s last action for the Phoenix on New Zealand soil.

Hemed took penalties and scored them against both Adelaide and Western Sydney whilst Dávila was on the field, so what was the motivation to change?

Seriously you couldn't half tell that Davilla had no motivation to take the pen and when he did he did it half assed like he was already thinking about next season and wanted McBulls to have the best opportunities in there next games to get into the top 6. It was so deliberate and i think we should bench him from the next game.

Imagine the feeling to score the winning goal in 88th minute, in your last game on NZ soil in a Nix shirt, as the team captain. After having provided the assist for the 2nd goal. Huge temptation to be the hero. But yeah now, sadly looks a selfish decision, given Hemed has been banging them in.

Everyone is being too harsh on Davila. He is a good penalty taker with a good record for us. He's captain so I think part of him taking it is wanting to take responsibility not being selfish. Reddy dives the other way and Davila is a hero.. I don't even think it was a particularly bad penalty just something that happens and a good stop.

Think Reddy did his homework and didn’t commit during his stutter, then could see where he was going. Good keeping too.

First post of the season......couldnt get the new site to work with my iPad. I had given up. Recently found my dusty old Lenova laptop in the garage, fired it up, ancient version of Chrome and all and it seems to work.
Regarding the pen. Uffie said Davilla and Hemed worked out who was taking the pen at the time. I guess the captain made the call and he will have to live with the consequences. In football you need "hot" players in key situations like penalties. Hemed was "hot". Starting, confident, scoring key goals including recent pens....obvious choice. Davilla was "cold". Just back from a three game injury break, hadnt started this game. Key point of the season IMO

It was a terrible pen IMO. Regardless which way reddy dove, it was too close to the keeper and not that much power to it. As others have said, reddy  also did his homework, good on him. Davila shouldn’t have taken it.

Anyway, overall, we had chances to win it and should have had two further pens. I didn’t think the pen in the first half was one. Seemed very little in it and even live I thought it was simulation or at least an exaggeration. Could tell by Payne’s reaction. Think of the three that weren’t given in the second half, the second one was the most blatant. An exciting game for the neutral but makes our chances all the harder. Oh and special mention to sotirio, peach of a goal.

Is it just me (was watching on tv) or did the crowd seem quiet, goals and last 5 mins aside? Sure I’ve heard louder crowds at eden park at previous fixtures. Anyway, decent turn out and great to see both sides mostly full, well done all 👍

Here’s to the almost impossible !

I have to say, for all the bagging i give him, Sotorio was good yesterday when he came on.

Quick touches, nice lay offs, excellent movement and a very well taken goal.

All we need is for him to become more consistent and he could turn into the player that Uffie must see in him, which us average fans have yet to.
