I thought nationalistic flags were banned by the Nix for these two games?

I'm too heartbroken to read the rest of thread, so apologies if this has already been brought up: I am very pro-Palestinian and anti-occupation, however, that jerk flying the flag of Palestine in Tomer Hemed's face after his goal probably put him off for the rest of the game and cost us the points. :( Palestine doesn't need your cheap trolling, guys.

I have a feeling it was the Wellington game for sure. Should be for both of course.
It is a longer topic than what we addressed in this current thread, but I still remember some 10 years ago John Minto standing with a loudhailer yelling outside the ASB Classic tennis grounds at Shahar Peer loud enough to be heard inside.  It left me feeling he was picking at low hanging fruit.

Everyone is being too harsh on Davila. He is a good penalty taker with a good record for us. He's captain so I think part of him taking it is wanting to take responsibility not being selfish. Reddy dives the other way and Davila is a hero.. I don't even think it was a particularly bad penalty just something that happens and a good stop.
Agree with everything apart from it not being a bad penalty, it really was.  Nowhere near the post, and at a very comfortable stopping height.  It was not at all good.

Yup. Those stutter step penalties feel more reliant on either sending the keeper the wrong way or making him go early than if you choose to place it (or even just running in and Twitting it). Bit easier to save when the keeper holds his ground, so I think Reddy deserves some credit for holding his feet.

Easy to say in hindsight, but should've been Hemed every day of the week.

Just read over the 200+ comments.
I left Upper Hutt at 4am, arrived at my favored Car Park (Free) near the ground at Midday. Went to the game, Drove home afterwards via Hawera where I had to drop off some gear for my sister and then home. Got in at 4am. Now that's a long day and near 1,400 km's.

Was it worth it??
For the most part yes. A draw is better than a loss. When Fornicater came on in the 2nd half my heart dropped. Like Castro, he seems to do well against us....and he did.

Yes, we should have put away 2 penalties and paid the price. The issue in the first 2 minutes was the correct call, in the last 2 minutes 1 or the three appeals should have been given. The one that Davila should never have taken was crucial. Hemed every time.

Auckland 22,233 - The second highest A League attendance thus far. Wellington leading the charge with 24,105. Great turnouts for the club. BUT wtf Auckland, I thought I was at a Rugby match you were so quiet. The Zone was trying to get you involved and you all stayed quiet and seated. Even some of the locals that wanted to be seen in "The Zone". Jesus, don't stand there and try and look "cool". Get in there and help create a real atmosphere. Aucklander's might have shown up in numbers but the players might as well have played in an empty stadium such was the lack of support or encouragement.

So was the trip and effort worth it? Yep. Weird results over the next week will determine our fate but the Nix players know, most of us are there for them. If we can keep Cameron & Hemed and Taylor, we will have a a great base on which to build. Piscopo, even Josh, put their heart and souls into that game. Great goals Josh & Tomer.

Doloras, I didn't notice that flag thing. You are quite right. That fan disrespected the club and team and the crowd by pulling that stunt.

Moment of the match for me:

In the zone, "we" were giving Reddy heaps of shark  - The worst Keeper, Phoenix Reject etc and he waved back, "We" kept it up and 5 seconds later, they scored their second wonder goal and "we" all missed it. Reddy was waving at us. Total respect to him for being a good sport and he got the last laugh at "our" expense. To me, that was a funny moment and we got what we deserved. Reddy 1 Nix Fans 0. Who said you cant' have a laugh at games and with players during it. Reddy was an excellent Keeper for the Nix.

I remember the Hobbit game- we gave him 90 minutes of stick about his drinking and he was a real sport about it. That’s the kind of thing that makes it fun to a fan. Tough competition, but laughs too. Has had real success in the A league in my opinion, considering his longevity.

It says a lot about him. He's been a pretty good keeper over all. A howler moment here and there throughout his career but his positives easily outweigh those. He has a sense of humour and to be fair, the greif we've dished out in the past, and he still smiles.

Thanks for the kind comments. it's what to me is about being a fan. At this point in time I've been lucky to attend them all. Just like a few others. You all know, you see familiar faces at the airports etc. Fans that don't usually associate even with this site. But total respect to all of you for trying to create a following and an atmosphere.

Oh and to the fan whom scored a return Trainfare from Wellington to Auckland for $147.00. Top man. I suggest to everyone, if we book in a group, can we score a similar deal. No driving, no flying, just 12 hours on a train with a bar and food and some of NZ's great scenery around Raurimu. This needs investigating. A Fever Train to support the Waine Train.

My uncle caught the train down to Welly from Auckland for the 2009 Bahrain game. Still talks about it very fondly & he's a rabid rugby man. Think there was however a bit of stress getting to the game on time, with some track delay approaching the capital!

I did not see that on the box so if that happened poor form from him, completely out of order.  No Nix or diehard kiwi sports fan would do that to a player, whatever his/her race, nationality, creed or orientation.

In saying that, I'm not sure he is in anyway interested in the Nix, likely just turned up to have a go at a prominent Israeli.  Piss poor behaviour and not welcome anywhere, NZ or otherwise.

I know some Nix fans who were planning to take Free Palestine flags to the Wellington match, but then with flags banned they didn't. Seemed a fair truce.

I certainly would've advised someone not to take a Palestine flag to Eden Park, but can understand the desire to. Didn't see any footage of it.

As someone who stayed in Wellington & watched on TV, I couldn't help wondering if the sudden appearance of pre- & post-game content on Sky the last couple of weeks was related to the new TV rights deal?

Not seeing Edwin Congo's first La Liga goal for Levante 30 seconds after the final whistle felt like I'd slipped into some alternate universe.

sky tv are a sponsor of the Nix, they wont want to lose the TV rights so I'd expect they'll be making a strong offer. Especially given they've spent big on naming rights at the stadium.

I doubt this as you are the only person who has said this since the game has happen. If that had happen as you say it did and it was waved in his face, I would have expected it to have been on social media that day (Facebook and twitter) and then gone crazy from there. The fact there is no coverage or pictures of it makes me doubt this happened.

I saw it too. I was sitting pretty much exactly across from where the flag-waver was, and roughly where Hemed went to celebrate. Pretty hard to miss from my angle

Ok, I stand corrected then. Just surprised that first hear of it was on here and no photos etc of it on Social.

Edit: so I don't know how it could have even happened when he scored or if he would have even seen it if someone did. He was in the middle of the pitch on the 18 yard box, ran a bit before getting mobbed. Was nowhere near the sideline to have possible paid enough attention to a random person waving a flag.

However, I have heard since from someone that there was a Palestinian flag there and was waved at him after the game when interacting with fans for photos. Security apparently moved the women and her partner who was filming it along.

A group in the front row behind the PG dugout were told to remove an item they had hung over the railing early 1st half. They immediately left their seats. Left 1 person behind who was spoken to by 2 large security lads about 5' later.  The other 2 rejoined him about 1/2 way through 2nd half.

I don’t think Tomer will care either if he saw it haha. He’s pretty adamant of his views on the situation and he knows not everyone will support him or his country. When he played in Spain, he was yelled anti Semitic abuse  by Levante fans I think and I think it happened when he played for QPR. He knows the reality of the world and I’m sure if he saw it, he wouldn’t have cared as much as the  people waving the flag would have wished . He seems like a guy who looks for things to make him happy, he re posted on his Instagram how the Auckland Jewish community supported and chanted for him. A glass half full kind of guy.

He scored in the last two games and did the Flying Phoenix with his hands each time, so this shows he's learned to "play it with a straight bat" when it comes to celebrations. Colourful character whose contribution to the club I will miss when he goes.

Just watching this goal yet again and again and again. I bet he couldn't believe his good fortune that Fenton delivered that ball into an acre of clear space that gave him about 2 minutes to decide where to place it. Outstanding goal. Well done both players.

The more I watched it, the more I think it was pre-planned after scouting Perth's defensive structures. Pretty sure Fenton doesn't look but still delivers straight to where Hemed is running.

yeah Hemed called for the cross and made a move, Fenton thankfully managed to find him. Clearly playing more together has helped the understanding, but I think that header was orchestrated by Hemed's movement.

So you "think" Sky Sports will pay more then the $150k a season now that Paramount have the rights? LOL Sky has been underpaying for years and not long ago were gonna remove all A-League games from its channels and have them delayed coverage same with the Nixs games. Also evertime after the match there is a interview with players/coaches but Sky shuts the feed off.
I doubt this will happen under Paramount.

dunno how much they'd be prepared to pay, but I dont think it matters swho the Aussie provider is. Sky will make a deal with whoever holds the rights, in this case Paramount - I'd expect they'll pay more or use the fact they sponsor the nix as leverage to get the nix to partially top up anything over what they want to pay for the NZ rights.
I dont see/hear anything about spark or an NZ provider other than Sky wanting to televise the a-league.

Surely this deal only exists with the rights holders at the time. The contract was voided with covid so I can't see a world where the new broadcast contract would be forced to follow the terms of the old one.

Do Sky arrange a broadcast deal with Fox/Paramount or do they arrange a deal with the A-league directly?
If it's the latter i don't see any reason the Australian rights would impact them.
If it's the former then yes, there would be no deal in place

Well fox bought the rights and they also produce the games and then they sell the rights to other markets. If the a league could peddle the broadcast to each different market they would probably have to produce the games themselves. Sky was good for fox because even though they didn't pay much they produced all of the home nix games. The epl works the same being the most famous example of a broadcast deal and football.
