I can't remember a game I've looked forward to less...

Hopefully Ben Old gets a start or decent minutes, to provide something interesting about the match.

It will also be worth watching if Rufer scores his first goal, it has to happen one day right?

Does this game have any bearing on our FFA cup draw and what round we enter at?

Only the bottom 4 have their FFA Cup place affected - we're safe unless we get spanked by 5+ tonight.

Ben Old's on the bench for Lower Hutt at Fraser Park tonight, unfortunately.
Central league must be better than the A-League then if he is only on the bench!

WeeNix up 1-0 after 5min, hard to argue with the selection so far!

Seems almost that the FFA Cup is more of a burden in recent years that takes them to Australia at the very start of preseason. Haven’t we only won one FFA Cup game? Last two seasons lost to Bentleigh and Brisbane Strikers, and just created a whole lot of consternation that our imports are busts (think Dávila being written off and David Ball’s two missed penalties). I suppose that Bentleigh game gave Ben Waine his debut and Strikers gave Callum McCowatt a debut goal, other than that...

you don't know how much I wanted to see Paulsen given a debut today. On the bench for Lower Hutt as well

Feeling an Alex Rufer screamer, Ben Waine hat trick and Oli Sail 90th minute bicycle tonight.

Only 1 win in the FFA cup sounds correct. I know we have lost to non A-League teams a few times.. Nix got second in the pre season cup once which is about as close as a team I've supported (Kingz/Knights/Phoenix) has ever got winning a trophy!

I'm feeling a Rufer goal too.

Would put money on it but the NZ TAB is awful, only offering $10 for him to score when he is 0 goals from 80 games!

Ball starting in a meaningless game when he has a strapped knee seems a bit dumb. Also, this seems like a perfect opportunity to give a guy like Old a serious run out - why the fudge is Ngoy on the bench>?

MacArthur line up is pretty weak none of their imports playing while we’ve got our strongest 11 on paper playing hopefully a big win to end the season then

He hasn’t really played for the situation has Talay, it must grate some of the guys who haven’t played in months seeing a guy strapped up starting again for a meaningless fixture. He’s likely never going to get a better chance to experiment players at this intensity without major consequences, why not throw a spanner in the works

Guess any goal celebrations tonight will be muted...quietly jog back to halfway?

It shows how well the team has done, and the attractive football we have played the last few years, that Bozza seems like a fan these days... it wasn't that long ago he was questioning what we offered the league, now he's very complementary.

maybe just maybe Ball wants to play, regardless of the meaning of the game he wants to be involved to finish on a high.
Plenty of time for the kids or unplayed players to show their skills in the preseason.

I can’t imagine many footballers not wanting to play every game, but it’s about managing workload, and man management to ensure players don’t get disenfranchised

workload? they have the longest off-season to heal/recover etc. As for the young guns they have to earn their time, If Talay doesnt think the rest are good enough to start then that is the way it is.

How have we not scored there? Davila been a bit selfish and tbh given the last few weeks performances I don’t think we’ll miss him as much as I thought we would

We can if we win/lose/draw AND One of the six teams above us loses 13 points for Celery Cap breach!

Ball does seem to be struggling with his knee, still gets into good positions and involved in the game but not sharp when moving.

We're finally starting to play to Hemed's strengths. It's only taken the large part of a season, but that assist was exactly why he's beneficial to the team.

the fact that he made that run from 40m out to score the goal would suggest he's feeling fine.

It's an MCL injury right? He's clearly not having any issues running in straight lines, got a great engine, but he doesn't look as dynamic in tight areas as he has been for us in the past.

Yeah, mcl. He is not turning as sharply and putting weight on his left leg in certain positions to control the ball and you can see him struggling a little.

I’m not saying we won’t miss him, he’s still our best player and we’ll for sure miss his x-factor but I thought we’d be a lot worse without him than what we’ve been
