it has me puzzled too

interesting that merrick and thompson both consider him to be an advanced midfielder.  i never thought so myself and assumed that he was being trialled as one of the two central midfielders.

furthermore, merrick has stated that he wants a midfielder who transition quickly from defence to attack.  thompson is exactly this sort of player.

big call ernie, i hope you have a marquee up your sleeve!

Happy with Ernies decision. European transfer window closes September 2nd. After that there will be players without clubs looking anywhere to continue their careers. Despite being low key on the import DM to keep expectations down, the club will be actively looking.


As for Thompson I don't think he was what we were after. Certainly reading the forums from Oz many thought he was very poor playing in a deeper CM role for the Heart. There were lots of comments about how he was not suited there and ruined any forward momentum. If we did not have Hernandez then maybe yes! but we can do better.

i think the free transfer window closes a month later, not 100% on that, but point taken

there are plenty of fish in the sea

i'm assuming that ernie has someone decent lined up
