FFA's new measures for Active Support areas

Season pass holders or club members or foundation members?

Judging by the comments no supporters from any club think this is a good idea. Fever are you going to be talking to other clubs supporters to join together in protesting this? Seems the only way, a complete united fan protest.

im pretty sure most the people in the yellow fever have membership, however we are also the most friendly bunch of active supporters who are pretty keen to get everyone involved. So is the FFA going to try make the yellow fever inadvertently act like douche bags against their will? how are we supposed to show new fans the excitement if first they have to shell out on a membership to just be part of the fun?

Any way to get figures on how many arrests/warnings for violence, racism, flares in the zone since season one? Will probably make no difference but stats are always handy

Seems like a crazy decision to me. Even worse the FFA claim this is to 'protect and enhance' such groups. I just completely fail to see how that can be true.

Okay. Official line:

We don't like these rules. Rules generally suck. These rules solve a problem that we don't really think existed.

But, we are heartened by this:

FFA is committed to working with each club to customise solutions based on their individual needs and their respective membership markets to comply with these conditions.

And we're prepared to wait until we've had a chat with the club before going off the deep end.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Then we can all turn our backs on the team (again WSW style)

How can they change conditions of membership after they have started selling memberships?

Hmmm. It's bigger than just the club though it's huge for the whole A league fan base. I also think the club are big enough not to throw their toys out the pram over a couple of emails, and I think they would be very understanding of how people feel so I think you are being a bit silly,  but if you say so.

By the way I've sent an email to the Guardian reporter to follow this up. After all it's one of the biggest things to effect fan participation in the league for years.

Much angst about this on the official A League facebook. Interesting comment from some WSW fan though:

Dimitri ViolentisPeople you do relies that this came about because active supporters from RBB and the south terrace wanted something like this in place. All the FFA have done is listened and good on them for doing so.

Guess we know who to blame then...

I dunno, it definitely does mean that active support areas will be more exclusive, therefore making it harder to grow them. What if you hold a season ticket in say, the Cove, and you want to bring a mate along for a game because he wants to see what it's like. Either he buys a 3 or 6 game pass (ie committing more money to something he's unsure about) or if you want to sit together you have to go elsewhere in the stadium. I can only see this hurting the size of active support groups, which is really stupid for the long-term future of the league IMO.

At least it sounds like the Fever will have some sort of workaround here

I agree with this, and think it is an over reaction, but the Victory and Wanderers supporters (and to a lesser extent Sydney) should really take a look at themselves and what they have done to cause the FFA to do this though.  Sadly there is absolutely no chance of this happening.

Been told it won't really apply to us. Causal people will still get able to get in. All they need to do is give their name when buying a ticket.

How does that work online?

How about transferring your tickets to someone else? (Guessing the answer is that security won't exactly be enforcing it or checking IDs)

So basically the restriction is completely pointless.

Practically speaking, yes it's not a huge deal.  But as a point of principle, why are football fans being treated like potential criminals?  Taking people's name when all they are doing is going to a football match has absolutely nothing to do with "enhancing supporter experience" or "protecting active support" and it should be resisted completely.

Oh yeah agree on that. Just trying to highlight it won't affect us much. Club has gone into bat for us, and worked hard to get this outcome.

I'd love to know whether it is even legal, seems to me like it infringes on the right to freedom of association

shouldn't we be fighting it with the rest of them Aussies then? Or are we not too bothered about fighting something on a matter of principle as long it doesn't affect us too much?

Its good that the club has gone into bat for us in relaxing some of these rules, but they can only do so much. Their statement earlier tends to show that.

It is a ridiculous thought process to go down. But I'm bored and it is an interesting thought.

they're asking some supporters to have to provide information and go through extra steps that other supporters don't have to provide, purely based on the category of fan we are classed as. That's the absolute definition of discrimination right there.

If you said that everyone who wants to go to a concert and stand up rather than sit down has to give us their name and telephone number, how would that go down? Not well I assume.  But because it's football everyone thinks it's ok.  But treating football fans differently from other sports fans is illiberal and immoral and it should be resisted completely.

This will mean that all fans within the designated “Home Club Active Supporter Areas” will have a valid season membership pass or shorter-term active area pass.

It's this line that I'm cautious of. If Phoenix implement this by allowing a single match Yellow Fever Zone membership then theres no angst at all from me. If FFA force them to offer a minimum of something like three matches for the shorter term pass then I can see it definitely stifling any potential growth that the Fever Zone may have.

Also, apart from the NT and the RBB, I feel sorry for Australian active supporters who FFA won't be as lenient on as they will with us. The Den, Yellow Army, the Squadron, The Shed and the Yarraside have never had the violence issues that these sanctions are aiming to cut out, so why should they be converted to members only zones? In some clubs it makes sense to do this, because the NT and RBB always say that it is outsiders who come into their areas and cause trouble, so this way will show that it is actually members that are causing all the issues.
