Disappointing game. Finishing is terrible as usual and we give Greenacre like 1 chance a game which is absolutely pathetic.

Ifill for me today, good game from Paston and the defence but everyone else just stuffed up too many chances. Daniel and Ferrente had two simple chances especially Daniel. Caceres looked promising.

Couldn't disagree with you more. Apart from the goal set-up Ifill looked below his best and was caught in possession so many times I began to wonder what was going on with him. The substitution explained that.

I thought Brown, Lia and Lochhead were fantastic today.

Paston couldn't have caught Dengue Fever if he was in an South American rain forrest today...

Saw a bit more from Lochhead Greenacre and Daniel. Only ones that popped up on my radar today...

The Daniel chance was set up by Ifill I think. Not to mention he made good runs must of the game, he is probably our best dribbler, beats many players. Brown would of been my second choice. Lochhead didn't impress me that much. He has his usual useless crosses though did look more offensive then usual. Durante also had a solid game made a crucial save early on. Greenacre needs to do more to get the ball. For me it seems we avoid passing to him close around the box where he could atleast have a shot but he rarely has shots in our games which is disappointing.

Always looking for the negative stuff in Paston I suppose.

I wont bother with any more Paston comments, but they were two critical saves in the 1st half. Also a very smart charge out to smother the ball before Fowler got to it. He did well.

Always looking to find the positive in Paston that doesn't exist.
Other than tip a Fowler free kick, he didn't do much right. Seriously dude, he spilled alot of ball. Check the tape. Thats not opinion, thats fact.

This is NOT going to degenerate in to yet another Paston debate or I'll just delete posts and get banny.

Paston made a bunch of great saves and was generally playing really well.  So so close to a clean sheet.

Ifill, get the goal up, created two or three other golden chances and shot just wide.

Honorable mention to Greenacre, Lochhead(finally, although it was his slack marking that let the goal in), Durante and Brown.

Ferrante's miss was terrible, can't really fault Daniel on his chances, the first one took a deflection and he didn't have much idea about it.

Anyone else think Caceres looked good or was that just me?

If Paston was under instructions to hit the ball long to Greenacre all day long he carried it out to perfection. There was a clear mismatch there with Greenacre only being outsized by a foot.

gave i to ifill, he played set up our only goal and missed a crucial chance after being knocked over. Brown missed a couple of tough chances, daniel should have taken his better - which came from an Ifill chance - I cna see Caceras taking Daniel's starting spot very soon.

Caceres looked very good in my opinion. He drew the foul in the box/edge of the box and went down but the ref didnt give it.

SO disappointed

I voted for Ifill, he played well and created chances.  Anyone know why he got subbed?

Paston needs to be put down.

Good play leading up to Bertos's goal, pity he did squat all after that.

Perhaps but then you could say that our defence would not be so organised or that he would not of gone out for that ball that Fowler would of got or made that freekick save due to his height...

A better keeper may of saved the goal we scored but not saved another chance.

Ifill for me too, but says a lot that he played 20 odd minutes less than everyone else and STILL got MOM.

Worryingly, we are starting to look as reliant on him as we were on Smeltz last season.

Culina? Porter? I would say they are relying on Culinas form mainly just like Adelaide does with Dodds form.

ifill for me, he is class - hopefully injury is not too serious

don't see that Paston deserves the criticism he is copping, and comparing him with Moss (or at least our memory of Moss) doesn't seem relevant - the only competion he faces is from Crowther (not from a melbourne player)

caceres brings another lad who is comfortable on the ball and has a bit of vision

troy hit a great diagonal ball on 80 odd minutes (thankfully, we didn't lose possesion from it)
i do think troy looks better coming on than starting

good to see lochy involved down the flank

stil miserable about the way we let that slip

Also suspect he played the last 10 with an injury that would normally have seen him off.

Everytime Paston gets the ball at his feet I'm very nervous.  I've been like that for a while because he strikes me as the type of goalie who could pull a Robinson and swing, missing the ball and seeing it go into the net.

I nearly passed out when he smacked a 'clearance' along the ground straight to a NQF forward.

I really didn't mind Paston as a back-up goalie, but as a starter it's just worrying and I hope Ricki is looking at other options for next year.

Positive:  Brown played well.  I've criticized him before when I felt he deserved it, but praise where it's due.  He ran himself into the ground and had a good opportunity to score which was only foiled by a good save from Henderson.  His distribution (from memory) was more than adequate as well.  Only Ifill was better.

Ifill was excellent (although he did get a little bit carried away for 20 mins or so dribbling to often and getting caught out.).

Lochead's best game for a long time.

Caceres did look good.

How does what you feel make him any less of a keeper? Because you get nervous (Without a justifiable reason i.e he has yet to make a error like this that has resulted in a goal) does not make him a less of a goalie and by no means should we be looking for a new one because of this.

Seriously sick of hearing your continual defence of Paston.  Just admit you're his wife/mother.  I'm going to say all I need to say in this post and leave it there, not wanting to hijack the thread.

I get nervous because I know he's below par.  Often he fails at clearances, booting them out (well inside our half), the one today along the ground, has flapped at many high balls in the penalty area this season.  Added to that he conceded a woeful goal against Sydney(?) last season that was just embarassing.  The goal he conceded against Jordan was terrible.  'That' catch of a high ball against Jordan - people said it was the light, maybe it was (can only give him the benefit of the doubt) but no other players seemed to be effected by it.

Crowther's certainly no better, just think we need a knew keeper.

You know he would have organised the defence twice as well as Moss though, if not more.

Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
We only need a new keeper when he is a result of us losing games. Also how can you say no other player was effected by the light when no other player had to catch a high ball like that?

I'll end it there as not to further hijack this thread like it seems to be every week...

Lochhead played his best game (going forward anyway) so far this season so i voted for him

Paston flapped a couple of times but also made several crucial saves

The simple answer is Lochead was having a sleep.
