Siggy for me. Gao played well in 2nd half after probably getting a rocket up his arse at H/T. Maybe he should be told [through an interpreter :-) ] that if he doesn't perform right from the start he's off at H/T .

He's a bit of a strop but at least he has pace and penetration, when he wants to he can rev the whole team up and get us rolling.
Siggy is solid, can get out of tight spots with techniques other than hoofing clear and has even began getting forward and delivering crosses. MotM no doubt.
McKain deserves a very worthy mention for moulding straight into the midfield role and played some great balls forward.
How the f**k did Kwa$nik get two votes he was rubbish, failed to block their goal (it glided stright betwen him and the post), barely played a trappable ball and strolled round the pitch slower than a legless deformed anteater.

Siggy played brilliantly, Gao had moments - in the second half.....Smeltz looked out of sorts for some reason, Kwasnik has to be benched, he lets a goal in by duckiing away from the ball - your at the back post why????? plus he did very little all first half.

He was out of position though. The whole point of guarding the posts at corners is precisely to guard against the kind of headers/shots that Queensland had on Sunday.
So as a defender in these kind of situations, you stay next to the post to deal with anything going just inside it. If Kwasnik had stayed where he was supposed to be, he would have been able to clear quite comfortably. But instead he took a step towards the middle of the goal, and then when the ball came towards him and just inside the post he was off-balance and out of position to deal with the header effectively. In essence, he made his job there much more difficult than it needed to be, and we lost the points because of it.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Durante, probably because he is just good old Mr Consistent. He defuses a lot of situations, one of those players that generally does a lot of work but doesn't get noticed.
Enjoyed watching Gao play, TBH its excellent to see our skillful players actually backing themselves and running at defenders, needs to happen more! Sure he lost the ball a few times but he looked genuinely dangerous heading in towards their box.
Siggy is such a mind ease at right back, very impressive also considering he's probably not the fastest player, just has great stance and strength, rarely beaten 1v1.

I watched him every game with Newcastle last year, awesome, this year not so good. Maybe i slightly exaggerated in saying hes the worst signing because Kwas is worse, but this year he has performed nowhere near what he did last year. He has only looked better recentely because Dodd has made him look good, Dodd does the organising, Dodd wins the ball. Dura makes aimless passes and gets caught out (like a few weeks ago when Zura ran straight past him to score because Durante couldn't mark well enough). So get you head out of you rear and notice that someone on his salary should be performing much better.

Dura has been decent in the defence. Not amazing, though he was one of our best players when we were playing terribly. His constant long ball has been very disappointing.

The only area in which Durante has disapointed me was in the early rounds when we were lacking leadership and our captain was struggling to provide it.

Kwasnik looked like he tried to get his studs out of the turf when the ball went past him. He will have had nightmares about it. I agree it should never have gone between him and the post.

Why is that? Why are we so scared of just having a go?
Is it a player head problem? A coaching problem? Lack of a second striker who will put the fear of God into the opposition? All of the aforementioned?
If Smeltz goes, we need two, have-a-go strikers next season. With a couple of skilled "hard men" who will consistently attack the opposition, we would be a very different team.
A team that scores goals, brings back the crowds and also the raw excitement that's been slipping away since the Nix originally launched.
Sorry, but I can't see the current sqaud creating that sort of turnaround. I'd love to be wrong, but...

The trouble with our strike force at the moment is we have one who can run and draw defenders away from the other - but he hasn't had a decent shot for the Nix yet, the other is our point man, seems nervous when he gets the ball to his feet and loses possesion - get it to his head and he's magic. We need to replace the older one with a young, quick guy, who isn't afraid to shoot when the opportunity arises.
