Burns deserved this award but credit should also go to Ernie as prior to him coming to us Nathan was pretty average.

Burns was one of the best prospects in the league while at Adelaide.

No, he was one of the best players. Him and Djite carved teams up.

He also scored Adelaide's first hat-trick before scoring our first.

He played for Adelaide from 2006 to 2008 and since then he has been average.  Have a look and see what he did between 08 and 14. I'm not disputing his ability, I merely pointed out that Ernie helped him a lot. Just to add that in two seasons at Adelaide he only scored 9 goals.

Oh, no doubt he had a few bad years - but that was mostly due to the team environments that he was in and injury issues it seems. Just making the point that he was already a very good player, especially in the A-League ; Ernie has done well to mould him into more of a striker than a traditional winger though.

That is exactly my point.

You said he was "pretty average" before coming to us, quite different from "a very good player".

He was very average in the 4/5 years before he came to us. Are you having a bad day or just looking to be obstreperous.

Obstreperous - one of the world's greatest words IMHO

Boo-urns.

Guess we will be looking for another not-a-striker then. Any idea how much the transfer fee might be?

Given there isn't an agreement with the Nix as yet, no... to the negotiation room (desk)!

When rumours of him to China were about wasn't there discussion that there was a July out clause on his contract if a club paid the Nix $X

From memory that money wasn't very much though, or am I wrong?

Could still probably buy a few hair straighteners, a nice entrance sign and large curved tv screen...

Bugger - we've got a lot of talent to recruit with our one import slot.

Very important we sign the right player there. Also quite concerned about our defensive stocks.

So if he goes we're going to lack some quality at the back, or up front. Not ideal.

Maybe with Rodriguez having a year of pro football under his belt and Mcglinchey getting a solid midseason we can make use of Roly as a defensive player?

never have understood talk of roly as a cb. He'd be the shortest cb in a league history. And why move one of our best players. Leave him where he is thanks.

Agreed. The lack of speculation concerning any possible transfers is quite concerning too when you look at the moves other clubs have made.

Bugger. Good luck to him, though; if it doesn't work out I'm sure he will be welcome back here.

Hopefully we get some decent cash for him and this is put back into recruitment / wages for a quality player.

It was always going to be hard for any A League club to hold onto a player who had a season that good. Not saying it was impossible, but just unlikely. Maybe we can use that spare cash to lure MacLaren (I know, he's probably off to the Tards)

Club seem very tight lipped about any possible new signings, or licence renewal. I hate this interminable off season

I can taste that wooden spoon already, in what will be our last season before the licence is pulled.

We have lost Cunningham and Burns and got no gains so far. As it stands we are a lot worse than last season. The positive is that the spine of our team (two centre backs, midfield) all remain the same. It is easier to slot in an attacking player I think. The problem is that we only have one visa spot now and that has to be used on a striker.

If you look around the league, most teams seem to be going backwards in the ead up to next season. City have taken big steps forwards while Adelaide and Victory are about the same.
