Oh how could I forget when we won the didnt finish below 7th in 4 years trophy
could have been mv who finished 10th, 12th and 11th those 4 seasons. Or jets that have made the finals once in the previous 15 seasons.
Jets is an interesting one for our fans as it seems likely they'll win this year, would we trade the last 15 seasons of Jets history with a title this season for ours?

Yes.

When will we win something?? 😞😓😩

Well I wonder if all the Chiefy knockers will continue to blame him or praise him for the results for the rest of the season?? Basic football skills like passing to another player of your own team, trapping a ball, heading a ball, FFS these guys are professionals and they let the coach down. The tactics were sound but the players inability to perform them is what cost us. The players need to man up. I don't want apologies, I want better, more professional performances.

So we have Chris till the end of the season. Names to be put forward? Well Chris is one, Ross or John Aloisi are 2 more. I'd love the coach from Heidleberg. They played some fantastic football.

And if we really want to wind AFC fans up, make an audacious bid for Corica.
Corica will chuck any approach in the bin.

We're now bottom of the league. Chief said he left the club in a better position than when he took over LOL. The delusion...

It’s also being something of a dhead to sulk and want to beat everyone involved in your club with a stick until they win. That’s a version of being a fan I guess. A bit of a miserable one though.

But look up the Soviet hockey team or North Korean golf records etc. Iday had those coaching techniques! They can get those trophies.

Top six? Did you watch today's game? Second half especially was a team that deserves to be bottom.

its a close league - imagine some decisions went our way, like the 3 pen decisions in recent weeks and if we had scored them we would be 4 points higher - we don't miss the pen against City and then 6 points higher. That would put us sixth alone. You don't want to be reliant on ref's decisions but just indicative how one off decisions or one off moments can have an impact - we haven't been blown away (apart from AFC) in recent games and in the contest, maybe some luck or a slight upturn in form will result in more points being picked up.

True, little moments and a bit of luck can have a surprisingly big impact on a season (I'm especially thinking of a certain missed penalty in the last minute against the Jets two seasons ago) but as the old cliche goes "the table doesn't lie". If your defence is solid you don't have worry so much about the bad luck or lousy officiating. Unfortunately our defence is a dog's breakfast.

True but if every team also did say if we had x y and z happen the league table will probably be the same.

that penalty miss against the jets in the end wouldn't have changed the outcome of the season - we would have been equal points but 2nd on goal difference, more i think it was maybe bk not closing down doka, or doka just not scoring, very late against ccm.

Yep, I still have nightmares about those 5 metres. I was on a bullet train platform so I’ll never forget it.

I had it as Conchie not stepping up.

But the nightmares are of the pub running out beer after I’m six drinks in, rather than being chased through a forest by a mob of zombies post-apocalypse. Some nightmares aren’t the same…

And then with Victory a guy who hasn’t scored in a decade hits a worldie. Phhhh.

And on officiating there’s different levels. However, that’s several times the VAR has essentially taunted us and ignored the rules of the game.

That’s two penalties given by the on field referee which weren’t clear and obvious errors overturned. Some referees would have given those. There is no cause for VAR to get involved.

That’s different to not getting the rub of the green. We got the rub of the green and the VAR said, no you don’t get that.

His biggest regret was not win the title? What about almost two abysmal seasons? My biggest regret this year was reading this interview, I should have known it better.

Hmmm. Not winning or absolutely trashing that legacy?

I think I’d regret the immense drop off more and losing fans and the dressing room.

I think missing out on a title is a fair enough regret when you remember how close we were. If we'd won that game against the Mariner near the end of the season we would've gone on to win the premiership

It's one of his typical replies. Talking about regrets no winning the title, excusable stuff, shit happens. Then got a second chance in the second season and delivered nothing. I think it's OK to not go to deep into stuff if he does not want to, but he plays the self reflection, being honest playbook all the time and ignoring two season of total failure and bringing. It's not hate, I'm just fed up with this guy.

You sure make it sound like hate with the venom with which you continually talk about him with.
Do wonder have you ever taken the time to have a chat with him in person or is all your saying just got from what you read or hear. From my dealings he certainly isnt the devil you and some others paint him out to be.
Also i just dont go with ALL the blame being laid on him at some stage players have to take some responsibility. Also if people dont think injuries and illness played a big part in derailing his seasons they are kidding themselves.

Its one of these things where would you rather be wsw or the jets, hardly making the finals (1 in 16 for jets and 2 in 10 for wsw iirc) but have won things (jets could win this season) or us making the finals 5 out of 7 and if things go our way 6 out of 8.

i think some people would prefer winning a title once in our existance over being in with a chance multiple times. The Jets and WSW have one the title, sure they've been awful in between. Unlike us who have been good enough to to earn a place in the finals but ultimately are there just to make up numbers.
I'd have liked us to have won a trophy of some sort in our short history, but I'm also ok with being in the finals where anythign can happen.

A postmortem on Italiano...
IMHO, on the plus side, he is an honest genuine and honourable person who loves the game, thinks deeply about it and, as an amateur player only, was thrilled to have the opportunity to coach an A league team. To his credit, he quit when he thought he was no longer right for the job.
From many sources, he left the squad in good heart despite poor results.
In season 3, he was unlucky with injuries, narrow losses, and, in what was a close competition, with a bit of luck could've ended the season as coach of a top six side.

Was he a good coach though? Overall, without checking the stats, probably average results.

I'm wondering if he and Griffiths were a good combination, until their apparent falling out in season 2. Griffiths organising the defence, and Italiano keeping morale high. Maybe Italiano became overconfident in himself after a good season, backed his own judgement and stopped listening to AG in season 2.

Neither did that well individually (Griffiths at Perth and Italiano this year, and last, if you believe Griffiths was disaffected /sidelined and not contributing much in season 2).

IMHO he failed to properly recognise and use young talent. His selections were sometimes poor and that cost points. I think under a coach like Milligan, we'd have seen a lot more of Loke and LBS, and less of Sheridan and Conchie, who are solid but not possessed of gamebreaking skill. And more of the KHs, less of McCarron and Edwards.

Not fielding your best players is a major failing. Good man, but not a great coach. YMMV.

Chiefy deserves no credit for only walking when his position was completely untenable. He would 100% have been sacked if he didn't resign.

And in fact, he spoke in the immediate post match interview after the third derby final whistle as though he was going to stay on before announcing in the presser that he had resigned, and one has to wonder if he was actually told "resign or you're sacked" before he actually did resign.
