Forgetting the chaos of the second half... where were we at in the first?
The answer.
We were poor. No creativity and little threat! That's on him.
Last week was good. Three around that poor!
Okay so if thats on him,who was it last week on. Agree Chief needs to take SOME of the blame. Not sure i get why the players arnt getting called out. Wasnt Chief who grabbed Cosgrove and gave away 2 penalties. Pretty sure its not Chief who isnt taking shots on goal or making stupid challenges or giving the ball away constantly, failing to find a team mate with a pass or not marking up and making a tackle. ALL thats on the players but it seems everyone only wants to blame Chief.

Wow bro you have to stop clutching pearls over what is clearly a joking turn of phrase. I am shocked you haven't heard the phrase before - even my 70 YO parents have. And no, we do not live in Welly...
Did you clutch your pearls over the Port's post too? That definitely has an aggressive tone to it and is meant to get Welly fans angry. Perfect response by Chief to pay it no mind at all - maybe take a leaf from his book man
You must see the irony in saying that while posting on a 15 year old account that has 4.4k comments on it. That's nearly a post a day for 15 years my guy 🤣. Probably two posts a day considering the season only runs half the year.
To add to that a lot around here seem to think you're an AFC supporter in disguise. You're probably posting on the AFC FB page or whatever they use too
For the first goal, the acres of space Elliot could put Rogerson into after LKH made the mistake and let him get past him with ease was there because there was such a high line. Mistakes like that LKH one aren't so devastating when you aren't playing such a high line.
we were just attacking, the broadcast didn't show the entire build up to the goal live because they were trying to show a replay of our chance, so there is space to attack. Rogerson receives the ball close to our box after our defence had been back tracking the whole play, and because we had been just attacking our midfield hasn't gotten back to fill the space behind our defence.
Screenshot_20251207_094116_YouTube.jpg545.85 KBLook at this image. LKH's aggressive press at LWB sidestepped with ease. Edwards realises how much space Rogerson has to run into and is sprinting backwards to no avail, all while playing two of their players onside while the rest of our high line are left in the dust. How has this goal got nothing to do with a high line?

It was from a corner, that's why LKH was at LWB and out of position. Our defence gets back in the end and have the attacking players just about covered man for man but no one picked up Brook.
0-5 in a derby is a serious blight on his cv, and if he were to go to a new club in a more cut-throat league, this will no doubt be something that can impact him and his credentials.
Not sure I agree. That is an artificial statistic, based on geographical "proximity" more than anything else. If this is a metric, no CCM coach should be forgiven for regularly losing against Sydney FC; those two clubs mirroring somewhat the disparity in size and money of WPX and A-FC. Of the 50+ games to date between CCM and Sydney FC, Sydney won half of those while CCM won 15, the rest being draws. And that is since the ALM inception, with the ups and downs over all that long time. How long has our "rivalry" with A-FC been going for? Five games? Give me a break. I do not care about a losing streak in derbies but I do care how we play week in and week out against all teams. Italiano will not have a black mark on his CV for losing the derbies, but if he has a second bum season in a row in three years, after an excellent first season, that will create a mark on his CV. It is actually worse than that: it will make people like me think that our wins against Brisbane or Adelaide this season were more of a failure by the opposition to win, than our own good performances. It also suggests that someone like Corica knows how to play against a team coached by Chiefy every time, and that Chiefy has no answers. If we get a pasting next weekend from the improving Newcastle Jets that would worry me more than losing five derbies over two seasons. It would worry me as badly as our loss against Macarthur two weeks ago.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
I think Cheify had to win at least 1 of the games against Adelaide or Auckland after that MacArthur loss or else I think he would've been sacked if we lost both. The next 3 games before the new year are all winnable and if we win at least 2 of them we're keeping Chiefy until we have a bad run of form but if we get 3 points or less from those 3 games Chiefy has to go.
How do you realitically do that while sitting in The Port or Fever Zone? Enthusiastically celebrate Rufer’s goal? Wear your Nix jersey? I support both teams too and the derby games are very uncomfortable for me. I don’t sit in active zones anyway and its relatively easy vocally expressing balanced appreciation elsewhere. In the first ever derby, there was this obnoxious AFC supporter in fron of me and at the end he was standing up and being a wanker. Someone knocked his AFC hat off his head and he said “what's wrong? I’m only supporting my team”. I said to him, no problem with that mate, but show a bit of class. There seems to be lack of class with a lot of the more vocal Port group. As an aside, it pisses me off that the Port really push The Port angle rather than the AFC angle, they seem to support themselves mire than the club.martinb

I'm a bit surprised some people can genuinely support both, but good for you if you can and do. I think you've answered your own question a bit there, somebody who supports both absolutely does not belong in the active support section of either team

It was the first football game for my daughter and her previous sporting experiences overseas have been active sports zones and she wanted to experience it here after watching on TV. Went to the front row so wasn’t too in the thick of things. It was good to see what it’s all about.
Was fairly impressed as it looks the port help security. One of the obvious leaders was called down by security as they tried to identify someone in the crowd they wanted to take out which took around 10 minutes, That occured so it looks like they are trying on that side of things.
I think his crime was vaping.
And no I didn’t wear an AFC or Port kit or chant Chiefies getting sacked in the morning.

New Perth temporary coach Adam Griffiths has overseen three wins in a row, lifting Perth from the foot of the table to fifth. As defensive coach for the Nix two seasons ago, he oversaw their best-ever season, an unexpected result built on good defence, with a weak-on-paper team. I've always wondered how much Griffiths was responsible for that result, and it now looks like the answer might be 'quite a lot'. And Italiano correspondingly less. Would be interesting to hear Wooton's thoughts. Griffiths seems an unusual guy, in manner and presentation. In this post-match presser he gives a long obscure analogy about mountain goats and a lion, reminiscent of Cantona's seagull story. Probably doesn't present well at interviews, but maybe has a very good understanding of the game. I hope Perth gives him the job. https://youtu.be/b0vJBrPVxnA?si=opyjhelD_aD-Fy6n

That’s actually pretty cool that they give supporters the opportunity to get involved like that - if the Nix put out a call for match-day volunteers I’d be up for it just for the experience.
Good point. Perhaps he had less say. Surman absent too. Either way, will be interesting to see how he goes at Perth, if given the chance. Bullion

There are a heap of people who volunteer and do a number of jobs match day for the Phoenix. Also its not just match day either.

You've got the wrong guy. This is my first contribution to this thread. I was in the 'one good year, one bad, let's try a third camp', and have not criticised Italiano ever before.
IMO Perth's performance under Griffiths is interesting and raises questions about who was responsible for Nix's success two years ago.

this is chiefy derangement syndrome, anything good is not because of chiefy but everything bad is.
But Griffiths was right there during last season's disaster. How does that failure reflect on him? Not his fault, only Chief's? Suggesting that Griffiths role as assistant was what gave us success in '22-'23 is a bit fanciful. You could just as easily say that Chief being assistant coach under Uffie when we made the finals two years in a row raises questions about who was responsible for the Nix's success back then.
Let's see how Griffiths goes across a full season or two coping with a multitude of coaching challenges. It's great when you are winning but when you aren't you are right in the cross hairs.
I wrote, but didn’t post yesterday about ‘toxic positivity’! I don’t think the Nix are that, but there’s certainly the other way around too.
A positive feedback loop and a negative feedback loop. Positive where the fans lift the players and they grab a 3-2 and a 3-3 and in turn the number of fans increase. Or the fans respond to Rufer, Josh, Armeinto and Eze and that lifts LKH, Sheridan and the less demonstrative characters.
The Nix, statistically, might never win in my lifetime. That’s a long time to be down on your team all the time.
I think we need some new chants, based off some bangers from NZ or overseas and to get right behind the team and enjoy having a football team.
I don’t think it’s always a disgrace to lose to a strong team. It’s disappointing when the refereeing kills a great contest like the one that was there was when Rufer scored this week. I know not everyone thinks that way, but I’m allowed to be a bit one eyed about the team I support.
Again, I seem to recall there being whispers from early on in the season that Chiefy and Griffiths had fallen out, am I just making that up?
Entirely true. Griffiths stepped back totally from coaching about halfway through the season after a fallout with Chief. Not just Griffiths but the entire coaching staff (save for the strength and conditioning guy) who all left at the end of the season after falling out with him...unless you believe the narrative that was pushed that they all just wanted to go back to Aus.
Yep, the only two who remained were strength and conditioning and the assistant analyst. I'm happy to say that all the coaches at the moment haven't fallen out with him (yet)

Nice story shame some of it isnt true but you and others continue to bang on about it. Way past time some of you buried it and moved on. Im guessing that must have been Adams twin brother that was at the trainings i attended later in the season because it sure looked like him running them . Also spoke to one of the guys and he said he wanted to do some OE while it was also known another of them girlfriend was over living in Wellington. But im guessing that stuff dosnt read as well. There is no doubt there was tension FFS we were having a shocker but really some of the stuff flying around is pathetic. No doubt about what someone else posted its all Chiefs fault when things are shark and his assistants are the reason when things are going well.

I see Ballane has already replied.
But I remember someone else else saying they watched a Nix training 2nd half of last season, and Griffiths was still actively hands on involved.
As Martinb says no one around the club was likely happy last season. Chiefy openly admits he got very down on himself. There would have been grumpy agruments all through the club. Unnatural not to be.
Nix had a great defensive season 2023/24, and AG rightly got some plaudits. I think he also did well at WSW season 2022/23 (WSW lowest GA in the league?).
But Nix also had Paulsen & Surman 23/24. Hard to exactly quantify who gets praise and in what measures.
Maybe Griffiths spun one story too many about lions and mountain goats and the usual genial Chiefy lost his rag!!
I mean Cantona's seagulls like, it's both head scratching and amusing the first time. But not sure I want to hear such yarns at work every day, esp if it was straight after a 5th consecutive loss or something. Maybe AG's fables have a touch of Ted Lasso, and do eventually come around to making a succinct motivational point.
Anyway he's the new boss in Perth, Italiano is chief at the Nix and we wish them both well, with victories over testy Uffy's SFC.
