Mulligan played great in the pre-season? Eh?

Allegedly was MOM in CHCH

I can't recall anyone being better than Mulli in that game, he played as an OK central mid and TBF everyone else was probably a bit worse.

You saw the Mainland game?

All the pre-season games I've seen this year, he looked like his normal self.

I did, and am glad my trip south wasn't specifically for it because it was pretty damn dull.

I like most others, I haven't seen enough pre-season (i.e. none on nz tv) to make a punt at the line up and I'm not going to do it on match reports/ last season's viewing alone.

I am going to state that I happily put $10 down at the ods of $3.50 via the NZ TAB.

Come on Phoenix!

I saw the Mainland game, and he was the best Nix player.

It was a crap game though ... really boring ...

after all the close season transfer angst - we do seem to have a decent squad (not that The SMH or bookies seem to agree)

be interesting to see who doesn't travel (apart from Chen -who i expect won't be considered for this 1)

Mulligan, Ferrante/Diego, Rojas and Chen probably won't travel IMO

Played really well in Christchurch.  Control of the midfield, distribution etc couldn't be faulted.

Unfortunately the game sucked.  Ben Sigmund punching some guy across the head was awesome though.

Vignaroli signed today on a 1 year deal. 442 just jumped the gun like usual. He's a very, very classy player from what i've seen. Will make this game a lot harder.

Ferrante should start ahead of brown, with the attacking players at our disposal we would be doing our chance only harm in having to dm in the middle of the park. We need a link between the flanks and to toe strikers.

This will be Ferrante until Diego is fully fit.

Possible, given i read somewhere ricki refer to mckain been used in the backs, brown could be our dm and the sea monster could push out right. Afterall isn't he a rb turned cb?

Mulligan, Chen, Rojas are the pobables. And then I don't know about Diego, he probably will travel, wonder if we will bring an extra man over for late decisions..?

there was good coverage on the news tonight from tv1 and also, crowd goes wild. some funny questions fired at greenacre, ifill and diego.

there does seem to be some good excitement with the media, players and fans. probably the best circumstances we could have, underdogs, modest but still quietly confident.

Have been slamming it into my mates faces for the last couple weeks. (The FIRST GAME FEVER at the Four Kings) And surprisingly a lot are quite keen. Though i think its more the fact of free beer rather than the game, but hey it cant hurt.  (unless the phoenix begin badly, but when they win 5-0 well have a few more supporters)

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Surprised no Costa - I guess we will go to a 5 man midfield if Greenacre or Ifill come off.

I'm picking a starting midfield of McKain, Hearfield, Diego (playing just behind Ifiii and Greenacre) and Daniel.

I get a sense (I hope) Herbert will be a bit more attacking minded this year - to be fair with Ifill, Greenacre, Chen and Diego he has a lot more options than in the past.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Disappointed Costa still isn't getting a chance. Not suprised, though. Still think Ferrante is a bit of a waste of space.

Almost just posted a word for word response.

I guess if Diego is a bit tender, then Ferrante is the natural sub.

But I would have preferred an option involving the young guns.

I know, I know, its serious!

This selection definatly suggests to me a more aggresive outlook from RH. I can see the defensive players (usual back four plus mckain in front of em) all getting a start meaning that we will have a pretty attacking focused bench. Still dunno who it will be though... its good that we get stuck for choice because of too many great options

I honestly think that Rojas could do more to lift the team off the bench than Ferrante or even Daniel. Obviously it was never going to happen though. valeo2009-08-07 15:40:57

Rojas is always going to be questionable as a traveling player due to his age and schooling requirements. Once school is over maybe, but for now I think he will be a home game hero

Yeah, good point actually. Giving him his debut away from home would just be silly. valeo2009-08-07 15:50:31
