NEWCASTLE Jets have been plunged into a fresh crisis with prospective marquee Fabio Vignaroli set to walk out on the club after contract talks broke down.

Vignaroli had been keen to sign a three year deal to stay in the Hunter but Jets management refused to budge on their one year offer.

Are they gonna have 11 players for the game?

We struggled when the planes had nine at home last year.

haha very true. The more mayhem they have in their camp, the better. I think the Jets have a chance to come good later in the season, but not by Sunday hopefully

Tarek Elrich i suppose is their key danger man. And Sasho Petrovski can score goals the wily old goat.

I think bet365 is offering $3.75 for a phoenix win. get your money on now

Elrich always plays well against us. Ljubo is a good player, too, for sure.

Normally Dodd would be axing him left, right and centre.  Vince Lia...here is your time to shine.

Good chance for an away win! We seem far more settled and ready to go.

Bring it on!

Yeah Elrich and Petrovski can be dangerous. McKain can take Elrich out of the game me thinks

My team

Paston or Crowther

Muscat - Sigmund - Durante - Lochhead

Bertos - McKain - Brown - Daniel

Ifil - Greenacre

Bench:

Paston or Crowther
Barbarouses
Lia
Hearfield

But for first home game would prefer something more like:

Paston or Crowther

Sigmund - McKain - Durante - Lochhead or Muscat

Bertos - Brown - Diego - Daniel

Ifil - Greenacre

Bench:

Paston or Crowther
Barbarouses
Lia
Hearfield

I understand your idea of playing Diego in the home game for more attack, but why would you want to shift Mckain into the backs as well? I think when you put Sigmund out there, you kind of limit the attack from the back, but we would have one hell of a defense there.

Although Muscat doesn't offer too much up the flanks... yet

-Puzzle--Ange---Ljubo---Takka---
-----------------BK-----------------

Bench:
Naidovski
Kaz
Young (gk)

Really should pick up 3 points here. I know it's the first game and we are away, but Noocassel look well Walt Disney.

I don't care what the Australian bookies say, I think we should be very confident about this one.

Our defense can handle Petrovski. Sean Rooney shows promise but is still very early days. Milicevic is good but Nikolai Dopey-Statue is the most overrated player in Australia.

sh*t maybe we should have a look at that guy...seems to be pretty good. offer him 2yrs we could then have a 4-3-3 formation starting...

If Ifill is so keen to play up front, then I am quite happy to put him there, he knows that he has to make sure that he is aggressive there, and will want to prove that that isthe position he should be playing. If hes in the mids/wings, we risk losing that desire in him. To tell you the truth, the only position I seem to think is in any way up for contention (as we have seen many times through many position predictions) is whether or not Hearfield will be starting or not. From what I've eard he has done well pre-season, and i know he was making great progress at the end of last season, so I think he may have made it his own. However we do have great depth in midfeild at the moment, especially with Diego's health concearns out of the way. In summary, I think your second prediction is by far the better choice of the two... although I still have some post-confed cup concearns regarding brown...

WOW!! very depleted, but still danger in that side

Yeh - sounds like Ifill may not have the pace he had, so put Hearfield on the right and move Ifill up front for Chen.  No problem with that.

But surely we want Diego on the field and it's hard to fit him in without Brown missing out.  To say nothing of Daniel, Ferrante, Rojas.  I'm expecting Lia will be in the travelling side for versatility and cover for the back and will get a run at some stage to see how he goes at the back.

Then
Paston
Muscat Sigmund Durante Lockhead
McKain
Hearfield Brown/Diego  Bertos
Greenacre Ifill
and the subs become
Crowther, Lia, Brown/Diego, Barbarouses (some cover for the wide mids)
Not travelling - Daniel, Ferrante, Rojas, Mulligan, Chen

They have pretty good defensive line but I think we can exploit the lack of pace with Costanzo and Topor Stanley isn't very good at right back. I'm expecting at least a draw out of this..

Paston
Muscat Sigmund Durante Lochy
Hearfield Brown McKain Bertos
Greenacre Ifill

This will almost certainly be the side, I would think.

As far as the bench goes, because of the "lack of pace with Costanzo" do you think we should be looking at the younger guys to come on and make an impact?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Well based on valeos line up which is probable, you would think we would have Costa on the bench, Daniels unlucky not to make the lineup, and Lia would be cover for lots of areas. but then you do have Diego too. Costa/Daniel/Diego would be a very offensive bench and we would have to rely on McKain to drop back if needed. Otherwise this will be a hard pick.

Maybe Daniel starts as an attacking midfielder if he can handle that? atleast our strikers would have a chance to get some ball. Would mean dropping Brown though

This may be the home option.

Valeo is pretty close I reckon. I would think Daniel, Costa and Lia on bench (with Reece) would cover most options.

I know, I know, its serious!

I don't nessisrily mind if we have to drop McKain back in an emergancy, he has said he prefers defence. This does give us more attacking options on the bench. I am hoping we will b a bit more aggresive this year

                       Paston
Lia       Sigmund        Durante      Muscat
                       McKain

                       Ferrante
Bertos                                     Hearfield

               Greenacre        Ifill

Subs:
Crowther
Lochhead
Barbarouses
Diego

I left Lochhead out because he, like Brown, have been abysmal since part-way through last season.  Muscat can play on the left so he covers Lochhead and this opens space on the right for Lia.  Ferrante in the middle as he can play good balls through to players but he can also get back and defend when necessary.

wow - its safe to  say we have a lot of depth this year. I mean we still have Mulligan as a midefielder option where he played great in preseason. And Rojas on the wing will be hard to ignore. I feel like almost all our players will be hotly competing for spots because I don't know if there is anyone who we can just keep out, maybe Mulligan, but I don't know there

Topor-Stanley's not in Noocasle squad. But agree, that's the most likely starting line-up.

Mulligan played great in the pre-season? Eh?

we have a good squad this year, I reckon better than last season, also seems that the attitude of the imports is vastly improved on last seasons.

We have to go in confident for this first game or the season could well be over - with the bookies picking us as wooden spooners - a few early wins will change that dramatically.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Yeah, the only players who I wouldn't really want to see start are Mulligan and perhaps Ferrante + Lia. We've got a small squad this year, though, so that might have something to do with it. Quality over quantity.
