Clebs, who actually did well at centre-back IIRC.

You do not remember correctly.

Firstly I have to agree with Robb that we only need one of Mos and Paston as it's not good for NZ Football to have only one playing each weekend. Until we have a reserve team set up it's going to be difficult but when we do (hopefully next year) I'd like to see young Kiwi keepers getting time on the bench and in the NYL. I definately don't thi k Spoonley should ever have been axed.

As for Coveny I think that it's (of course) time for him to retire from pro football, and I'd love to see him signing for Team Welly, as unlike Aloisi I'm pretty sure he doesn't have any sort of chronic injuries preventing him from playing decent football of some sort.

Other than that I think that for next season we don't really need all three of Christe, Lia and Mulligan, so one of them should probably go.

I'm more than happy for Kwasnik and gao to be resigned if they pull their fingers out now and start playing to the potential we all know they have. Having said that I probably wouldn't keeep them both as we already have them + Daniel, Hearfield, Costa and Bertos and some of them (ideally ones that don't have another year left on their contract) need to make way for 1 or 2 creative midfielders plus a few strikers that need to come in.

I've tried not to say that anyone should definately be chopped yet as we have over half a season to go and no players who are that stink on paper. Agreed that this thread isn't the wisest either so I'll just add a IBTL for good measure

Hmm, I was hoping to be able to poke fun at you but you speak much sense for a midgit.

Good work.

Kwasnik and Gao will not want to stay.  Gao to be gone before season (or even week?) ends methinks.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Can't be bothered reading what everybody has written already but I'd ditch Gao, Mulliagan, Kwasnik (if he doesn't sort it out), Johnson, Coveny, maybe Paston and Daniel.

We need a youth team badly (and Joel Porter).  Hope you're on it Tony P

Preseason last season Clebs was god.
This was however before you jumped on the, already roaring, bandwagon

Its no longer a problem.

Shame some f**ker has snuck on the bandwagon and pulled on the handbrake this season.

I thought Clebs was ok at CB, but woeful at RB - and thats what I think he's most remembered for (on the pitch anyway)

And this is a great thread btw.

Yep thats the way I think as well. I don't think he was overly bad at CB but he got absolutely dominated against the Jets (I think it was the Jets, anyway) at RB.

Is anyone else worried that more of our off contract players have been snapped up by the new clubs, I'd like to see Dodd and Sigmund signed up for next season asap.

Any updates on the Lia injury?? Is he on the road to recovery or still getting over the initial injury?

I wonder if he would have made a difference to our performances?? Still thinking of ya vince.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

#8) Vaughan Coveny

Wouldn't actually cut, I'd plead for him to retire with dignity.

With dignity? That would have been 2-3 seasons ago, he's lost that dignity now.

I'd get rid of Coveny, Johnson and Mulligan (I don't care that he's got another year to go, he's utter rubbish).

The rest are useful in some way or another imo.

And Cleberson is a Phoenix legend. He should be re-signed for next season, perhaps as a player-coach to take over from Ricki.

Doubt it. He's an average player tbh and we got Muscat.

One player i don't think I mentioned but should go is Johnno, we have much better options in that area and a more creative midfielder should be a pretty direct relacement.

Is McKain on a 2 year contract at the moment? He has been quality since he was moved into DM.

Part of being supporters is second guessing the management HN.
I would give 1 year extensions to:Muscat, Kwasnik, Christie, Dodd, Ferrante.
2 years to :Moss,Sigmund, Daniel, Brown, Lochhead.
That means that Paston, Gao, Johnson,Coveny, Smeltz, Draper.

+1. if you were going to have a thread like this it would be better to open it towards the end of the season rather than right in the middle of it

So you are saying we should only discuss things here that will have an influence on Nix management? Then there would be nothing to discuss would there not?

Presuming it mean that they're the ones sisoko doesn't want to keep, on his selections we'd be stupid not to keep Draper and I'd rather keep Gao over Kwasnik.

If you don't like the thread HN, shut it down. Your the boss - pull rank!

on the actual topic - I'd say most of the squad will be kept, only question marks over Kwasnik, maybe Daniel and Gao?

Unless Daniel gets more playing time, I think he will go.

Paston will go because he will soon be replaced by moss and they will only keep 1 of the NZ keepers.

Dodd will probably go somewhere in Queensland unless we pay him enough to stay.

Coveny will not be resigned.
Johnson will not be resigned
Draper will go if not given more game time.

 Leilei Gao won't be resigned.
 Muscat  won't be resigned.

I've tried to stay away from this thread, but I have to say that we should definitely re-sign Muscat. He's showing a lot of potential.

Thank goodness the Nix management don't pay too much attention to you lot. If they did we'd turn over half the squad every season. If we did that you might as well get the super glue out now and stick us permanently to the bottom of the table.

Now that we have the basis of a decent squad we need stability to build a team. This means only making iterative changes each season that will make the squad stronger. As with most of the more sensible comments on this thread I'm not interested yet on discussing who we get rid of as there's still plenty of season left (however, I'm sure the club's already looking ahead to next season) but I would be worried if we were looking at getting rid of more than 3 or4 or at a stretch 5 of the current squad for next season.

Another point on this.

Two weeks ago, some people would have said Hearfield out, Ferrante out, Muscat out.  Now a fortnight later they have all played important roles in a win.  Who is to say that in a fortnight, Plodder, Richard Johnson and someone else won't do the same ?
