There are most probably legal requirements that the job be advertised publicly, even if an internal applicant or three is already lined up.

Everybody advertises on Seek and TradeMe, these days, don't they? We certainly do as it gives access to a pretty large number of people.

Why can't Greenie still play for the 1st team? "Sorry Greenie you were a lock starting and playing every game for us in 11/12 but 12/13 we can't find a spot for you?" That would be quite a swing.

Not sure we would want to waste an import slot on someone who turns 35 this year. Especially with only 4 slots and Sanchez and Ifill will take 2 of these. If you keep Greenie on as a player that leaves only 1 slot. Greenie is not getting any quicker...IMO his imput has gone down from the start of this season. Time to move him on to coaching.
I understand what you are saying and there is logic to it. I guess I would have expected to have seen his playing time weened down rather than the cold cut. It is a business pro football after all....

It may be being advertised to demonstrate that there is no suitably qualified or experienced New Zealand citizen/resident available for the role and that genuine attempts have been made to fill the position within the local market

I think I may apply

Go on.  You can help Ricki with streamlining visas for the import slots.

I've applied. I have presented my strategy on the way forward which includes new 5 year contracts for Leo and Tim and stated we should cut costs, get the fat out of the system and reduce our backroom staff. I think this will appeal to gareth and Ricky and get the application over the line

Why? So they shouldn't be getting the ad out to as many people as possible? If vacancies for neurosurgeons can appear on Seek, I don't see why an Asst Coach gig at a football team can't. I'm sure it'll appear in the print media as well.Where would you have put it? Capital Football's website?
Would have thought Ricki might have names of some people he'd like to approach rather than the position being advertised at all.

Isn't there some law that requires all jobs to be advertised. They also seem a little too public to just try to get around that one.

Actually, if that is the case, shouldn't all new players 'positions' be advertised?

Just saying...

While it seems some of you would rather the old boys network found a suitable candidate what if advertising on the internet attracted the attention of a well-qualified foreigner who Ricki and his (admittedly large number) of contacts didn't know would be interested?

Not sure about football coaching, but to bring in A Forign worker, you must first prove that you have attempted all avenues to locate a suitable person within NZ first. They may already have someone lined up from overseas and need to do this advertising to meet that criteria.

I agree - NZ being NZ (a country where people migrate to for lifestyle reasons), it's totally not unfeasible that there is a decent, qualified foreign coach out there somewhere who might just want to give coaching another shot. They may not have coached for years or be from a more obscure country - doesn't mean the Nix shouldn't be casting the net.

Good point - that is also very true. The company I work for has to do this all the time.

Wynton anyone?

As much as its not a silly idea to have Wynton involved, its been reported a thousand times over that the reason Wynton and NZF do not get on because Wynton wants to do it his way and NZF want to do it their way, which is invariably not Wyntons way. I think also there is probably not a dugout big enough to fit in his ego (rumour). Wynton strikes me very much as 'my ship and I'm the captain'

I don't think he would take kindly to being Rickis lacky with I guess how Wynton may view his own abilities compared to Ricki. Besides, Wynton likes sticking two fingers up when his kids catch on and make names for themselves, kinda like I told you so so I seriously doubt it would happen.

Shame though.

edit: I also think I like to see him were he is developing future talent. He bemoans the kiwi 1st touch and his kids generally have extremely good 1st touches which makes a massive difference so perhaps he is best left where he is in a development role

I talked to a former NZF Chairman a while ago and asked about Wynton and why he wasn't inviolved. He told me that when he took the job his first port of call was Wynton because he thought it made sense to have him involved. Wynton's demands included making Wyners the only recognised junoir coaching programme, a truckload of money and a guaranteed job for Shane.

As a different take to that, how would it be if Wynton had a role as head of junior coaching programmes at NZF?

Rather than sanctioning Wyners as the only recognised junior coaching programme, put in him in charge or making sure other programmes come up to his standard if they want to be sanctioned by NZF. Then effectively he could role out his teaching/mantra/programme/vision over the country but it wouldn't be his programme (Wyners) and his only. Other coaches would be involved but under his tutelage. He does produce some good footballers from the names I can see

(I hope that makes sense. Too many use of the word programme)
