Its going to be a roller coaster to the end of the season - possible upsets but also possible disasters. We have to chase wins to have any hope of getting into the playoffs - that will be high risk. I think there was an element of that in todays' result once we got a couple down - basically everyone had to push up which exposed all the weaknesses. Most of all our regular soft losses of possession while trying to play catchup against a team like CCM meant a blowout was always possible. That is the hardest part - we just kept giving the ball away and losing most of the contested balls. Players have to take the responsibility for basics like that.

There are one or two people on here that have grasped the problem, but most have ranted about what a disgrace and no effort etc and bagged players but the real reason is that across the board the players we have are not good enough.

All season most have bagged Paston saying he has coast us games, when if fact (and tonight is a good example) he has saved us time after time. Tonight could have been 8 were it not for him. I've nothing against Moss, but 'if it ain't broke. why fix it'

One of the things that was so obvious tonight and I have mentioned this for years is that we just don't have any pace. There are exceptions, Fenton, Boyd but this is where we get exposed all the time.

I was angry tonight but I at least accept that we were beaten by a far superior team and until we get rid of the baggage we have we will never be able to compete with the top sides.

good points leggy, but i think it's ok to bag players who neglect the basics week in and week out and then reach for their thumbs when the going gets tough

limited ability i can handle to a degree, but there's no excuse for a lack of bottle, especially from a bunch of fuckers who think they're pretty tough

I agree and I have bagged players in the past for lack of bottle, but I was just pointing out the reality that unfortunately we do not have the quality players to be anywhere in the top four, and it is easy to be critical, but it was like men against boys tonight.

I surmise from player performance tonight that they are trying to get Ricki fired.

We obviously need change and Paston has been conceding far too many to keep his spot. Moss is an obvious change.

Everyone has different opinions but here are mine.

1. Team simply isnt fit enough. Love to see beep test scores from some players.

2. Steve-O wants to bag Hogg. Ok at times he gave Ibini and extra yard to whip in a cross, however his work rate was exceptional. Go back and watch the game and see how many times he runs past Iffil to get back into position or make a last second ditching tackle. Ifill hang the boy out to dry and that is because Ifill is unfit and struggling in all aspects of the game.

3. Defending starts from the Front. Our top 3 dont work at all compared to CCM front 3. Far to easy for CCM to work it up the field.

4. Paston made some good saves but again his kicking was dredful and put back 4 under pressue when all they wanted to do is clear their lines.

5 Cernack was decent but again needs more quality around him.

6. Passing was awful from everyone. Do they practise possesion in trainings?

7. I cant understand how McBreen runs unmarked from a set piece.

8. Totori to play outwide. Can be fustrating but atleast ran at players and was lively.

My thoughts anyway.

good thoughts

totori's being undone by a lack of minutes and a lack of ball speed meaning he's left with three to beat each time

Fair enough, you have a point. Not ONLY blaming them, just sick of them being talked up like Rojas the 2nd coming when neither of the m could lace his boots.

Still only one point off the six (pending other results). If (and it's a big if) we can string three wins together against Adelaide Jets and Heart, we can still make the playoffs. Hence #dontstopbelievin, we won't win the playoffs, but let's at least aim to make them.

never saw boyd play asb prem. was he any good?

when you think of all the players that the asb prem has, what made boyd one of the 2 most worthy of a pro contract?

I'd rather not if it means another aimless defeat in Aussie but it allows Ricki to again say 'we made the play offs'.

Hang on, you don't want us to make the playoffs? That's a pretty negative attitude, even for you.

If he and durante can't get the defence sorted then naturally we will conceed goals, some of the goals we have conceeded have been down to poor defensive organisation, which Paston must accept some blame - it is broken, wither we cahnge the back four or replace Paston.

Sums it up.

I remember reading on here before the game that someone was scoffing at a 5-0 prediction. Depressing.
What's more depressing is that Cernak is our best player when he wasn't even a bench warmer at the Victory. Sad indictment on the rest of the squad.
Manny Muscat needs to put his hand up - this season, he has been quite horrid. (not that the rest of the team hasn't)

I think it's safe to say that the decision to play Manny at RB misfired spectacularly. I have not seen him all at sea like that since early in his career when Danny Allsop ripped him to shreds. We might have got away with just a 4-0 loss if he'd been in midfield.

Why can't we ever be the league leaders with our current squad and coaching staff?

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Permalink Permalink

I don't think we deserve to be anywhere near the top 6 come season's end.

It's a sad indictment on the league if a team playing like the Nix have for a couple of months now can make playoffs.

Back from the game-what a waste of $44- next season, ill save the money, stay at home and poke my face with toothpicks-will be slightly less painful and maybe less embarassing

Have been overseas since early November and am shocked on returning to find the shambles the Nix now seem to be.

Seem to be a side of about ASB Premiership level in their performance - too many players of about that level and not A-League level with two fading strikers in Ifill and Huysegems who were once a cut above, the erratic Brockie (despite his goals this year and last not always an influential player in a game) and the youngsters Fenton and Boyd who seem out of their depth and plodders like Lia and Lochead now well past their use-by dates...

Geez, even the previously reliable Pastie seems past it now.

Even early season I thought there to be an obvious lack of pace in that side and they seemed to lack ideas and creativity, especially in midfield. Midfield is pants and must be the worst in the league.

Am surprised that the defence has become such a shambles, as on paper there seem to be a few previously reliable performers there.

Don't like the All Whites' chances come November play-offs as they'll have to use some of the under-performing Kiwis in this side, especially in goal and fullbacks...thankfully we have enough decent overseas-based players to fill positions up front and  in central defence, McGlinchey and Rojas in midfield etc.

My own summing of the game (watched it at the Four Kings in Taranaki St) is that you cannot seriously claim that "this player" or "that player" or "all players" were rubbish. Unfortunately it is Ricki who is being found wanting at the level that the rest of A-League is now. Other than that, I am going to wake up with a headache tomorrow, recoiling at the mere thought that this season is not over yet, and there is more of the same to come.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I was calling it because looking at the line up that was put out, there was zero defence in the midfield. Not scoffing for the sake of it, actually looking at the formation, *facepalm*, 'there is no balance in that line up or defensive starch in the midfield which has been our problem all year', and then posted what should have been bloody obvious to all. A midfield 3 of Lia, Cernak and Fenton???? 1 can attack reasonably well, 1 can run and mangle an attack and another is a bitsa that has no real specialist midfield position. I would have played Smith instead of Fenton because Smith actually has some defensive capability vs Fenton's 'I'm gonna take the ball and run at everything'. When I also called it back on Tuesday after Pineys tweet about the formation, even News was talking about the TAB. Seriously, it was that bloody obvious

With out disrespecting your footballing knowledge, that line up had 'forgone conclusion' all over it and then watching the game, the CCM midfield had zero issues going forward at all because no one in our team knows how to or can shut it down.

We are the worst team in the comp. No question. And we will finish last. Perth have good players coming back/plus a reinforcement. This is worse to watch than season 1. Club has a real problem if they don't move RH on. We need a real A League winning coach. Ange and GA know how to put the jigsaw pieces together, and know which ones they need. Not always expensive either. Herbert has no idea about that, and is tactically struggling now. Only people in football that don't know this appear to be the owners. They should ask Ryan Nelson what he thinks of Herbert as a coach.
