I vaguely recall going there for the 10/11 Roar and Mariners games. Enough said.

I imagine it'll be pretty full. So perhaps being at your seat is a good idea.

This season we've moved around more than usual because people always seem to be sitting in OUR seats.

Say hypothetically, if one's child was to stay out later than 10pm, what exactly would the consequences be? I mean I'm no parent [for good reason] but what could it possibly be that makes this game an absolute no go for that reason?

Fuck this stupid game

We always stand by our seats, spot chosen for the fact there is usually room to buy extras come Finals time :)

It's just forum talk - ie over exaggerated bollocks.  There will be plenty of kids at the game because most parents, like me, know that our little darlings can cope with a 10.30-11pm finish time.  In fact that is a fairly normal Friday night for my younger kids (8 and 10).  Maybe they're a bit grumpy the next day - big deal - if you have teenagers as well (as I do) you won't notice any difference.

So just get to the game!

All this angst on Final Kick off time!!!

One thing that people should remember the Finals games are FFA controlled, hence the slightly odd ball time to make TV figures better in Aussie.  Most of this will be courtesyof an FFA Edict.

FTW, I am just over the moon that we have at least one home semi.

I'd get into worse trouble with Jazz Jr if i didn't take him.He hacked my e-mail yesterday and read the notice from the ticketing people. He knows. My weekend with him so Saturday is no problem.
I've also promised him an away game-never got round to it in regular season but if we get an away play off game then we'll be going to that too.Life's to short too f..k around worrying about silly crap.Home games with him have always been my favourite time of the year ; not messing with that now.

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/road-to-the-finals--are-phoenix-too-defensive-/46387

Wellington Phoenix are enjoying their most successful season yet in the Hyundai A-League, partly based on their obdurate performances away from home but are these the tactics that will take them to a grand final?

Theres no doubt Phoenix have ability in attack, especially when Paul Ifills firing, but some commentators have criticised the Kiwi side for being too defensive away from home. Is this right? Have your say below...

Yes, Phoenix can go all the way

Attackers win games, defenders win titles, or so the clich goes. I would argue Wellington Phoenix and coach Ricki Herbert would agree.

Few would have predicted Herbert could take the All Whites through a World Cup finals campaign undefeated, but he did and managed to turn the Phoenix from a club in crisis into a genuine championship threat.

How has he done it? By parking a big jet at every opportunity he gets.

Forget parking the bus, Wellington travel so often you may as well call it parking the jet and they do it with skill and aplomb, especially away from Westpac Stadium.

It may be winning ugly, but it works and has done wonders for the Phoenix.

Phoenix have scored the least goals of any team in the top eight, so should they get ahead in a game, parking the jet becomes a necessity.

They also have a solid enough defence to be able to have confidence in their ability to sit back and knock the ball away.

Andrew Durante, Ben SigmUnd, Manny Muscat and Tony Lochhead have experience and skill and with the dominating presence of Mark Paston in goal you get a solid unit that has had seven clean sheets throughout the season.

Phoenix have often parked that jet in the middle of the pitch; this year, they have beaten Gold Coast, Newcastle, Adelaide and Sydney by a solitary goal.

Odds are, if they play away in the finals they will park the jet - and it will work yet again.

No, Phoenix cant win it

Garbage. Phoenix might be conservative away from home, and rightly so, but they are no more defensive than the next A-League team.

Wellington are currently enjoying their best season in the competition, partly based on their success on the road something they havent been able to manage in the past.

There may be occasion for Herberts team to be defensive but claiming they park the bus is short-sighted at best.
Four wins, three draws and six losses thats pretty average as A-League away form goes; its only unusual because Wellington havent been able to do it before.

True, nine goals scored suggests they dont get forward very often but if theyve conceded 16 goals in 13 games away from home, I reckon theyve left the bus in the wrong car park.

Compare that to the 24 goals theyve scored at Westpac, second only to Brisbane Roar Herberts men look set to make the most of their home final.

But then it would most likely be a trip to Perth, the longest single trip in world football and a ground where Phoenix havent won since November 2010.

I dont know about you, but I wouldnt be betting on them to be very happy about making that trip.

mine, would be a nightmare the next day, he'd also be very tired and grumpy at the game which I imagine would disturn those around us.
also I notice the canes are playing the cheetahs on saturday at the RoF, which would have been influencial in our Friday night posting

I had a chat to Andrew Durante at Midland Park today, and he would have preferred the game to be on Sunday rather than Friday, so they could have the extra few days rest between the Mariners game and the final.

On the positive side, he said that it will give them more preparation time if they win and qualify for a second playoff.

The boys really do not want to have to go to Perth again by the sounds of it, but are not focusing too much on the Perth vs Victory game this weekend, so will be treating it like any other game and going out to win.

There are 7:45 and 8pm kick offs in many leagues and competitions around the world, MIDWEEK, almost every week, and I can tell you there are still plenty of kids at the games! Obviously it depends on quite how young, but some of these Kiwi kids sound a bit sheltered...#justsayinh

In the 2nd week of the play offs, CCM host Roar on Easter Sunday. Since the FFA like having the games on different days, I guess that means that other game might be on the Saturday.

So despite not yet knowing who is 1st and 2nd they have already decided order of matches?

Maybe both teams want to play in Brisbane first, but otherwise it seems odd.

EDIT: Just checked it out, and yes they have agreed schedule regardless of outcome.Turfmoore2012-03-24 13:15:33

Extremely diplomatic answer to follow. Those of you with a weak stomach turn away NOW...

The answer to your question is a simple one I-I-Iffy. I am of the belief that I have made nowhere near enough 600km+ round trips to see my beloved Wellington Phoenix FC play but if you were to ask this very same question to my better half i'm sure that she would state that I have been to more than enough.

The actual answer is 2 matches so far this season (Both ironically against Newcastle Jest as Mr Gooner4Life has already pointed out!)

Inform SHMBO that there are lots of shoe shops in Phoenix City, & she is more than welcome to browse them at her leisure (similar thing worked for me with Melbourne  )

Then cancel her credit card the morning of the trip

p.s I obviously didn't take Mrs Diddy to Melb's

Funnily enough it's the opposite here. I know I have made far too many journeys (and my liver will testify to that), but my better half said "phoenix game this weekend? Oh good..."

I hid the credit card.

Not entirely sure what population has to do with it. Point I am making is there always seems to be a lot of anxiety here about midweek games when such things are commonplace in most other countries...
