haven't they already had 2 goes? It better not leave Wellington, would be a massive mistake IMO.

I think the obvious choice is to move to Auckland

Am sure $100m should more than cover the cost of building one

Doesn't this sound like the last serenade for Terry Serepisos? It will be real sad if Terry falters over the WGA saga and losses the Wellington Phoenix.

Was waiting for someone to put a negative spin on it. Took surprisingly longer than I thought.

At least this should give prospective new players some certainty to help Ricki sign them.

Will be NQF in disguise then...prefer plan a and wonder if there is a better plan c. Boro4eva2011-03-21 14:43:35

Can you imagine NZ Football owning and running our beloved Wellington Phoenix? It will be a kiss of death. Look at the sad state of international calendar for AWs!!!

I love how a thread about a plan being set up to ensure the Nix keep going, has gradually spiralled into a wail fest. Gold.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

NZF ownership could only ever be a short term phase granting time for another backer to appear.

Fingers crossed.

Yes. It was. Sadly.

Sunday-Star times announce the future of the Phoenix confirmed. NZF and FFA have met and are committed to keeping the Nix up and running in the A-League whatever the outcome of Terrys financial situation.

So there we have it. We will have our beloved Nix playing next season. Either Terrys $100 million turns up or NZF will take charge.

I really hope that Terry and the IRD sort out there stuff ASAP. The club needs to move on. We have players and support staff to sign. This will send a big signal that it will be business as usual for the Nix next season.

Best news I have heard for months!!!!!
Ahem...................I did predict this ya know

Why don't we just build a stadium like what the Vancouver Whitecaps did, temporary 15k stadium. Took 3 months to build was cheap in context. Shame we don't have a rich owner.

Location would be a killer though Clarke.  A 15,000 seater by the airport (or an upgraded Newtown) is a different prospect to one near the main transport hub.

How do you resolve that?

Yes, lets build a stadium somewhere there is flat inexpensive land in wellington.

Can i suggest shannon as the best closest option?

Not much point building stands mind. Because no one will f**king go, because the westpac is in the right location, not shannon.

In any case, building a 15k stadium is f**king insanity. We have gates of 7-9k, not 12k+

Build a smaller stadium next to the Ring of Fire! (Melbourne styles)

Why does the future need securing before the 18th?

What money will NZF use to fund the $1 million plus losses.

Our football development money?

The license isn't an asset that century city owns...

Not quite as simple as that. The setup seems to be that on insolvency, the license reverts to the FFA. And the phoenix doesn't own it's interlectual property either- it is licensed to the club from the FFA, so again, if that folds, it reverts back to the FFA.

So what are the assets Century City Football actually owns/has? Nothing substantial as i see it.

Edit: and this is a bloody good thing for a slightly dysfunctional way the A-League is being run right now, as it is likely to preserve clubs while they wait for owners.

Yeah exactly. The FFA and NZF have then said they'll run the team.

What is the issue there?

That a portion of the $240 I pay for my 2 kids to play football this year is going to pay players like Toto & Diego. :(

Actually, i can sort of live with that, but we're talking about a season's grace a la NQF, rather than a stable operating plan for the nix in the future.

Of course, I am speaking figuratively, but the point stands -It will be an easy beat up story.

Interesting to see relative costs:

Local Rugby club - $45 a season, includes mouthguard, shirt, ball.
Local Football Club - $120 a season includes... um.

Plan b isn't ideal but NZF obviously think it's better than the alternative of there being no nix. I agree with them.

The 'assets' the nix bring are more intangible ones.

It clearly isn't a long term plan.

I assume that if Terry is bankrupted on April 18, then all these mysterious moneymen who've been saying for ages that they'd take over the Nix if the dodgy Greek were out of the way will surely come riding out of the woodwork on a white horse made up entirely of money and awesome. At least that's what I'm led to believe.

Hmm, that is the start of it, but i imagine they'll want to make like a female goalkeeper- prance around a bit, flutter their eyes, and then hold out for as much as they can get of the FFA/NZF.

Point is, don't expect anyone to walk in on day one.
