For Musa (age 27), the MLS may have passed him by. He does now also have a green card however. Could do a job at Nix as a DM, back up CB. Does he have the passing quality of a Mandi or even Kopa?

Does Musa have the passing quality ?. Check out this clip for a quality assist by him. Natural left footer too.

Back to the Ricki days?

Contender with Scott Basalaj, in the Handy Prem SF for best route one assist. At about 2.10 mins in this video

But yeah I'm be happy to see Musa back in NZ. From memory Nelsen highly rated his talent, back at the 2012 London Olympics. He basically said it would come down to Musa's attitude/commitment from there.

Just in regard to the scholarship positions at the nix, who has been signed up and who’s in the running for the other eight spots?

Shortest is Joshua Nisbet from CCM at reported 144cm. Nix shortest is Rojas at reported 166cm

I'm positive things will go wrong.

I don't rate Caletti, but alright. If you're that physically mismatched, you need to be extremely skilled to off set that imo.

He was really good filling in for McKay when he was injured a few seasons ago. His progress was stalled by the Roar bringing in visa midfielders ahead of him. Biggest question would be how he would go in a side that doesn't dominate possession like the Roar did at that time. I am not against him signing but it would be nice if we could sign a Kiwi or two before we start picking up more Aussie kids.

I don’t think I ever recall you liking any of our signings

Surely only if they 1) want to play for us & 2) if Talay thinks they will do a better job than Caletti.  I'd love to see as many kiwis in the team as possible, but they have to earn it.

I think there are some issues with the ego's and advice young local players get. Every impression I have is that if Talay calls a young Aussie and asks if they are interested they are on Webjet booking flights while he's talking to them.

Meanwhile local kids (and remember many of these players are 20ish rather than 16) have to check with Declan, have to check with mum and dad, believe that because they went to a world cup will be at Bayern by next summer.

I'm not saying they should all be honoured to get an offer from the Phoenix but some of the stories I am hearing are fudgeing laughable.

These would mostly be players that Ufuk coached, that makes the decision easier for them.

Just because you where coached by Ufuk doesn't make you a better player to whats out there does it?

It makes their decision to move here easier compared to a kiwi in Sweden or whatever.

I think the point was more it’s easier for them to buy into the club and make a decision because of having been coached previously

Not saying we should sign lesser players cuz they are Kiwis but Talay sent out a SOS to Devlin and McGing before we even had our first training session. It would have been nice for him to have a good look at NZ options first.

There's a good number of Kiwis already signed, plus Payne, TAWH & Bevan trialling. Sounds like there has been talks with Awad as well.

Plus some further overseas Kiwis mentioned as possibilities. From Baiter's comments a few of the unattached Ole/U20 crew have also been approached.

If all true, not sure what else Talay can do.

So far all the young (and they are young) signed Aussies look like they have some upside. All been around the fringes of A League sides (Sotiro bit more than that), and all still young. One or two of them you would hope will develop nicely. Talay has a background with Aussie age group sides so why not tap into it.

Better than a last minute rushed punt from the NPL, aka Rueben Way - who in his defence never really got a look in (injured before being released) last season.

There will be more NZers signed.

five or so years of an Academy and we are still relying on Declan's kids?

ps a 20 year old consulting his parents who have done everything for their kids football is not surprising

No. Five years or so of an academy and we've produced these graduates and these NZ reps but still run a professional football club that looks to recruit good players regardless of race, creed or first coach as a six year old.

Barcelona have had an academy since Jesus was a small boy and I don't see anyone complaining they rely on Simeone's kids just because they signed Griezmann

So if Griezmann hadn’t signed it would be Simeone’s fault? Analogy fail

There's a reason everyone was so surprised when McCowatt signed; it's well known that Declan doesn't think much of the Nix. NZ is a country with a small talent pool, so being gated off from signing some of the best talents because of a particular advisor is tough; ignoring that seems silly. There's not many clubs in the world who can survive just pulling talents from their own academy.

Perhaps you should ask your mum to explain it to you.

And he's not the only one in NZ football, and they influence the youth; but NP gave me a serve (and Leggy liked it) for pointing this out.

That list of graduates is hilariously overstated.

Except, sooner or later every thread becomes a bunfight over who is right, who is wrong, and has ever got slighted or offended.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

If we want another former Premier League regular that has dropped down to League One and now available on a free, Lee Cattermole is looking for a new gig after leaving Sunderland. Probably out of our pay range tho.

How quickly we forget when we're just bashing someone we don't like. I only need to start by mentioning Cole Peverly's anti-Nix outbursts on Twitter last year.
