According to the covert agent Adelaide have offered us the chance to sign George Blackwood along with the jets and glory.

Not a significant upgrade over Waine/McCowatt I don't think. If a Visa striker isn't forthcoming I don't think he's the player to sign instead. Would rather give our boys that exposure and keep looking in January.

I notice Hiroyuki Takasaki is liking Nix posts on instagram as recently as today. Could that be a sign he is still coming here?

Has to be doesn't it. No other reason he would be liking "3 days to go" Nix post.

I wouldnt take Blackwood, agree hes not much of an upgrade. Sydney Morning Herald reported Reno Piscopo was close to joining Western United, before receiving an offer from Livorno. However complications around a release from his previous club thwarted the deal, but Western United had signed Allesandro Diamanti, which prompted Piscopo to join Wellington Phoenix

Blackwood has been truly sharkhouse every time I've seen him play - I hope we don't go near him, even as a squaddie.

Maybe he's just got good taste in football clubs?

Is it true we need to have someone signed by the end of the day to have a complient roster....?

Adelaide are arguably worse off than we are when it comes to goal-scoring depth and they are trying to offload a striker?

Would be 4D chess if we've snuck our VISA striker in without anyone noticing

Seems like we've just upgraded Waine to a senior contract

Had a wee search on Comet - none of Takasaki, Lewis or Blackwood have been registered to the Nix.

Tin foil hat on, FFA wouldn't give a list of registered players to Phil.

FFA probably don't know where they saved the file

Confrimed Waine is the 20th, on a full pro contract now

Good for the kid, based on preseason he has deserved it.

Yep, happy for it to be Ben Waine on a full contract. The lad is class and has a really focussed attitude. Hope he gets on the pitch on Sunday. From what I've seen I'd rather have Waine and McCowatt with Ball on the bench.

Talay

The 43-year-old said his squad was still missing one player - and again, it was Western who beat him to a punch.

"The window closes on the 15th October and I'm looking at a striker. Hopefully we can get this sorted sometime this week," he said.

"We spoke to Bes (Besart Berisha).

"(Western United) offered him a two year deal so why would he turn that down?

"You always have plan A, plan B and plan C. We'll see what comes to fruition."

Surely we have tried Ross McCormack? Still without club,

No way, club wouldn't go near him for a multitude of reasons. He would cost an absolute bomb, his attitude stinks and whatever you could call his spell at the mariners was a disaster. Plus I don't think he would want to come back to the league after that
Annual finals disappointment enthusiast.

As a striker, he went goalless for I think two seasons. No thank you. Might as well bring back Baba Diawarra from United as well.

Unpopular opinion, but I think Waine can be a starting striker this season or mccowatt.

Why couldn't we get rogerson instead of sortirio.

Deklan Wynne off-contract now at Colorado Rapids.

Seems unlikely they'll want to retain him as a foreign player spot.

Only played eleven times this season for the Rapids due to injury.

May be one to look at for the January window for left-back or defensive utility cover (has played across the backline for the Rapids)?

Needs to re-establish himself at another club and has had a few years in MLS, a better league than the A-League.

Yipe a good option esp if Cacace moves on at season end.

Pity he’s injured, been out of sight for 2 years (since Peru games) so would have been nice to see him involved in upcoming AWs fixtures.

Japanese striker Hiroyuki Takasaki is still liking most recent Nix Instagram posts, if that's anything to go by.

The initial look at the signing of our imports does not make pretty reading.

The Mexican - I have never seen anyone slated so much in a match day thread

The English league one striker - looks like a poor mans Greenacre

The German - looks adequate and nothing more

The striker we needed to replace Krishna was never signed. That is an epic fail and we are not that good enough as a team to wait till January

Then we have the Ausi who for the first time in our history we paid a transfer fee - only to determine he was worthy of the bench behind the Mexican

Didnt someone say we signed Lewis but just had to be announced?

Permalink Permalink

Lighten up guys, its the first game of the season. Yes it isn't ideal that with a couple of days left in the window we haven't got our man, but whats to say Piscopo and Davila just need some time to adjust in a new league? I think Matti Stienman while not being fantastic also didn't really put a foot wrong and seems to be a techincally good player who could well have a good season. I agree that while Ball and Davila haven't proved much yet there is still plenty of time to show that.

Give it a few more games at least before its all doom and gloom and it's another 2017/18 season all over...

I did note in the presser that Talay seemed to imply that Gill was working on something. Guess we'll see tomorrow.

didn't Talay say there was no point signing someone just for the sake of signing someone at the end of his presser?

After round 1 w/o having seen any preseason games (ie this is just a gut feel more than anything), if Ufuk sets the team up to play around, not through, teams then he needs some physicality up front. A number 9.

That said, I actually don’t think that’s how he’s intending to play (at least I hope not) as for the most part wingbacks whipping balls in is almost taking us back to Ricki H days.

If he wants to beat the mid block (which seems to be so common nowadays) without doing this he needs someone with some toe to create the space in behind the block as the team looked very one paced yesterday and WU were able to keep their shape easily. Krishna has many attributes (his finishing being the most up and down) but his pace is very rare and against a slow WU backline yesterday he would have made a BIG difference.

I can see why he’s taken his time given his small budget.
