I think we did really well with Cacace in that he still has another full year on his contract meaning we'd definitely cash in (big time) when he goes.. Hopefully the same will happen with McCowatt etc

Brandon Wilson by the looks of it.

Who would we take out of him, Lewis and Musa?

all whites.... hes not a terrible player but no way could he replace what all whites have for wide roll

Wouldn't mind Musa as CB cover unless Uffie thinks Payne or TAHW can deputize there well enough if Long Pins or DeVere are out

I read somewhere Musa was invited to train with the team while he was here on holiday. He declined. He now has a green card and it sounds like a few MSL teams are chasing him.

I would have thought Lewis would be on the radar. But obviously Talay is looking for more of a defensive player. Wilson is a bigger unit at 6ft and covers CB and RB as well as DM.

Not necessarily anyone, we're strengthening the squad.

Wilson and Lewis play different roles, so signing one doesn't rule out the other. We have 2 roster spots (plus the IR for Fenton), there is nothing stopping us picking up Wilson and Lewis. The ship has sailed on Musa, we couldn't promise any contract offer would come from him training here so he opted to stay in the States to explore other options.

By taking Wilson could Talay also be trying to cover for the loss of players on international call up.

Good point. Isn't there another international window in March that the all whites are scheduled to play in. I guess we will lose Payne, Rufer, Cacace and McCowatt for that,

Phoenix have a bye over that FIFA international window (March 22nd-31st).

Very generous of the FFA.

And of course hasn't been confirmed yet that AWs have games in March. Though Hay was bullish on getting new fixtures back in November.

I think it's more a case of Talay signing a young player desperate for game time for this season and next who can also cover the two positions they need - CM and RB

Permalink Permalink

Yes seems to fit Talay's prerequisite of non visa players being young, having utility value and hungry for game time.

With the odd older head like DeVere, Marinovic thrown in.

... oh, he was one of the players who kicked that Cambodian woman out the door without taxi fare after sex? Not the kind of person I want playing for the Nix, although we had one of those as our coach last year, so wtf

Congratulations on paying for an Uber home for every single one night stand you've had! Truly an inspiration to our young footballers.

I have no issue with a player who had consensual sex with anyone, even if it were in a group situation. Sure, it broke FFA team protocol, but he's facing the consequences for that already.

From what's been spoken publically about the incident (which probably doesn't reflect the whole story), it seems that the only "bad" thing was that they didn't pay for the taxi fare home.

I have no problem with him playing for the Phoenix, I don't see much of a difference between this and Long Pins. Footballers are allowed to have sex too.

Totly agree with Patrick on this one.
Has has done nothing wrong as far as the law or morality are concerned. He has copped a ban and hopefully has learned to be more discreet in the future and perhaps not to do certain things while he's away with his club or national team.

No doubt Uffie would have talked to him and laid some ground rules before making an offer.

What's interests me is he any good on the football pitch ? I know he plays midfield and can cover at Right back but to be honest I haven't seen a lot of him , so is he a decent player (On the pitch)?

So say that then. Don't belittle Dolores because she happens to think it's slightly inappropriate for a bunch of guys to take advantage of a naive SEA girl and gang bang her.

Really don't want to get involved in this but who says she was taken advantage of and that she was naive? Isn't that condescending and a tad sexist to say that?

She had consensual sex with four guys.. Power to her, it's a free country.
They didn't pay for a taxi home which shows a lack of class and awareness but it's hardly a crime worthy of preventing him from playing for us.
I've been Down Under long enough to realize kiwis and aussies aren't exactly known for their romantic efforts...but that doesn't mean anything.

With this said I won't comment on the topic again and will only discuss on field topics.

NZP sums it up well and as I asked, is he a good midfielder with something to offer on the pitch?

He was captain of the Australian U23 team when they played NZ U23. So that says something.

who gives a flying fudge, he’s a good player. only reason people care is because the FFA felt it necessary to ban him and others - all power to them, not a good image for Aussies abroad, bit of a “be more careful” plea, but says absolutely nothing about his character or ability on a football pitch

I’m following NZP on not focusing on this and I hope others will too

Yes, that's my point.

I don't think I should dignify Patrick's question about my sex life, but if I've had a guest who's needed a ride home in an unsafe neighbourhood, I've always made sure they have one.

He was very good for the Glory when he broke thru 3 seasons ago. Glory then stunted his growth by signing Visa players ahead of him. Imo he will be a very good pick up.

You telling me someone went somewhere with out a plan or money to get back home. That sounds like a them problem, why do they think just because they had sex with them they have to find a way for them to get home, reverse the genders and I bet no one would have even cared. Its called growing up and taking responsibility for your self, we all learned a lesson like this in our lives and just called a parent, sibling or friend to collect us. Doloas

As for your last comment Doloas, whose to say the kids had any money themselves to pay for her ride him or why did she not have money her self or if it was even a unsafe neighborhood, your just assuming a whole lot of BS to justify your hate towards the player. She said it was consensual, none of us have any knowledge of who hit on who or arrangements, but saying they have to pay for her ride back is just been entitled form her side and a lack of class form the boys side which sums up 90% of young kids.

bet he wished however he had gone fours into a taxi fare now however

Hope he has learned his lesson as well

We have no idea what went on or what was promised but the woman involved was upset enough to lay a complaint and they means something went wrong. Ultimately just the long pins thing it's not illegal and none of our business. I mean it's not like he stalked her, attacked her boyfriend, and got a restraining order or anything.

?????  I suppose it's a very good way to shut people up who call out bad behaviour to suggest that they're motivated by "hate", put them on the defensive and all that.

Seriously, "why did she not have money?" She's Cambodian living in Cambodia. You know, one of those countries which is so grindingly poor that sleeping with four young foreigners in exchange for football tickets seems like a good deal. Last time I was in Thailand cab fare was less than bus fare in NZ, and I'm sure Cambodia is similar.

Kicking someone out the door with no cab fare in a crime-ridden Third World city is asshole behaviour, end of story. Or, as the FFA rightly decided, unprofessional behaviour.
