I genuinely don't know what more Tony P and the Phoenix can be expected to do to get a Premiership Team here.  FFS people, get off your high horse and realise that this opportunity is not going to come around again.  It is genuinely unlikely that we will ever see a top half premiership side in NZ again.  Man up!

I would go. Just saying, I don't think your average bandwagoner will give a sh*t.

Everton would NOT pull a sell-out crowd. People who would go to such an event (apart from football fans who already go to Nix games) don't care about Everton. If the costs can be split between Melbourne/Whoever then maybe it wouldn't be such a bad venture to generate interest before the season starts.

20000 would be a stretch I reckon..5000 everton fans plus 8000 Nix regulars plus another 5000 football supporters....Galaxy only worked first time cos it was Beckham and people came from all over the country. Id cap my interest at $30...same price as any pre season game.
Well considering in the first season we averaged 14kish I think we could fit in 20K easy. Also if there is the game in Perth and here then Sydney, Melbourne etc Everton supporters could come here.

Any chance of any Merseyside based Evertonian fans making the trip do you think?

I think there's an outside chance a few would make the trip. I used to have a season ticket and once went to Belgium and Holland for a couple of pre-season games and the following there was immense. Course, the cost of coming here is in another league entirely but I think a couple would consider it. Our away support in the Prem is phenomenal, but I don't think we could count on many to boost the attendance really. Any who came would just be a bonus.

How many of us get up in the middle of the night to watch football...quite a few I guess, how else are we ever going to watch the games given the time difference. Then a suggestion that Everton, currently high flying in the EPL might be coming to town to play the phoenix and the question is will people go to watch the game and the clear answer is F**** yeah!!  we are talking about a currently top flight team in the premiership  who's football is infinately better than LA Galaxy, they dont have david Beckham  but then he is one player and as for the costs? have a look at what they charge to watch an everton match in the UK  between 29 -34 pounds  round about 80-85 dollars maybe a bit more...Well worth the money I say
Good on the phoenix to bring this talent to this country

I don't think you need the average bandwagoner. Surely there are 25000 football fans that would go. Like has already been said, there are many EPL fans that don't give a toss about the Nix (like my dad) who would be interested.
I like tautologies because I like them.

I'd go but I doubt that many would show up, no disrespect to Everton.

Hope it happens. Remember the atmos the weekend of the Beckham match. Wellington was just awash with football fansd. I'd love to relive it. In another thread I noted the growing identification of people around NZ with the Phoenix, this would be a chance to utilise that.

Its the fact that an quality team from the EPL could be coming over to play our own Phoenix.
I think most football playing kiwis or watchers may be keen to go. But just my opinion

This thread is to discuss the Phoenix vs Everton proposal.

It is not a place for fake scousers to score points off each other.  That is why we supply the English football forums.

Ouch.
I think that a crowd of 20000 is a very easy number to achieve.
Even if you dont support them, the draw card of seeing a EPL team is a very big selling point

Yes stefan, You got it. Casual footbsall fans should enjoy the chance to see a real live EPL team, One such as Everton have a good history in the game and doing alright this season which would help selling the game.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!

NIX vs EVERTON
Great for a one off crowd and short term thrills. I'd go, but
Q. The result. What would a hiding do to the reputation of the Nix and the A league?
Q. Is it worth it? There were big crowds for the Beckham circus. Where are they now?
Nix vs Notts County, now thats more like it.
I think a A leaugue aussies showed the current standard last night against Kuwait.

And what happens if we beat them? or even a draw? A loss is expected, a win would be amazing. most people won't be worrying about the score at the end.

The game last night was definitely not auz's best but they were quite off and did not potray the current standards of the A-league. the players just simply did not step up and most of them have played much better domestically this season

If we bet their top side I'll shout everyone over to Brisbane for the Nix v the Meow's!
People will take notice of the score, after all thats what the games about.
A flogging would make people question as to why they should shell out money to watch what they would think of as  an A league game with crap united vs crap city.
Yes the A league boys were crap last night. Not stepping up is not an excuse, there is no excuse really. They are A league so they DID portray the standard. Its easy to look good when average plays average.

There would be quite afew 'precious ones", to important to travel. So maybe if they send their reserves for their reserves for their reserves for their reserves side and still play under 'EVERTON' yes it might be a good game  and half the crowd woulndn't know what the difference is.

Sorry football fans. we don't wanna play  everton because we are scared we might lose??

So you think the phoenix will lose support if we lose this game?? I'm not sure how this is crap united vs crap city either?

I think that the fans are going to watch the game and not many people are expecting a win.
So if we did it'd make a name for ourselves. if we lose then we all got to see true quality players which is what we expect
