Nix v Everton

The vast majority won't care if the Nix win or lose - they just want to see a premiership team full of internationals play and to enjoy themselves.

How can you not enjoy yourself in a fired up RoF of 20,000+ ?

Bring it on - great for the Nix (profile and platform to launch the 09/10 season), great for football (a football lovers dream to watch a premiership team play their local club) and great for Wellington (truck loads of out of towners visiting and spending).

Even if the Nix got flogged, who cares, surely there'd be some quality goals.. It's the idea of seeing a  real Premiership team at the Westpac that's got me excited. I dont really mind who it is but Everton are a step up from Foolham IMHO. And the Nix players might just be able to measure themselves against a decent standard. I wonder how Lochhead would go??

Yeah that was quite a good read. I really can't see that a fear of losing should be the reason we don't want to play

If a little over-optimistic, given the writer's support for Everton.

and it is fanatastic to see our boys have a go at the big boys...I'm going to remember for a long time Bertos skinning Cafu, and Draper turning and beating the Brazillian defender at the Olympics.

I think the spectacle will be much better than Beckham- we wont have rubbish like Pavon tripping over the ball...

I mean Siggie against Cahill- that's a great contest. We get to invest in this great underdog story. Brown and McKain mixing it with a premiership midfield...Costa up against a premiership defence.

you can't tell me that that isn't a great attraction- imagine if costa goes round a couple of players and sets up a scoring chance or a goal...that would be worth the price of admission in itself...

additional: was wondering if anybody had the full games or information on how to get them for NZ v Wales and NZ v Brazil? would be great to have and rewatch...

A fear of losing?! Come on...
I think that as Phoenix supporters we have come up against that fear many times.
If people don't want to come because they think the Phoenix may lose, thats fine.. To me, It just shows who the real Phoenix fans are.

I dream that would happen in the A-league, but it hasn't. It'd be nice against Perth let alone an EPL team.

That would be dangerous though, he might get signed over to England and we'd be another attacker down!

got fairly good memories of him giving Ogendenovski nightmares against Adelaide...just kept getting fouled once he got passed...

Never thought I would say this but I hope they do.

Wellington Phoenix vs FA Cup winners Everton at the Ring of Fire. It doesn't get much better.

[QUOTE=playwithFire]

Sorry football fans. we don't wanna play  everton because we are scared we might lose??

So you think the phoenix will lose support if we lose this game?? I'm not sure how this is crap united vs crap city either?

I think that the fans are going to watch the game and not many people are expecting a win.
So if we did it'd make a name for ourselves. if we lose then we all got to see true quality players which is what we expect

Who's scared?
And yes, and yeah I know you don't get it.
I'm not talking about the 'fans' but never mind

Exactly how I was thinking. Would be smart to announce it when there is lots of media on everton. Can't wait.
Really hope they knock over man u because even that would raise the reputation of everton.

No ones scared - I'm just pointing out that the club won't be thinking about winning or losing when they make the decision whether or not to host them.
I guess you're just talking about the general reputation of the club but I think that a loss to an EPL club can be expected and only a real flogging would be negative so let's hope the boys can step up for the match.

Exactly, the result is completely immaterial.  Does anyone remember that we lost 4-1 to the galaxy?  Did that make it unsuccesful?  It's pre-season, it's not as if they're going to go out all guns blazing and try and stick 10 past us

If Everton pull off a bit of an upset in the FA cup this year and take that out, or even make the final, that would surely increase the numbers at the game... man2biron2009-03-10 08:34:27

Everton getting to the FA Cup Final would be great for the Nix if they want to put this game on.

As for the result if we play Everton? Who gives a toss.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I think it would be great but...
While we know Everton are a great side I don't think the Everton name will have enough pull power to even near fill the stadium.
I know I'd go and most of you would go but that's not enough, you need a bit more of a novelty or X factor.
Makes me think of the Auckland/Galaxy saga...
Terry would have to foot the bill surely as it's not a time for councils etc to take financial risks and he's going to lose money on it if it goes ahead, no question about that.
It would be great but I just don't see it happening.

No one wants to fiill the stadium though.  Tony is talking 18-20k to make a profit...

Oh really? That's brilliant...
Why so cheap though? Because they aren't sending a first grade team or is it because they are also (possibly/confirmed?) playing Sydney and we are halving costs?

No it isn't.  People would want to have a reason to come back.

Yes, and 20,000 others who didn't come back
 Did that make it unsuccesful?
NO, of course not

Anyone seen my Everton shirt?  The 1984 League Cup Final one. I think I might wear that one, if I can find it. Together with mid-70s scarf complete with sewn on badges. A real relic from the past.  (My cousin got me that when she worked at the Goodison souvenir shop).

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.
