What was JC's goal like?
As Bopman said, free kick taken by Daniel hit to Plodder in front.  Goal of the game was Mully's though.  Cracker.
yea he name is marama very tidy young defender. who is this soromon???

Seule Soromon, Vanuatu international who scored a truckload for Wairarapa in the Capital premier League this season.

Didn't see the Mulligan goal had to come to work, why was he not taking free kicks again? Has Daniel ever scored from a free kick? Shouldn't we at least be giving Mully a go

good to see that Leo had a solid run, hopefully no reaction from it

plodder starting in mid - intersting

i wonder whether Drape would show up as well against more experienced opposition - only one way to find out i guess

possibly good for the team's confidence to score a few

Any idea if young Alex Barlow got a run for HBU? He's another NZSS player (ex Nagaruawahia and Waikato Youth).  Prob left middie if anything.s2art2008-10-14 21:41:43

not a bad game. but gotta give credit to the HBU guys. The score was tied to 1-1 until they made 3-4 subs, including their keeper. Their 2nd keeper went in goal and he was not up to standards i'm afraid. no. 7 (Pervs as you guys call him) is a class defender. He talks a bit too much, but I have to say that Hearfield himself was playing dirty too, i.e. pulling Perv's shirt every time, even when not needed and was talking back.

Daniel played a good 90. I think I saw Smeltzy's wife, very nice. Wanted to tell her that you can't beat Wellington on a good day, but I'm sure she can work that out for herself.

Manny Muscat is a bloody awesome player. He was player of the match if you ask me. Wonder if the Socceroos will ever give him a chance. I think he's much better than a whole lot of other full backs in the A-League.

Costa played well, he always beats his man and he tried his shot on a few occasions. Draper was fantastic. He made a lot of runs, created space and looked dangerous. he even got on the scoresheet. I really would love to see these youngsters in action on sunday. Even only for 10/15'.
I think they deserve it.

i think so too - I don't get the lukewarmness to him most show on here

+ 1

think he is a good team player
had two poor efforts and one particularly good one

imagine how awesome it would be to have a team in the youth league. Two match threads!

Messam was causing all sorts of havoc with his size. If Mckain is our biggest defender, then he towered over him with ease. He doesn't win many headers for a guy of his size, but his link up play with Soroman was great in the first half. Daniel had one wicked free kick which was saved. Peverly was the pick of the bay side, very composed for a young player. Siggy dominated when he came on. Also agree that Draper played very well.Huddlestone2008-10-15 08:11:37

Saw him playing for Ngaruawahia a couple of times last season. Great player.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Where's the crowd shots, News?

Is that a certain Mr J. Cross I spied in there as the man in the middle?

You did indeed. Smith and I were encouraging him all match...

I know Smith has some crowd shots, not sure if Mr. McGeady (Jumpcut) does. Hard News2008-10-15 09:57:37

What's even more worrying is that he seems to be trying to have a good look to see what's up there

Cheers for that, McG.  Don't like the look of the dodgy character on the left, trying to cover his face so he doesn't get snapped

Saw the game and was quite surprised how well the Bay boys held the Phoenix for the first hour. Actually at times in the first half you could be confused which was the A-League team and which was the local lads. I thought an A-League team mid season would tear these guys up!!!!

Anyway....the positives....We have real depth in central defense. Dodd, Siggy and McCain all looked class. its been mentioned before but McCain looks like he has all the skills to play DM. He's quick, passes well,  moves the ball up well and passes OK and he's played for the Socceroo's there.  Probably too late to develop him there this season but would be worth it next season if Johnno goes.

Super Leo looks back in form...played the whole game OK. Hearfield had a very quiet game. Draper was good....he will play many games for the Phoenix in the future. Costa was a revelation...up until he came on things were quiet....he immediately was beating players and getting dangerous crosses into the box. Set up a couple of goals and scored himself I think. Still can't understand how he doesn't get a run....even off the bench.

So number 7 was cole peverley? thought so he did look like a quality footballer. Kinda surprised he isn't playing at a higher level.

He will.

He's had trials and things since the Olympics but nothing firm yet.  To me he looks like he'd step up to A-League quite easily.
