Must admit my heart sank when I heard they had been practicing crosses.....crossing to whom? we have the shortest group of attackers in the A-League. We have no one with any pretensions of heading ability. So WTF?
I am afraid the game plan from Ricki will be...."they have a couple of inexperianced CB's so just keep whacking the ball in and see what scraps we can pick up". If we start pumping high crosses I swear to God I will eat my season pass.!!!
Everyone in this forum has outlined what we need to do. Fenton and Boyd are good at getting in behind defenses. They need to vary it up by drilling the ball across the face of goal low and hard and have runners come in at the near post for deflections into goal or they need to cut it back to the edge to pick up guys like Sanchez and others coming into the box. Above all they need to have patience. If they are wide and there is no obvious pass on then don't just always lob it into the mixer...use that only occasionally for variation. They also need to get into attacking situations faster....we tend to build up slow and by then the opposition defenders are set in numbers.
If we are going to base our game around short passes around the box I would prefer Stein there to Brockie....Stein looks to have the skill set to play that sort of game. Brockie scores wondergoals but goes missing for large parts of every game.
We should win this game...but then I thought the same about the Sydney game.
