I would like to see this:

Paston

North, Sigmund, Durante, Hearfield

Muscat, Lia, Brown

Ifill, Greenacre, Rojas

Or close to it. Ward I think is pretty useful to have off the bench.

Look forward to it. Showed glimpses of quality tonight, and glimpses of sh*t.

After Adelaide, our home games are against Jets (2), Fury, Glory and Victory. We must win all of them, maybe a draw with Victory.

That's why I'd keep him on the bench. I think he's great for 30 minutes at the end. Doubts over a 90 minute performance though. And knowing Ricki, that midfield won't change.

hmmm rojas starting may be a wee bit premature for me.

Would love it, but think he needs a bit more time

North should be Cb (imo) Hearfield was alright at Rb tonight  although he tired out at the 70 min mark and Musa didn't seem that bad at Lb either although he only had one pass on him. i don't there's much to change tbh but it's Rickis team not mine

Well, Sigmund walks into my lineup atm. Even after a week off. And North looks pretty good bombing forward.

Must start Rojas or at the very least give him a half.

Rojas made a big difference yes - but do you think he's ready to start?
I know I'm not completely sure..

Rojas shouldn't start. Not yet. Unless we're forced to because of Leo's injury I think it's too early. He's looked good off the bench but there's a huge difference between running at tired defenders for 10-15 minutes and working up and down a flank for 90. I thought it was too early for Musa and IMO he proved me right - granted it was forced due to Siggy's suspension - but going from reserve team games/training to A-League starts is a huge step for a guy like him and two cameo's hasn't bridged that step a lot.

Fuck this stupid game

well bertos is out, so maybe rojas will get a start?? I'm not sure he should though..?

For me, I would go with

            Paston
North Siggy Dura Hearfield
               Muscat
           Brown Lia
Ifill                             Ward
            Greenacre

Bench: Vuko, Daniel, Rojas, and one of Musa,Elliot,Pav, or Mac

Just think Wardy may be more up to a start than Rojas. Daniel has two ineffective starts so not sure about him, think the bench is best. And if Ricki wants defensive cover, then Musa should travel, otherwise maybe Pav

yeah but Hearfield is reaaaally bad at the back, so much better going forward!

this would win it for us

                         paston

          north      sigmund    dura     hearfield

                          muscat

                   brown          lia

          rojas           ifill           daniel

vukovic
greeny
bertos
ward

bertos has lost his spark lately, and rojas has the spark, so he deserves a start, see what he can provide, also he has fresh legs instead of the rest of the team who have played 3 games in 7 days.

ifill is great central striker, keep him there. muscat, best player in the team at the moment, and musa needs a bit more experence before he has another start

Rojas starting is a bit ridiculous IMO, he's earnt a longer cameo though.

                    Paston

            Siggy      Durante
North                             Hearfield

              MooseCat
        Lia                Brown

 Ifill                            Daniel
            Greenacre

Vukovic
Ward
Rojas
Pavlovic
You know we belong together...

how is it ridiculous? he's proven what he's got, and some of our starting players are proving that they need a rest, he's young, skillful, and isn't afraid to run at the defence. why waste him?
Permalink Permalink

How has he proven that he can start and do a job for 90 minutes? He's only had 10-15 on the park. All we know is that he can come on and make an impact with the ball at feet running at tired defenders.

Fuck this stupid game

don't play him for 90, sub him off at some point, but bertos has been playing like s*** lately and we need a change, give him a go, longer than 15 mins, see what he can really do

Wouldn't start him away from home. Give him longer time off the bench, though - maybe 30 mins or so.
All he did was beat a tired Celeski twice - it was good work, and probably provided the impetus for us to go on and score, but he's stll got a long way to go to be ready to start games imovaleo2010-11-28 13:35:20

yeah i want Rojas starting in the future, but a few more bench roles wont bother me. think greeny could come back into the starting lineup but that makes Ifills position a bit more difficult

Hopefully Rojas gets a start!

Will be my first live Phoenix game of the season.

Bertos out for Sydney game; "The Phoenix coach is also likely to have to make a change to his attack as well after Leo Bertos left the field with a groin problem and is unlikely to make the trip across the Tasman."

Marco's first start ?

"Marco could come in for a straight swap for Leo," Herbert, who must manage his side given they host Adelaide United in Christchurch just four days after the match at Sydney Football Stadium, said.

"He's a talented young kid. I wouldn't be afraid to expose him against Sydney. He's a fantastic little talent."

Will be interesting to see who gets the available bench spot - Elliott's chance for redemption ?

I'd consider pushing Greenacre out wide and putting Ifill in as the CF.

I think Ricky will play thus:

              Paston
North     Siggy    Dura    Disco T
                 Moosecat
            Brown      Lia
    Ifill       Greenie          Daniel

Bench:
Vuko

Ward

Why not just have them switch during the game? They do it anyway

I do like Ifill more central because he wins quite a few headers - more than Greenie.valeo2010-11-28 17:36:33

Personally I don't have a problem with having Rojas start. Admittedly I haven't seen enough of him to know if he is in the same class as 17 yr old Amini for CCM, but that player is already well and truly repaying the confidence shown in him by Arnold.

Drop him into the team for 60-70 minutes and let's see what he can add to our attack. If he's got the talent many believe he has he may rapidly grow in confidence and win a regular starting place.

Or we could start the way we finished
with the adjustments at the back for Siggy in and to keep Manny at DM
Paston
North Siggy Dura Hearfield
Ward          Manny     Brown          Rojas
Ifill Greenacre
Vuko
Daniel
Pav/Mac
Lia

If Rojas or Ward strugging to maintain impact then Pav on, Ifill to Wing; or straight swap for Daniel

Though the SFS is actually a pretty good hunting ground for Leo (in terms of goalscoring), him being out could be a blessing in disguise for us. I'll stick my neck out and say that outside of the odd piece of magic that he's been no more than average for the past two seasons now.

In terms of changes, Siggy probably comes back, with North reverting back to RB, Hearfield to LB.  Greenie did enough for me to warrant a start. Pav perhaps to come onto the bench. Lia should stay because in what could be a scrappy game, he normally fears pretty well.

We'll have to watch Brosque and Bridge as it was their pace they has tore us that has caused us problems in the past. Byun got a red card last night so won't be available for Sydney.

We'll want to repay them for dishing out some crushing defeats to us (after it was doing the same to them in the early days of our existence).

I know I'm not completely sure..

A handful of minutes over even less games, i think thats too soon to call for a full game. Hes looked ok over a few minutes, but will he look ok over 90? Probably nah.

He seems to work as an impact player off the bench anyway, the sort of player who can frustrate a tired defence.

^ This. Grows a decent moustache but not much use for anything else.

Why would you want to move Ifill away from centre forward where he has been absolutely outstanding in the last two games and replace him with Greenacre who has struggled alone in that role.?
If anything I would like to see Greenie tried wide in place of injured Leo. Greenie might do OK in that role....he has a big work rate, would track back well and links OK with Ifill.
Ifill wins lots of aerial stuff as CF, Greenie never did.

Not disagreeing with most of your points, but Greenie won more than  his fair share of the aerial stuff. More than he was entitled to, to be honest.

Also not sure that Ifill has been "outstanding" in his last two games. He's played well and looks to be coming back to form again but outstanding isn't quite the word I'd use.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I agree with most of what you say. However I disagree with the bold bit. Greenie won/wins/competes for plenty in the air. People under rate his work in that area.

Having said that I think we'd be best with two in the middle, inside right and inside left. Greenie and Ifill feeding off each other was excellent in the last 15 mins on Saturday. With Rojas and Hearfield ranging wide and ward fedding the 4 of them with the two centre midfields behind him in a tringle things looked good.

Pavlovich in a front two pairing would be good too... perhaps coming off the bench to offer fresh legs up front later on if needed?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.
