Disappointed - of course. Surprised - not by the loss but definitely by the margin.

I thought we simply got found out tonight - we have punched way above our weight to be where we are on the table and still in contention for a home play-off but against the better teams (and Melbourne were tonight) our lack of pace, skill and creativity, especially in our midfield, shows.

It's not helped by our lack of shape and organisation in the middle of the park - Smith and Sanchez look lost wide out and Brown plays up front most of the time leaving a gapping hole in the middle of the park.

Our back four gets exposed time after time as teams go straight through the middle of the park.

Brown needs to play DM and fill and own the middle of the park and Herbert needs to trust Greeny to play as a striker up front with Ifill.

Fingers crossed results go our way this weekend and we secure 4th. I think with 3 goals against us tonight we can all but kiss goodbye to 3rd.

Great to be where we are on the table but some hards calls needed in the off season on deletions / additions to the squad, particularly imports, if we really want to be contenders.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

As if that result didn't piss me off enough.

Tomorrow is the day where millions of people from around the world decide that a little bit of premeditated wackiness is a great idea!

Grrrrrrr!

Not surprised we lost again to the Tards.

They kept to their standard game plan against us.

1st Half...Fall over and convince the ref that you were fouled

2nd Half...Don't fall over in the same situations you did in the first half and fool the defender into not tackling you, then pass the ball wide and whip in a cross

I'm so embarrassed and extremely disappointed by our performance.  3rd is gone and who knows if we have the guts to keep 4th.  CCM is going to be very tough.  when did we beat them last???  Can only hope results go our way, I just fear our luck has run out.

Only joy I can take out of this game is the Victory aren't in the play offs.

Wow!
Thats a very good summation...havn't you been drinking like the rest of us.?

Sort of saw this coming....we have been dominated through midfield in the last few games....except the opposition could not put away their chances. Tonight the Victory had the quality to score...we are just lucky that we did not lose 0-6. Thompson could have got 4.

Ok...so that is a reality check for the side. All is not lost but it really is back to the drawing board. As Piney said in the podcast.....you take out Ifill and who else is going to score?
He did some good things but was heavily marked.

Paul Ifill sumed it up. 'We were not good enough'
Some of the comments from supposedly NZ football supporters are a disgrace. 'At least we got Marco'If that is the best comment you can come up with you should f**k off and join a rugby forum. Then we had their keeper is crap,Hernandez is fat and useless and Thompson is a w**ker.
Gee you blokes really know your football.
I think Ifill's comments just about sum it up.TBH we were lucky it was not 5.
For all you supporters that blamed Paston for the first goal-- you know zip. He had no chance.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Nix said that ticket sales where at an all time high or something to that effect.  Unfortunately after this result I think we'll be lucky to get 10k!  Which is a shame as the marketing department have really stepped up with the EURO trip giveaway.  The Nix just aren't helping them.

Was a good 250-300. Sold out the away allocation, I had friends that had to buy in the section above, a very good turn out from Wellington , Kapiti , taranaki, & Coxey. All in good voice, all had a good time, looking forward to going back to work Monday !

A bit pissed in Melbourne. But more pissed off. sh*t happens I guess, but we weren't at the races tonight.

But we will be playing next week, and we will be in the finals.

Proud to be part of the travelling Nix tonight. Well done Wellington.

Most did in the end after prompting from Ricki and Paston.

We lost because I decided to watch bits of it live rather than recorded. Arsenal fans will be pleased to know that I will also be staying up to watch spurs games where the same results tend to happen. You can thank me now.

What's so positive in "Marco got slammed" "Marco got wasted"? If you haven't seen the game, our team got wasted!!!

We should be focusing on playing football rather that agricultural challenges which may well now prevent Marco to play for  U23s, which by the way, had pretty average display and desperately need someone like Marco.

At least we tried to play some football, rather than park the bus and try counter stuff. Nothing we didn't know. Squad is 2 top quality players short. Ifill virtually said that months ago, and re-signed on the basis that we'll bring a couple of top players in for a real go next season.

We lost this on the tactics board before the game. We needed Smith sitting in front of the back four holding hands with Carlos all night. Ryan's Rovers2012-03-17 09:07:15

We all wanted Ricki to go out and play more attacking than he usually does away from home. He did, and we got caught out on counter attacks way to often.

I love Ricki, but he doesn't seem to be able to adjust tactics during a game if they are not working. E.g. in the away game against CCM, Lia at right back was clearly not working, and many of us saw that Manny and Lia had to swap back after 10 minutes but Ricki left them the way they started for the whole game.

Unless Welnix loosen the purse strings in the off season and bring in some players who can help fix what were exposed as glaring holes in our makeup they can kiss goodbye to keeping thoses attendances up next season. As if we like it or not we have punched above our weight this season.Yes we have turned in some good performances but also some really bad ones as well.thanfully some other teams have performed worse than us allowing us grab a finals spot.

Agree with what you wrote WB,has also become a frustrating watch this season as our lack of speed and our at times inability to even pass the bloody ball to team mates.

This. It was good for the Phoenix that he couldn't play the game, as the scoreline probably would have been a lot worse if he was on the field.

It is NOT good for the U23's at all, and therefore football in the country.

Hello neighbours. I'm from Victoria and support only the one team in Melbourne......Victory.

Great to see the fantastic banter between Victory and Wellington fans last night. You Phoenix mob was at it very early and it took while for the victory lads to fire up, but once they did it was on. The chants, songs were very humourous and almost as entertaining as the game itself. Well done to both sets of supporters!!

I just want to wish you guys the best for the coming finals as many have respect for your club and on top of that, f**k Heart and Sydney.

Good luck and see you next season :)Bill772012-03-17 12:34:53
