think Downey equalized..
1-1
Nix win on the last kick of the game. 2-1. U20's must be gutted, reminds me of the NZvAus game last year.

good effort from Sanchez. Not gonna do his chances any harm, even if there already is an international attacking midfielder on the way. Unless Sanchez was playing striker?
Would like to hear a bit more opinion on how the guys looked from someone who was at the game.

Was at the game. Mate I was with needed to be somewhere back out west by 4.20 so we missed the final goal; am furious with him now.
U20s were pretty average going forward; pinging long balls up for shorties like Lucas is never going to suceed. Their defense was pretty decent, not that the Nix offered up much in attack, a few blocks and a couple of good saves by the first keeper.
Pavlovic looked energetic as always; Ifill a bit sluggish; Bertos/Daniel not very effective; Brown anonymous. Phoenix first goal came from a scramble in the box; U20s goal came from Lucas beating Sigmund and then evading Imray's challenge, crossed to Lovemore for the tap in. Lovemore was lively while he was on.
All in all a very average game, but the U20s definitely need to sort out their attacking game plan before Colombia.

Just got back, mussa was immense
lovemore looked lively when he came on
Downey looks a nice player with that pace
I know sanchez only had 20 and scored the winner, but really was not impressed by his touch
crowd 4000, I don't think they countered the kids there however and there were a few

Who played well for the U20's?
Musa, definitely should re-sign if he doesn't get snapped up after the world cup. No one else really stood out enough imo to warrant further consideration, some players looked good in patches but didn't show enough to make an impact in the A-league this season.

What were they like going forward?
In patches they looked good, they created a really good one on one chance in the first half which was well saved and obviously the goal. They did fall into the trap of hoofing, 40-50 metre balls up to the strikers which the Nix cb's dealt with ease. When the used the flanks and ran at the Nix back four, they were looked threatening and created chances.
Did they play well at the back?
Musa was rock solid, however the other CB will get found out playing against tallish strikers. The backs seemed comfortable dealing with the 433 being played by the Nix. The under 20's were able to double team the Nix's forwards, and subsequently close them down pretty quickly however far to often the just pumped the ball forward rather look to play the out and retain possession.

The U20's looked solid at the back and were good on the counter. 'Nix looked flat and really had to work hard and get into the faces of the U20's, I think there were 4 times when U20 players when down for treatment or off from average 'Nix tackle.
Crowd was pretty good on a nice day, just over 4,000 most pro-U20's.

Nix had best of 1st half while 2nd half was more even, periods where U20's were in control.
Lukas made the U20's goal, beat last defender (Siggy I think) then under the challenge of Imray managed to squirt the ball across to Lovemore who had a tap in.
First Nix goal was good work from Ifill down the left who found Downey in the box who hit it far corner, decent finish.
Last goal was a through ball which Ifill and Turipa both went for as it was dropping on the edge of the area, Turipa did well to get a piece of it but fell to Sanchez who finished coolly.
Best performer for me for U20's would have had to be Musa, solid as. Also Lovemore when he came on caused some problems, he's super quick. Lukas up front seemed dangerous also. #13 in the midfield was quaity, some superb touches, not sure his name though.
For the Nix I thought Downey played very well, man he has some speed. Ifill looked really good both in his play and physique, looked very lean. Pantelis didn't show up much and Daniel seemed behind the pace a bit when he came on.
Still need an attacking mid for mine. Looked like Manny was playing in front of the back 4 with Brown and Lia in front of him in the middle. There wasnt much flair through the centre, attacks were mostly coming through Ifill out wide. Although Lia did play a lovely through ball to set up Pav in the 1st half but he couldnt hit the target.
Very enjoyable afternoon watching football in the sun.

missed opportunity there by the Phoenix, 4000 potential customers and I am sure they could have brought some stuff on the bus

Always said he should be retained. Wonder if he just got up and played well because it was against guys he knows?
Think Lovemore would be interesting as well. Did Payne get much of a run? I'm very interested in him now he is trialling with Blackburn

Tim Payne came on but I don't remember him doing much. Ant Hobbs was much better than I've seen of him previously, doing a good job of marking Iffy and Leo. Also impressed by Lovemore and Musa and - you may be amazed to hear this - Ethan Galbraith.
Why was Liam Higgins wearing a Zorro mask?!?
For the Nix, I liked all the triallists, but in particular Sanchez looked hot in the brief time he was one and did very well to get the final goal - just unlucky for Turipa. Chettleburgh looked like he had a point to prove and also looked feisty. Tsatallios looked solid, didn't see much of Pantelis but looked all right. O'Keefe looked a bit nervous to start with but settled down. Bryan Bran didn't get a run.
The biffo between Manny Muscat and Dakota Lucas was interesting. Lucas was very feisty all day and got in our keepers' faces pretty well. Agree that Ricki should definitely consider re-signing Musa after the U20 WC, and probably Lovemore as well. Maybe Hobbs if he can keep that kind of form up.
Lots of support for the U20's in the crowd, to the point of being anti-Nix in places. One lady leaving was all like the Nix should be ashamed of themselves for only just beating the U20s, and went on to speculate that the Nix will probably go under this season, if not on Monday when Terry "goes bankrupt".
Someone on the Dangerous Liaisons forum suggested a "temporary bogus Fever Zone" around Blocs 2-3. I was there, where were you clowns?

I think he should wear it all the time, to strike fear into the hearts of his opponents. Imagine if you saw freakin' Zorro coming at you on the field!

Have to say Sanchez didn't impress me at all. Didn't really do much the time he was on.
Agree Musa was good and Lovemore looked dangerous.
Not a bad crowd. A little bit disappointing we could not have a beer. Bizarre.
Also Turipa has got even bigger

Tsattialos (sp?) was good in at Left back, would not be disappointed with him signing on today's effort. Musa definitely looked like he had a point to prove. He seemed to control the squad in the second half. The Lucas/Manny-Ifill-Pav incident provided a bit of interest
