Lucas Pantelis, What a nob - how was that a lucky goal? If Galactica didn't knock it in then there was a Nix player behind him to tap it in. It was well constructed Royal2009-12-18 23:58:37

Someone needs to tell Ifill to stop putting his hands over his eyes after he messes up and watch what's going on around him. I find that he gives up the ghost as soon as he has taken his shot.  Follow it up Paul.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!

Disappointed we couldn''t beat a team that were pretty much asking to be beaten but after that wonder goal by Alemao i'll take a point

Thought that Hearfield was disgraceful for most of that 2nd half - whenever he got beat he didn't even track back

Guys like McKain and Leo stepped up, though. Leo was horrible 1st half but one of the best in the 2nd.

about f**king time we got a late lucky goal

Caceres showed how good he can be, always liked him so was good to see him pull out a performance like that.

happy with a draw. sure we shoul've won but atleast we got another point and stay in the hunt.

Bertos played well tonight.

Reddy made some nice stops too so happy to have him here. That goal was unstobbale so don't blame him for it going in!!

Reasons to be cheerful: our first ever point in Adelaide.

A satisfactory result.

I only saw the second half but what I seen is frustrating lack of yellow cards to control the game better by the referee. Under such conditions we were lucky. But I can't say it was satisfactory at all. Adding to the misery, the passing decision by the players was average today as well as the lack of player support to the ball carrier on odd occasions. The long range shooting outside of the box was missing yet again and the heading on goals was very horrible. match rating for the NIx for me was 6.5/10

can someone tell me why when we have a corner in the 92nd minute, with 30 seconds to go, we choose a short option on the corner and then kick the ball away, I have seen this happen more than once in different games it is so fkn frustrating, why don't we get everyone making runs into the box and cause chaos in there!!!

Brown is such a poor finisher but he still has 5 goals! He could easily have 10+ this season had he put away his super-easy chances that most other players would of (well not Bertos or Ferrente...)

The other three times we've played in Adelaide, we've been dogsh*t (to put it nicely)

4-1 loss (Judas scores after 2 min, downhill form there)
3-0 loss (Durante calls us garbage on national TV, had to agree with him there)
6-1 loss (yuck)

That's when Adelaide were actually good, though. They are anchoring the bottom now (along with us)

Fair point.

We've now had four 1-1 draws against both NQF and Adelaide, which really really hurts. How we managed to not even win one of those games could come back to haunt us dearly.

Just hope Greenie gets fit.

disappointed we didn't put our chances away

teams might be have found Iffy out a little - but with Greenacre back ithink we'll see more from Paul again

Costa seems a bit more confident these days

McKain looked good

ref really should have got the yellow out more often

Durante, Brown, and Lia all escaped without cards.  Happy with that.

Brown couldn't finish a sandwich.

Barbarouses should have set up a goal in the first half but failed.  His passing was often late.  Poor performance.

Rojas did nothing.

Bertos was awful first half.

Around the 65minute mark Hearfield was terrible.

Caceres may have won back a starting spot.

Who to drop though? Sure bertos was sh*te first half, but once we switched out to a 442 he came alive. Perhaps Daniel will drop out, however I like Caceres as a super sub. Always seems to perform better off the bench for me.

I agree. Earlier in the season he followed those up. I know he's trying hard and gets dissapointed but c'mon a little more effort plz.

Next week bench Daniel. Start Costa, Caceras and Bertos

I think that's a little harsh on both Costa and Hearfield. Costa (and Rojas) are clearly at a disadvantage not getting regular competitive youth league football week in week out compared to their Aussie counterparts. In that crucial area of ball control and retention they are going to struggle, simple as that.

Hearfield was found out a little bit later on - so what? He still played OK overall, and I would say definitely no worse than quite a few others, eg, Leo was well below par, except for about the last 15.

And they did is all I'm pointing out.  There may be reasons (well there are) for their performance but they were still poor.

I thought Hearfield was one of our better players and he should keep the spot ahead of Muscat.

Lochhead doing well these days now too.

One part of the game that springs to mind involving Hearfield is when two of our players were on one of their mids who passes off to a player that Hearfield should have been covering.  The player was able to play a ball into the middle with no pressure on him at all while Hearfield lazily jogged in his general direction.

That is poor and should never happen.

EDIT: Add to that Hearfield's foul on Cassio.  Could have been sent off.  Such stupidity.  Cassio had just fouled (tackled probably a better word as we got a goalkick) him but there was not much in that previous challenge at all.

Comments like this I don't understand at all and that isn't due to poor spelling.  The ball wasn't going particularly fast, it didn't appear to curve, it wasn't very high, and it wasn't that far away from Reddy.  So it begs the question, why did he not move?

Why are we sacking the whole team when we just had 15 minutes of dominance and they hit us on the break with a long shot?

Does this really need an answer?

Even the commentators called it the Miss of the Season from Tim Brown.

Yeah that annoyed me as well. Reddy might have thought that the nature and direction of the ball was going to miss the post. He was of course wrong and should have accounted for margin of error.

As for Ifill, I think the man is carrying some niggly injuries, not helped by the fact he cops poor tackles every week.

And what's was with the referee tonight, his cards were glued in his pocket or something?

Hearfield was lucky not to be off in the first 5 minutes, and there were plenty of yellows that should have been given in that match.
A few more yellows and the game would have flowed a hell of a lot better.

The ball was not screaming, and it dipped subject to gravity, there was nothing extraordinary about the dip.  Goalkeepers understand gravity makes a ball descend and as such I consider that call irrelevant.

I was tuned in to the Phoenix vs Adelaide.

And you?

It was not screaming, it lost pace and was within Reddy's reach if he decided to go for it. You can't say that that the dipping took the ball out of Reddy's reach because it didn't. All I could say is that it was deceptive and bluffing in the path it took. Don't get me wrong, it was a good shot, but hardly the cracking that people make it out to be as a good number of keepers could have attempt and pull a decent save. However a goal is a goal and I don't in anyway suggest that Reddy is incompetent, it was just an unusual shot.AllWhitebelievr2009-12-19 01:12:39

AllWhitebelievr, who is the girl in your dp?  She's gorgeous.

If Crowther was on I doubt he'd have performed better (on the contrary I suspect I'd be in hospital suffering from some heart complication) but I think he'd have easily smothered that shot.  He is taller but still, Reddy should have got it.

Strange though, a few minutes afterwards Reddy was at full stretch and managed to tip just wide a strange chip by Cristiano (I think) that was headed for the inside of the post.
