Right now it's only 17c here. Not exactly tropical.

These pussys are a lot better than previous versions and our hardest game yet by far. Will test our sometimes fragile defence. Not sure if they will test the goal keeper much. I hope not.
Ifill and Brown 2-1

I want to see Daniel starting for this, I think Leo has not be as spectacular as he could of been. I also want to see Toto coming on and really showing us what he can do, I just don't know what to think of him yet, hopefully have a better view this friday. I need new glasses, can barely see whats going on down north end of RoF.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

I really want to see Toto and Daniel on the field together, with some decent time to work some magic.

I'd be happy to have Troy watching from the stands to give Toto and Daniel time to attack, even if that means bringing Leo and Ifill off, leaving Big Mac and Greenacre up front.

Ifill had an average game by his own standards last week. If he starts walking around in Brisbane, give him a rest for the next game, and run Daniel and Toto on.

Crazy talk I know... but we need to get all our players game time, we can't wait until Leo or Ifill are crocked, then hope for miracles from the bench.

17c is tropical for Wellington.

It's a match where we will go in as underdogs - it's a real test for us because it has to be said - we don't travel well - and have only ever got one point in Brisbane out of a possible 15.

But I have faith in this season's Phoenix team.

Brisbane, as good as they have been in the first two games, have only been able to score once. If we scramble well we'll do nicely.

Not to concerned if we don't this as it's the first away game of the season.  Will be more concerned if we don't win any away games. Product2010-08-26 15:47:31

its amazing at the confidence we have grown to have at home, but as soon as the away game comes we all look like doom merchants. i agree we are not likely to get the win, but i think we can get the draw, we have a good team, it will be interesting to see how we go at the game

I'd actually like to see Pavlovic given about 20 minutes to show us what he can do.

Agree, he was stand out against Boca and will be right in the mix if Big Mac or Greenacre get injured/suspended.

I think our midfield does need a bit of variation so Toto getting plenty of time centrally is key, start with the same XI but at some point switch to something like:

                   Paston

              Sigs      Dura
Muscat                          Lochhead

             Lia    Brown

                 Toto

     Ifill                     Daniel
             Greenacre

Marius, If you read Oska's post agian I believe he says he'd have the same starting line up but he'd revert to his named formation later in the game.

If we need to chnage things up because it isn't going our way or if we're cruising and Ricki is comfortable rearranging our attack a little. Sooner or later Toto is going to need to be given a chance in that central attacking role, playing Lia/Muscat and Brown in behind him is probably the best way of giving him the freedom to play that #10 role. the three other midfielders/forwards are Ifill and two of (at this stage) Greenacre, Bertos, MacAllister, Daniel and possibly Hearfield/Pavlovic.

I had a dream about this game last night. In the 1st half Roar sneakily changed their shirts from orange to blue and Norm Sekalovski ran from out of a driveway attached to the stadium and scored to give them a 1-0 lead.

In the 2nd half the Nix rounded the top marker well behind but caught a good breeze to almost catch them on the downward leg to Days Bay; then during the changeover to mountain bikes a huge argument erupted when the Roar coach again wanted to change their shirts to white but Ricki started yelling that only NZers could wear all white shirts. Referee Ben Williams was smiling like a Cheshire cat and had his arm round everyone trying to calm them down but eventually called the game off.

Odds must be pretty good on this one - I might chuck a lazy tenner on it just in case.

Wait. Toto starting? Why?
He was rubbish again last week, and in no way a standout against Boca. Gives the ball away everytime he touches it. Certainly done nothing to deserve a start.

Allegedly

Speaking of brisbane, heading there for the U2 concert in Dec. Might head down to Surfers to watch the Boys play on the 11that Sun Corp. Any others be at that game?

I know its a ways off....

By way of clarification the bold bit was my bit..I wasnt advcoating Toto start..just havent acquired quote skills yet...and neither was Osaka to be fair to him as well...

Well, Oska's formation is only 2 subs from what started last weekend. Pav would, hypothetically speaking, be still on the bench and if here were to come on would replace Greenacre.Bullion2010-08-27 14:46:12

Greenacre on his own up front in the 2nd half eh. Mayyyybe. Depending on who's playing better I'd leave Mac on personally.

Can't get livestreaming from China so I hope someone's going to be providing lovely verbose commentary on this thread come game time!

this'll be tough - i didn't see the game but the match report from the bisbane sydney game says "With almost the entire match played on the fringes of the Sky Blues' 18-yard box, Brisbane were relentless, but could not find a second."
Not often you'd say that about Sydney - and it was their two strikers missing, not the midfield or defensive starters.

I think I'm happy to get anything out of this game given how vulnerable our defense can be.

I don't see Ricki changing much:

Paston
Muscat   Sig   Dura   Lochhead
Lia
Ifill            Brown          Leo
Greenacre
BigMac

Pav
Toto
Daniel
Vuko

Lia to drop into the back four if we have a problem there, without Hearfield as cover

Given they are playing at ten o'clock at night i'm hoping he'll run all three non-goal keeping subs so the only question is if that's conservative - Daniel/Toto for Ifill/Leo and Pav for Mac, or does he give Toto some time central
apart from the would-be-good-to-see-how-that-went- attacking-mid-we've-always-wanted argument maybe a game based case for that if brown and Lia spend the night chasing shadows - toto looked pretty quick in the game time he's had v U20 and the bit we saw vs Bocca, CCM
so just maybe toto gets a run for Brown or Lia late
Otherwise i reckon we'll only see him central if we have an injury to Brown, Lia or Greenacre
taking off Mac to play Toto central just doesn't do it for me but, hey, maybe it'd work with three playing in front and two middies behind 4-2-1-3 reverting to 442ish on D
but then, it seems ricki is keen to see Pav, so i think that'd be with him and Greeny up front ...

aaaargh argued myself into oblivion there lol

should be a good game tho', will really tell us something about the team
